Why is it $59.99 to preorder on Direct 2 Drive? New PC games are $49.99 unless you're activision who senselessly charge $10 more. I didn't think BioWare would buy into this sham. It'll just lead more people to pirate, honestly.

The DDE of ME2 was 60 on Steam pre-order, as I recall. It's too early to tell, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went that ridiculous "signature edition" route and charged 60 for the standard copy of ME3, as well.

true, it sucks.

Activison isn't the only company to sell PC games for 60 bucks.

These games

MoH (EA), ACII(+BH) & SSC (Ubisoft, with addition of the screw-the-paying-costumers DRM)

cost 60 bucks as well.

there was an xkcd comic where the character waited a couple of years after a game came out to buy it, because 1. it would be cheaper, 2. it would mean his computer was probably powerful enough for it.

you dont need to go that far, but remember how ME2s price was 50 at launch and now its 10 dollars cuz of a steam sale? im guessing if you can hold off for like 6 months after it comes out, you can get it for mad cheap.

and thats not to mention random sales on d2d/steam/stores, which can happen like 1 month after the game comes out. the bottom line is that unless you buy the game the day it comes out, you probably wont have to pay 60 bucks for it. and 60 bucks IS kind of stupid.

Consider yourselves lucky, in Australialand I had to pay 129.99 for the CE of Mass Effect 2, which was ~110 USD by the exchange rates at the time.

Man, wow. This is Mass Effect 3. Even at 200$ i'd buy it. I bought Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 60$ 2 months before Call Of Doody : Black ****s gets out... c'mon. -.-

Using the fact that they raise the price $10 is not an excuse to pirate the game.

People will use it to justify it, but it is not a legitimate argument.Pirating the game gives companies all the more reason to ignore the PC version entirely. (or at least slim down what makes a PC version good.....looks at Dragon Age 2....)

you know. don't complain about the price. it won't be never dropped for new game. if you want cheaper, you have to wait for more than 8 months to drop the price. game is all labor job (plus creation idea, and so on developers put). you have to appreciate what they do. without them, you can't even play enjoy games forever. show your support rather than complain. $60 is not much for games nowadays. dollar value has been dropped continually. everyday spending $100 is very easy. well, you don't make money, then you don't understand. get over it.

PS) I bought lots of new games this year. I guess they are about 40 games. all 2010 new games. you have any idea how much that cost? of course, I bought them because I could afford to do. now, I am waiting for my preorder games. Dead Space 2, Assassin's Creed brotherhood PC version, Dragon age 2, Crysis 2. these games I all preordered. do you think I am crazy? NO. it depends on how you are interested in game or something else. it's investment. for myself.

I'd love to, but you know how the internet works. There is no POSSIBLE way for anyone who uses the internet for 2-3 hours a day and is a gamer to avoid ME3 spoilers. I gotta have it on release day.

This is what being a fanboy is all about. Just because you enjoy something does NOT mean you should be okay with being terribly gouged.

I pay $49.99 for all my premium PC titles. I make good money, and live comfortably but that doesn't make nonsensical price gouging fine. Why was ME2 $49.99 and this $59.99? Makes absolutely no sense.

It's just going to lead to less sales and more pirates. Trust me.

since Q3 2010, gaming companies raised the price which is equal to console game price tag in order to make more profit. plus, they also increase quality as well. so don't expect some new games in 2011 will be still $49.99.

Supply and demand. If you were running a company, would you charge ten dollars less if you knew your customers would pay the additional ten dollars?

It's 10 friggin dollars. Why would any sane person deprive themselves ME3 just to make an idiotic point?

You're missing the point. The normal price for a PC game on new release is 50 dollars. Console games are 60, they charge more because the console owners (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) Charge a 10 dollar royalty on the games they sell on their platforms (which raises the price). EA charging 60 for ME PC edition is raising the price without a good reason, the IP is already highly profitable, and they're raising the prices just because they can (i.e. it's a douchey thing to do).

It's 10 friggin dollars. Why would any sane person deprive themselves ME3 just to make an idiotic point?

Doubtful, but they might put off buying it until it comes down in price or pirate it and then buy it when it's cheap.

I do love Mass Effect, but unless it's a CE there's absolutely no way I'm forking out $60 for the PC version. I'll pay $60 for TESV on PC before I'll pay $60 for a standard version of ME3.

Better get ready to if DA2 is any indication of their future pricing policy.

I wouldn't pay $50 for DA2, much less $60. But that's just me, of course. :P

Pity us poor aussies who get absolutely raped by our distributors. What costs you $60 will end up costing us $110 or more.

I'm counting on amazon.co.uk to made one of their usual great deal for players.

DA2 (PC) for exemple is at only 25£ brand new (signature edition of cause).

With shippment, it will cost me around 33€

At that price piracy is NO excuse.

I hope they will try to offer the best price for new copy of ME3 as well.

I'm sure a lot of people are with you on that, actually, lol...

However, I wanted to buy it simply because it's a Bioware title and I'm sure I could find something worthwhile in it. Unfortunately, they went ahead with some awful initiative to only offer the CE to people willing to make an uninformed purchase (2 months before release, thus bypassing proper reviews), and if you don't go for that nonsense, they still end up charging you the CE price regardless. It seems they were able to kill two birds with one stone, heh, get more money, get more pre-orders and screw the consumer.

As a matter of fact, Bioware's really sliding down the list in terms of companies I rate. They've been involved in a lot of distasteful sh*t since parterning with EA.

This.

It really is too soon now; there is no point in pre-ordering so early and without any details on anything. I'm not pre-ordering my copy until at least April or so. No hurry.

If the game has decent content and appears finished 60 bucks is fine. But I think that will not be the case. There will probably be doors that can only be unlocked with DLC or signature edition "extra" content. And there will probably be alot of empty space in the squad selection screen, even when you are through the whole game already ("did I miss something?"), which is a huge turn off. I just hate it when the finished game was so obviously taken apart to make more profit. When I play a game I don't want crap like that take me out of the experience.

I am willing to pay for quality, but sorry Mass Effect 2 full of bugs and is still a lot not fixed. For bugs and errors I do not want to pay good money. This is honestly. I do not want to pay for a stripped-down game. Must be quality and I'll pay.
