Hi fellers, I'm new to Dragon Age and am getting my game on Tuesday.  I thought I would propose this question to the community has I cannot decide, even after reading up on both classes.

Would a Warrior or Rogue class be best suited for an "Aragon" (Lord of the Rings) type character?  An "Aragon", in my opinoin, being a highy dextisious frontline fighter.  He is the heroic figuer with a big sword and likes to get up close and personal, while at the same time he i agile, wears medium armor and is good with a bow.  His specializations would be closest to a Champion and a Ranger.  Intially I thought a beefted up Rogue, But all the info on rogues say they are not frontline fighters, which is not an "Aragon".  But is a Warrior to much of a tank?

I thought I would see what the commuity thinks as every RPG I ask it to myself and for Dragon Age I cannot come to a conclusion.

Well, rangers summon animals which Aragorn can't. Rogues get more skill points, which you could use to get Survival as a fitting choice, but overall I think a warrior would be a better choice, especially since a rogues' fighting style always has an air of the opportunist, dirty-fighting thug even if you don't use poison. Warriors don't have to tank, though IMO it's quite fun. The problem is that I'm not sure any of the fighting styles as they are really suit Aragorn especially if you're going for the "movie" version, because two-handed weapons feel extremely slow and ponderous.

I just though I would put the question out there. Personally I will be playing a character much like myself and not a perfect being as I am not. Now I'm big and play alot of sport so I think a warrior tank with a two-handed sword. I also plan not to have a set way my character acts and will be making each as close as I would in real life.

I still like to think what would be the perfect warrior though and the "Aragon" is in my opinion the most well rounded warrior going. I always find it interesting with each RPG if you can create the "Aragon" character.

Deffinately warrior! Warrior Champion is ideal as an 'aragorn' character.

Rogues are masters of dirty fighting. They paralyze their enemies and are most effective when considered a low threat. A rogue that is mistaken for a coward is possibly the most dangerous individual on the battlefield, being able to sneak around any enemy unnoticed and slip their small blade(s) into key point in a persons back. More brave and bold rogues are a lesser threat, but they mostly have a more to their blades then you can see. Most likely coated in a horrific poison, it's likely you will survive the attack, but you wont survive the night.

Warriors can be anything from careful tactical geniouses, to a rampaging blood thirsty killing machine who thrives in only half sanity. They can be strong supportive units, or, as is most common, the very strongest person on the battlefield. Most warriors choose to dive headlong into what others would consider suicidal situations, and somehow despite horrific injuries, survive. A trained warrior with a broadaxe is just as dangerous as a trained warrior with a sword and a shield.

I'd say an aragorn type is deffinately warrior.

I think a duelist/bar build would be more of an Aragorn build. Skilled with a sword and inspires those around him to fight harder. He is not big and bulky strong, I see Aragorn more dex and cun based.

Depends on what Aragon you want to be.  In the novels Aragon was a ranger, but in the movies he was a warrior.

"Ranger" has very different meanings in different settings though. In DA all it does it let you summon animals which Aragorn doesn't do. Tracking is handled with Survival. And because of the whole dirty fighting versus honest hand-to-hand I do see Aragorn more as a warrior. Champion would fit indeed. Plus, Anduril looks like hand-and-a-half sword or two-hander in the movies while in the books I think it's described as being used with a shield -- either way, it's not a fighting style a rogue would have access to.
