I've always played as a default male Soldier (in ME1 and 2) as I wasn't interested in Biotics (I couldn't get through the prologue with a Adept in ME) but I recently saw a gameplay video of a Vanguard and it looked extremely fun. So I fired up a new game on Hardcore using a female Shepard and holy sh!t, it's aweesome. I usually don't replay RPGs (esp. with Bioware)  as I get completely immersed the first time through because of the rich story, characters etc. and I already "live" the moments, but this seems like a totally different character than the male Shepard. Also, is it just me or the voice actor for the female Shepard is a LOT better??

Anyways, I'm actually thinking of playing ME1 over again with this build and then importing it into ME2, making the femshep my "definitive" Shepard.

Those of you who haven't had the chance to try this combo, please do so. ;)

Dude, I could have written the exact same thing myself. :-))

I've actually gone and made that build thru ME1 and she's now my canon Shepard, and the only one who's completed LotSB.

If you had fun on hardcore, it's even better on insanity.

Vanguards are indeed the best thing since sliced bread.

Am I the only one having trouble with vanguard? :crying:

The targeting assistance completely fails on my computer. So I can rarely launch a charge and most biotic ability's can't be aimed properly!

I really want to replay ME1 again, but it just seems like a hassle at this point. I mean, managing and changing equipment for every party member every 2 seconds and then reducing everything to Omni-gel, and then there's the Mako....meh. I don't know. :(

Vanguard in ME 2 and vanguard in ME 2 are practically two different classes, so I wouldn't stress replaying 1 if you're hooked on the ME 2 vanguard experience.

yeah, the female shepard VA does a better job. The male one isn't bad by any means, but it's not outstanding.

If you're having some problems, you can game the system a bit by using the tactical power screen to pause the action and line up a clean shot or target a power. Actually, I suppose it's really not gaming the system since that's the whole reason it's there.  And charge will fail to execute properly if you're targeting an NPC that can't be reached on foot normally, such as one perched on an inaccessible ledge sniping or shooting rockets at you. Finally, there is one level where charge is notoriously buggy or at least tricky to use as you're accustomed to--that you will just have to grit your teeth and learn to cope.

I know that charge doesn't work on people thats out of reach (on foot). But in my case, it simply refuse to target people out in the open a few meters away and use charge. Very annoying.

Alright, so I just finished playing the first one and I've been blown away just like the very first time I played it 2 years ago. I thought it'd seem outdated and wouldn't age as well after playing ME2 but the experience was just as awe-some and captivating as the first time.

And femshep IS the definitive Shepard, at least for me....and I'm a guy!

My main Shep is a female, vanguard, renegade. I agree 100%. And yes, the VA (Jennifer Hale) does an amazing job, in both games.

Yeah, I have a Shepard like this too (though, she isn't pure Renegade) and it's awesome.

I like renegade vanguards, but I prefer the male version myself. And yes, renegade Vanguard Shepard is badass personified.

I have a female Vanguard and she's my canon and my fav of all the classes. She's a Paragade, however. Like sinosleep said the vanguard class is very different in ME1. I just replayed ME1 the other day as well. Forgot how much fun the Vanguard was in ME1, though different.

I think Vanguard is fun in ME1 with the sniper as the bonus power....then you are deadly at every range.

But the class is just awesome in ME2...I finally created a FemShep I like for it and now I'm going through ME2 the first time as a Vanguard...I love it.

Yeah, my Shepard is a lot more complex than that. This is what I like about the ME morality system, my renegade meter was full but my paragon meter was like half-way.....and I saved the council in the end.

I actually prefer the male shep VA, but I seem to be in the minority on that. Especially for renegade choices, I don't think she pulls renegade off very well. To me she sounds upset/hurt not angry/mean. And actually I like not hearing too much emotion in normal conversation, it seems more normal to me.

But Vanguards are bad ass, though adepts are still my favorite.

Nah, you're not in the minority. Hale supporters just tend to be louder and declare their love everywhere instead of just in topics that address voice acting.

I'm a huge Hale supporter, have been ever since kotor, and her work is as outstanding in ME2. Still beauty is in the eye of the beholder and though I still like her performance over Meer's I don't think of it so much as "better" but just different given how the two approached the character.

Vanguards put the effect in Mass Effect, what more can you say? =D

If the statistics are to be believed, Sheploo beats Femshep out by a 8:2 ratio. Personally, I believe that is only for your initialy file and the ratio is closer overall as people replay and try both genders. I do think the hatred for Meet is completely overblown. Both him and Hale have moments were they are excellent and completely flat. For example, Hale shines during Tali/Legion conflict and Meer renegade delivery during the conclusion of Tali's loyalty mission is probably one of the best performances in the game.

On topic. Vanguard is definitely one of the most highly addictive classes in the game. It adheres to CQC but offers even more direct brutality. There are drawback, primarily the steep learning curve as you have to pick your charges carefully. I highly recommend you give Infiltrator a run after as well TC. The sickening destruction of Widow head shots while enemies fumble around as you cloak is awesome.

I also add to being a male gamer preferring to play Femshep. Usually always play female in games. For whatever reason I can create and roleplay women better than men. Go figure.

hahaha... vanguard class is fun. first time when I played the game as this class, I thought my shepard was superman. because he could fly (charge) whenever he wants. but he couldn't. ovbiously there is some distance limit you can't charge. well, I don't need to explain. you all already knew.

Maleshep + Vanguard + Paragade = My formula. I'm a lot like Garrus, I believe in ironic deaths. I'll give mercy when I see fit, but I'm also willing to shoot you. A Punch to the face is also likely.
