How about a no crafting run? I use lesser health and lesser mana potions all the time so this should be a good challenge for me. I'll be using a S&S Dwarf Noble Gal because I haven't done that before. I'll be starting off on Normal difficulty. What do you think?
Yes, it's the No Crafting Challenge!

This is how I started the game, so it is not that difficult. I only added crafting later to see what I was missing.

Never crafted anything on any playthrough - it's a waste of time.

My party will be: Me, Sten, Leliana, and Morrigan.
I just realized that the first parts of the game were meant to be played without crafting but I still think Lothering will be interesting without potions.

I usually stock up on poultices as I collect them from dungeon loot and let my mage companions handle healing. It's not too hard to get through the game without crafting, though there are some quests that require you to craft an item to heal someone, or ask for items that you may not have had access to at that point without crafting.
As long as you don't ignore defense when building your characters, you shouldn't have too much trouble after Korcari Wilds/Tower of Ishal.

I couldn't beat the Ogre in the Tower of Ishal so I hid behind the barrels.
The first part of the game was easy until I hit the guy on the bridge then I used up a bunch of potions.

Lothering was easy on Normal until the very end where I fought an elite and used four lesser health poultices. I have 5 lesser poultices left and 6 regular health poultices.
I plan on taking Burning Man first in the fade after a couple of random encounters and the Circle tower.

What guy on the bridge?
The main part in Korcari Wilds that gives me trouble is that emisarry who likes to hide past the traps. Annoying s.o.b. Even if I try using stealth as a rogue to disarm the traps, I always get detected.
When I fight the ogre in the tower of ishal, I usually have Alistair charge in, and have him use a taunt soon after. I'll also have the mage use horror/paralyze (whichever one he has) on the ogre. If you happen to be playing as a rogue, go behind the ogre and use backstabs, and if your tank gets grabbed, use dirty fighting to free them. I've fought that ogre so many times that I usually don't have to use more than one poultice, if that.
When fighting that elite bandit in Lothering, try to lure them away from the other bandits. Tell your party to "hold" around the corner, then have someone get just close to get their attention and when that happens, run back to your party and disable hold so they can move freely. This encounter is toughest when the bandit elite has backup, if multiple party members are getting hit and everyone is using up poultices, and/or you aren't having your party members attacking the same target. If everyone is focused on the elite, then they shouldn't last long.
If you happen to be playing as a mage, these early fights should be much easier, since you'll have someone with access to heal, regenerate, winter's grasp, force field, possibly cone of cold, etc.

That's about my attitude, but more acurately I would say "Crafting is great for those that like it, but for the rest of us skills like coercion, combat training, surival and tactics are a much better investment."

On the possessed Templar and the desire demon where you get the templar armor, I gave Sten a Rock salve and double teamed whoever Sten targeted. It seemed to work okay. In the next room the blood mage blew up his own men so it was cleared easily, lucky huh.
Defeated Uldred and am off to kill Conner..

Yeah, I did the Elves. I ran out of red potions but was able to buy 6 at Varathorn's afterwards.
Onto Orzammar.

I think you'll do fine. I've never crafted anything at all so it is definitely doable.

I always enjoy Jarvia. For me it's a mixture of pure luck and a bunch of poultices. This was no exception. I had 5 lesser, 1 regular, and 3 greater poultices and I used them all up. In fact it was a close thing getting through. I tried quite a few times but couldn't win then set on the strategy of controlling Sten and got through. Ha ha whew..

In none of my playthroughs have I ever crafted more then 3 lesser potions for the lothering quest.
I do like to craft traps for the trap quest.

The Corrupted Spidar Queen was tough. I used up a bunch of poutices again. Good thing I had Morrigan and her lightning spell. That was useful.
Judging by that I expect the Broodmother to be nearly impossible so just assume I turned down the difficulty to easy unless I say differently. I also assume I'll have to turn it down on the rotating faces part too.

Crafting is a pain in the rear anyway (especially runecrafting in Awakenings). Gonna avoid it as much as possible in future run throughs. I barely use health/stamina pots- in long fights, the lyrium ones come in handy, but the ones found as loot are enough.
Never use traps.

Got Caridin the first try on Normal. He's not as fun as Branka but I got the Golem army.

I dueled Sten at Haven. I didn't know you could convince him to not fight with -3 approval. I thought he would whup me but I defeated him using one poultice.
The high dragon is always fun. I had to turn down the difficulty to easy and it was still tough. He was grabbing and stuff, but I got lucky pretty quickly so it didn't take too long.
It was almost sacrilegious taking Sten to the Urn. Morrigan was pretty bad too.

Sir Cauthrien always captures me. I forgot to take Alistair to save the queen so I escaped by myself. Yay for easy mode.
Next is the Alienage, dueling Loghain, and the Archdemon.
