 I just got a new quad core pc - and... practically EVERYTHING works great: toolset - game the works! Well, all except for SoZ.. the beginning of the game on the boat streaming along - the water covers the top deck - so considering all is good except that, does anyone know of this particular issue - and how to remedy it?
:innocent:

First I ever heard of that... Sure it's not a missing texture on the boat making the water appear to be on the deck? And maybe, just maybe, you need to reinstall some video drivers with that new Win7 Beastie?

Other than that, it's a stumper.

I think in the story the boat is about to sink anyway, yours is just sinking faster than normal that's all.

is that windows 7 64-bit?

When I switched to a quad-core, it was the most beautiful thing ever.

@M. Rieder

It is indeed very awesome - yes it is 64bit

@PJ156

Of course - my new pc is so fast that it sees the future...

@DNO

I fiddled with the video settings in game but the buggy water simply appeared to reflect etc... I will try the driver thing as well.

No toolset problems either? Hmmm..... now I'm getting tempted to make the switch. Have you noticed an improvement in toolset performance?

Driver would be your best bet. I think I remember something like this a few months back, and players had to revert back to a previous nvidia driver. Turned out they had all just updated and the new driver didn't like something.

With more cores and faster to boot, plus the ability to go up to 3 gb of ram on any program running, W7-64 with an i7 is a gargantuan leap forward for using the toolset.

Yep, I downloaded the latest driver for my 7600 video card and the textures are all good now. Apparently, it wasn't only SoZ that had things a bit scrambled - one of my old save games from the OC had texture problems too. But its all good now.

@M. Rieder

Performance is extremely better - BUT I just realized that my Win 7 is installed as 32bit - so I am not sure how that effects performance overall or if that is why the transition to Win 7 from XP went so smoothly.

Just a question though... My PC is quad Core - doesn't that mean that in 32 bit the Quad isn't fully exploited? or does win 7 / 32 bit manage the multi core environment fully? You see, I had this put together by a PC shop and I did mention that I was concerned about compatibility with programs such as NWN2 TS - maybe they misunderstood me, or it doesn't really matter. EIther way performance and render quality for the TS and the Game is truly top notch. All the default settings for game graphics are set one or two notches higher than on my old XP machine.

That might be handled natively in the OS kernel, Morbane. Management of your cores, I mean. The toolset was only designed to run in two cores, but if there is software or firmware that can leverage more than two cores for a "legacy" application, then I suppose it would utilize them, irrespective of the bit depth of the OS. You could, concievably run an 8Bit OS and still run all four cores (or 8 or 12 or 16 or 128, etc.) as long as the OS was written to handle it. The depth of the OS determines how much data can be shoved down the pipes, but the cores are handled independant of the data flow size. Each core is it's own complete processing unit.

I'm going to have to find a really cheap deal to upgrade to Win7 so I can add more RAM, which is a serious issue when using the toolset and I hate to say it, but I *only* have 2G RAM right now and I could use more, but until I get a higher level OS than XP, adding it doesn't really do that much for me.

Hope that kind of answers your question regarding core useage.

Thanks dno. The reason I was asking about core usage; used and unused, is from a while back at another pc shop (before I moved 2 months ago) I asked the kind would be builders of a new dual core machine about win 7 compatability vs xp performance, again in regards to NWN2 TS. The bloke said that xp32 would not utilise the full dual core processing potential, ie using only 1 core at any time. So my curiosity led me here.

So - yes, dno - that does mostly answer my question.
