Ill start with the problem:

I've installed ME1 (PC physical disc)  after a long absence, then when I start the game, it loads for approx. 1 min-3mins then:

General protection fault!

I have the game patched to 1.02
I've looked through the forums, and there have been problems like this but I do not know which graphics driver I need

System Details:

Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3

Processor Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
3582MB RAM

ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series 
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.7101

The greatest majority of GPF problems arose from Geforce drivers, not Radeons', so it's not as difficult to swap to newer drivers (10.12 is the current one), and get away from that error.

Yeah a friend told me as i was posting it ill try the latest driver and see ho that goes

I tried again but I still got the same error

Nevermind I think it might be a problem with my audio driver

EDIT:

Tried it in windowed mode, worked fine. Thanks for the help.
