Those awful, awful shooter fans you're discussing in several other threads... they're bound to want energy swords in ME3.
Hilarious.
Right?

*sarcastic tone* Suuuuure, and while we're at it, let's add more "force like" abilities for each class, change Shep and crew's armor into Jedi Robes. Change the Reapers into a giant version of Darth Sidious. Turn Joker into Han Solo and EDI into Chewbacca. Turn the Normandy into the Millenium Falcon and the Citidel into the Death Star and then finally change the title from "Mass Effect" to Star Wars v2.0?
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....I think not. Energy Swords= No Go.

Shotguns are used for close quarters, therefore melee weapons will NEVER be a part of the Mass Effect universe since there is absolutely no need nor would the idea be able to fit into the whole scene. Debate closed.
My Vanguard and Soldier Sheps use a lot of melee attacks in between shotgun blasts when I'm not using the Scimitar (and even then, while Heightened Adrenaline is up I do Shot > Melee > Shot), so melee definitely IS a big part of my play style. For instance, the animated CQC parts of the fight against the Shadow Broker? I like to imagine my Shepard basically does that stuff in betwen shots all the time.
This is why all of my ideas for melee weapons like a molecular knife or knuckle duster are one-handed weapons. I'm not suggesting it be something you use INSTEAD OF a gun, but something you use in SUPPORT of your guns.
Btw, shame on those of you not reading the ongoing discussion and simply saying "hurr NO derp."

Shotguns are a part of our universe too but people go so far as to put bayonets on them. A CQC weapon with a knife at the end of it seems kinda redundant but it works in tight situations.

Shepard: NO!!!! You can't be my father.
No, just no energy swords please. Then again... melee weapons seems kind of cool from a warhammer 40k perspective.

If they did that we might as well start calling our Femsheps Bastilla.
No, while bastila and femshep have the same voice actor you could play as a female Revan in KotOR without becoming Bastila.

No. I'm sorry but it would just be too obvious that the me universe was copying halo/starwars. I mean come on, we know mass effect is better than both anyway-opinion.
Mass Effect has the potential to be better than Star Wars but it has a looooooong way to go in order to get there. A good first step to take in order to improve would be to stop being one dimensional. There are no real "bad guys" for the player to align with or even simpathize with. The reapers are just pure iredeemable evil that not even bad guys would want to allign with. At the end of the day there is no morally complex debate about what side you're on and you are forced in the shoes of the hero without any choice about it. What made Star Wars successful were iconic and memorable villains that people could even relate to on some level and the villains were always open to recruitment.
I don't want to choose wether I yell, punch or speak softly in order to achieve a pre-determined goal. I want the option to choose how to deal with things. In the choice department BioWare needs to go learn at the feet of Obsidian and perhaps they can teach Obsidian how to better iron out bugs and glitches.

well.. there are those who always want to deny the inevitable because they are afraid to loose what they have.
Well... there are those who always want to control the relief effort in a selfish attempt to be (p)ricks and so after the disaster they are in charge.
well... there are those who are just too damn afraid of public reprisal that support those who fight from the background while publicly they deny all involvement and even go as far as critizing those who actually do something.
well....there is more I could say but u get the ide a:P
