No lightsabers please.. or any melee weapons at all... I'm happy with a riffle-butt.

I would have to go with "no" for a dedicated melee weapon.

The only melee weapon I want in ME3 is Shepard's fist, like originally promised for ME2 (but was unfortunately removed).

And then after the initial punch, if the enemy is staggered enough, button prompts for other melee attacks should come up, Resident Evil style. Either that, or each weapon should have individual melee animations again, like in ME1. Every time I did melee in ME1, I switched to the pistol because I hate rifle butting. It looks so lame.

I understand - chop in parts husks. BUT! No - because Mass Effect is not Halo or Star Wars.

Between this and the FPS thread, why do people go the offensive and throw in Halo whenever someone mentions some sort of element from the game?? It's not like Halo invented the FPS genre or the energy swords.

I would say no as a weapon to just pull out and chop with, that'd be useless since it's next-to-impossible to get close to enemies without being gunned down on any difficulty besides Casual.

However I would like something that can get you out of the situation when about 8 husks surrond you (I'm looking at you, room in the Derelict Reaper with the Dragon's Tooth) before you'll lazily beaten to death. Although that'd be better as an on-the-spot explosion type power...

ME is a guns world. There's no real reason for swords for anything other than ceremony/showing off since guns can still be fired at close range.

Maybe a short Turian fencing mini-game would be fun.

My vanguard on insanity disagrees with you about the difficulty of getting close, but he still agrees that there should be no lightsabers.

Not really.  I've been doing melee on large mechs and bosses all throughout my current playthrough of ME2, and I'm playing on Insanity.

when you got 4-5 guns strapped to you, you would never use and melee weapon. Just having it is kind of silly really. Ask anybody in the military how many times they put their gun away and decided to use thier knife instead.

Plus Halos energy sword was super dumb, and i hate that game.

Mass Effect is ALMOST the only sci-fi genre series i like.

I think you meant,

Let Halo be Star Wars and Mass Effect be Mass Effect.
