I finally finished making my face, saved it, and then closed the toolset because i had other things to do. Now that I am back to continue working on this i looked at the part of the tutorial that says how to get the face into your game and it looks as if you need to have the face file opened in the toolset. I attempted to open it in the toolset and it wouldnt work with an error message that said the file path was not a valid win32 application. How do i fix this?

edit: wow i am stupid. I tried doing file -> open from inside the toolset and now it works. before i had right clicked on the file and clicked open with.

When I use a replacement of my character with a new face (.mor file in the overriding directory) the meshes of my character get distorted (all mess up) when shifting shapes in the fade. Somebody knows how to fix this, please?

Just another question to add to the lot. I appologize now, I did try to go to the wiki but I cant seem to get any of the pages to load. After about 2 mind numbing hours of trying to read short how to posts on topics that probably explain exactly what I need to do but have no idea I figured maybe I would ask for help instead of fretting over the thought that perhaps I didnt look hard enough, or use google right...maybe I didnt...Posted Image

But I digress...I wanted to start making my own eye textures to go along with my custom head morphs. So I got myself a .dds file to edit, opened it up in Photoshop (I have the Nvidia dds Reader). I stuck with convert images to 8 bits. was that ok? When working with this .dds file did I want to check load with its MIP maps? I imagine if you know what I am talking about you know what it looks like when it opens the file. So that brings me to, if I am to load the file with the MIP maps, should I be editing each of the 4 versions? OR, can I just load one 8-bit version and when I save it save my own MIP maps with it? (and saving it is a whole new bowl of noodles...)

So now I get this pretty eye texture, merge the layers flat, save my file first as a .psd, .tga then the .dds, a bunch of options come up under the dds editor, wasnt sure what I needed to input in here unfortunatly, I just left everything at the default and hit save..I imagine that was wrong.

From there I wasnt sure what to do either, I opened a new Material in the Toolset, inserted a new material library and then a new material object and made the material type eye, left the rest alone. I thought I read somewhere that you could use/load a .tga file so under the normal tab with enable normal map true I loaded up the .tga eye file I made, didnt touch anything else because I was unsure of whatever else there was then posted it to local...

Flipped over to my head Morph, clicked on my eye properties and.....completely lost the file, or at least when I go to look for it under my Head Morph Eye Texture Option it isnt there, even if I select 'All Diffuse Files'.

Now of course I am a complete moron, so from step one I am probably doing it all wrong, I cant get to the wiki's and if any of the 'how to's' on the forums here explain exactly what I need to do then it definatly eludes me..I've seen the retinting ones, for like armors and such..is that even the same to follow? and I am still lost at the whole Photoshop/Nvidia back to Toolset and finding the file again process...

I'd apprecite it if anyone could either explain this to me or point me in the right direction. Maybe if I can focus on the correct tutorials instead of 900 of the wrong ones I could get somewhere!

Thanks all, I apprecite it!

I've been trying to make a face for my PC using Velanna in Dracomies Dragon Age Redesign 6.8. I was able to move the face onto the PC, but the tattoo and makeup don't appear. Here is a picture of one of the three heads you can choose from.

Is there a way to transfer both the head and the tattoo/makeup to a PC character? Is there more editing involved than just placing the name of the .mor in your characters appearance?

To work with dds textures the easiest way is probably to use 'The gimp 2.6.4', which is a free program and has a plugin to open dds files directly. dds files have several formats but if you open the file, modify it and save it again the original form is preserved. For me is better to uncheck the load mipmaps box in the load options and when the file is done, to use the 'save as' which gives the option to generate the mipmaps again. It is very easy and works fine.

Thanks Khylian, apprecite it. I've never tried Gimp, been working amaturely in Photoshop for so long I never bothered. I've used the Nvidia Plug-in before just for a different game. I'll have to go look that up also and see how that is. Now, if I may ask a couple of more questions..

1. Once your done with your with edited .dds files for use in the Toolset, where are you storing them? I cant seem to find them unless I am in the Toolset itself and am navigating (IE: Trying to change the Eye Textures).

2. Also, in the Toolset and creating a new material for your new texture..I know how to get it started..IE: Insert new Material Library, Insert New Material Object..If that is what I am supposed to be doing of course, then make that Material type an Eye. What maps do I place where? Do I use the actual dds files in the say, CorneaNormal Property Tab or Normal Tab? and, should I be creating and placing any other type of maps to place in the other Property Tabs, like Diffuse or Tint?

Thanks so much I really do apprecite the help. I did try the Wiki Pages again, I cant get them to load..anyone else having this problem?

Hi um.. my character is fine, I just made his eyes too tiny and only noticed this a LONG time later. Now, I'm willing to learn how to use the toolset to change this, but is there a simpler way? I.e. can I open my character's face with the toolset, edit the eyes, and just save it back - or do I really have to make a whole new face?

Hi all, I am very new do DA, and have just tried doing the 1st morph of a char, works nice so far. I just wanted to find out if there is anyway to get more hairstiles in the toolset than just the normal ones, specially for elf males.

Thanks

If your using a morph, Yes, you can reopen it, edit it, and modify it, but if your using a stock in game head (ie one you made with the in game character editor) No, its unfortuneately not possible at the current time (who knows if theyll change that)

Personally I use the above, its been very helpful, you can see in my portrait there my character doesnt have "Stock" hair on him, and Ive edited his face and hair alot. Might look around for some new color files too, theyre always fun, expariment, the worst thing you can do is mess up a save game file, (so make a backup before you begin to tinker) but its almost as bad to have to software and let it go to waste! Hope this helps guys.

Yay for semi-reviving my own old dead thread >.<

So, I was using my boyfriends RavenNightsight account to do this, obviously. But then his email got hacked and I can't remember my password for my old account, so I made a new one.

I AM the same person.

Life has been busy, however, I do hope to throw myself back into the toolset (yes, I know I've said this before). I'm actually glad that I made these tutorials because it will help me remember how to do stuff myself since it's been so long since I played >.<

To anyone with questions, until I start posting here regularly again, unless someone else answers it, just assume I have no idea what you're talking about. *Gets bricked*

Quick question: is there a quick way to scroll between textures, colors and other stuff? Constantly clicking the next one in the explorer is kind of tedious.
