I installed a mod with more hairdos and would like to change the hair of my currently active character in the savegame... Is there a pdf format of the instructions given in this thread? The toolset is nightmarish to operate and I need a manual.

G.

If you haven't overriden the character with a .mor file the only way to change the hairstyle of a character created using the character creator (and not the toolset) is to use a hexeditor to edit the hex values in the most current save

the hex values are at SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR -> SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR -> SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH

If your not familiar with hex values it can be a little complicated and would probably be easier to try to recreate the character from scratch in the toolset.

I've started creating all my characters in the toolset so that I have a .mrh and .mor file available so as more and more character appearance mods come out I can easily modify any existing characters.

After browsing through about 20 some pages, I have noticed that, due to the fact that the search is down, people have been posting a lot of the same questions. I do not have the answer to all of these questions, but I will share what I have done so far. Mind you, it's not alot, but hopefully it will help some other people with their questions. Mind you, this is how I do it. My girlfriend and I will add to this as we figure things out/have the time.

Alright, first thing is first. Most people are saying they think their character's faces are hideous and wants to change them, but aren't sure how. Here's how my girlfriend found our how to do it...

Thanks!  You and your girlfriend allowed me to change my face something more befitting the only hope for Fereldon.

:wub:I think I love you. lol (joking) but seriously, I think I need to surf that site more. I've only been on it once or twice and that was when the toolset first came out.

Alright, so I've been promising to do this for awhile and I'm kicking myself for not doing it until now. However, being sick and having Christmas and such has kinda hindered my ability to do anything aside from lay in bed. I'm STILL sick as a matter of fact, however, it's not as bad as it was. However, being sick for about two and a half weeks has done havok on my body in general and it sucks. But, Life goes on and so must I.

ANYWAY! So, in this post I'm going to try to show you how to change the stats of your character, along with giving them more attribute, talent, and skill points AND how to change the amount of money you have and how big your inventory bag is. I'm pretty sure most of you have probably figured out how to do this already, but...for those that don't, here you go. ^_^

So, First thing's first (Mind you, this is done with my chracter Flaemaru on my laptop. Just replace the name with the name of your character)

Changing the stats (Strength, Dexterity, Willpower, Magic, Cunning, and Constitution) of your character

1. Play the game until you get a chance to save. What I normally do is right down the stats I had given my character while in the Character creator and after the initial cutscence in the beginning and what-have-you, I save.

2. Now, close your game (you saved it, right? lol) and open the toolset.

3. Go to the character's save file. I'll be honest, I cannot for the life of me remember where the menu starts, so this is going to start as though it was wanting to open from the desktop, so yeah. c
  Will look like this:
Posted Image

4. Now, go to SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR -> SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR -> SAVEGAME_CREATURE_STATS-> SAVEGAME_STATLIST
At this point, your screen should look like this:
Posted Image

5. Now, I don't know what all of the variables are for, however, I will share the what I do know. This should be right, however, as I said, I write mine down to be certain.
    For reference purposes:
Posted Image
Now. as you can see, those are Flaemaru's current stats.Take a look at this:
Posted Image
Notice anything familiar? lol
   Variable 0 is Strength.
    Variable 1 is Dexterity
    Variable 2 is Willpower
    Variable 3 is Magic
    Variable 4 is Cunning
    Variable 5 is Constitution
We're going to look at Strength. Currently, Flaemaru has an 18 in it. I'm going to change it to 50. Why? Because it's fun. lol To do so, I'm going to click in the box where the '18' is and type in 50. Same for everything else. Now, I'm sure there's a max number for these to be, but I don't know what it is because 50 is the highest I've ever typed in. Feel free to experiment, but do so at your own risk. I've been told that if you set it too high, it  can break your game. I don't know if there's any truth to this though, but still, fair warning.
Anyway, you're probably wondering why I including variables 6 and 7. Variable 6 is your Health and Variable 7 in your Stamina/Mana. I usually only set mine to about 500. Health wise, I mean. I never mess with the Stamina/Mana because I don't really see the point. There's a mathmatical formaula behind the regen and such, but me (as in the girlfriend) is not mathematically inclined so I'm not sure what it is. If anyone is interested though, I can ask my boyfriend. He's the smart one lol

6. So.....that's about it to the stats. just change them, and don't forget to save it of go into the Modules folder and delete the single player folder. Like always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. we'll try to answer them.

Now, onto the rest of it.
Adding more Attribute, Talent, and Skill points

1. This part is a little weird. You need to play WITHOUT leveling up. For Rogues, you only need to play until you're level 2. For Warriors and Mages, you need to play until level 3. The reason I say this is because if you don't currently have point in the area, it won't show up when you're wanting to change it. Now, It shouldsn't be too difficult to obtain these levels and play without leveling up until you do so. Flaemaru is a Dalish and had her 3 levels when I first got into the camp at Ostagar. It should be about the same way for the other classes/backgrounds as well.

2. Save your game (after reaching the needed level).

3. Open your toolset and go to your save file. File->Open File (or Ctrl+O)-> Owner-> Documents->Bioware -> Dragon Age-> Characters -> Flaemaru -> Saves -> Slot_1 -> Flaemaru.das

4. Go to the same place where you changed your stats. This would be SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR -> SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR -> SAVEGAME_CREATURE_STATS-> SAVEGAME_STATLIST
Looks like this (and don't you just love when I use the same image over and over?):
Posted Image

5. Now, this part is kinda tricky because the variables seem to change depending on the character. However, the SAVEGAME_STATPROPERTYINDEX should be the same. In this case, Mine is 34, 35, 36. If yours is not the same, I apologize.
   Posted Image
Everything that's in the red box is my Attribute stuff. I have 6 points in it currently (like I said, If you don't currently have points in it, it won't show up) and it's Stat Property Index is 34. All you need to do to change it is type what you want to change it to where it says 6. Let's say, you want 30. Type in '30', save, delete the single player folder, and load your game. Now, you'll have 30 Attribute points. Not 36, meaning they don't stack.
The stuff in the blue box is my Talents points and the stuff in the green box is my skill points.

6. Save the file. Go to your modules folder and delete the single player folder. Load your game, level up, and enjoy.  Feel free to ask questions, we'll try to help.

Now...on to the last bit.
Changing your money and the size of your inventory bag

1. This can be done at anytime (I think). Just be sure to play long enough to save your game.

2. Go to your character's save file. File->Open File (or Ctrl+O)-> Owner-> Documents->Bioware -> Dragon Age-> Characters -> Flaemaru -> Saves -> Slot_1 -> Flaemaru.das

3. Now, go to SAVEGAME_PARTYLIST (underlined in red below)
Posted Image
The SAVEGAME_MONEY (The blue box) is, of course, the money. It's all calculated in bits, again, mathematical stuff that I'm not good at. However, I also put in 10000000 and it gives me about 1000 gold.
The SAVEGAME_MAX_ITEMS (the green box) is how much you can carry in your inventory. I ALWAYS set mine to 500. Why? Because I'm a packrat. The max inventory in game(buying the backpacks from merchants) is 125. Now, fair warning, if you change your backpack value to something above the max inventory of 125, it should be fine. I say SHOULD because I've read that people have items randomly dissappear from their inventory and such, however, I've never experienced this. Now, another thing, I set my backpack to 500. Let's say I buy a backpack from Bodahn (be it on purpose or accidently) it WILL reset my inventory 'slots' to 125 (the max you get in game). Now, I've not had this happen, but I'm assuming that if this does happen and you have, let's say, 200 items in your inventory at the time, you will lose 75 items. Now, this is only an assumption, but I'm not sure how else it could happen. Does that make sense? So yes, if you DO change your max inventory to something above 125 DO NOT buy a backpack.

4. Save it, close the toolset, delete the single player folder in the modules folder. Go play your game. ^_^
As always, if you have questions, feel free to ask. We'll try to help.

I do believe that's it for now. Can you believe this took me like...4 hours to type up? lol Man I'm slow. Anyway, I hope this helps you out somehow.

Hi. I hope you can help me.

I made a new head to my character with the morph tool, but when I run the game, the head is flying above my character body, because the woman is small. Is there any chance to move the head lower?

Unfortunately, not to my knowledge. It does the same thing when you try to put..lets says..Morrigan's hair on a female elf. The hair floats away from the head and you can see into the head of the person. Aside from making an entire body from scratch in something like 3ds Max and then importing it and hoping it works, I can't really think of anything.Sorry

I'm sure there is. It's probably part of the other variables on the list with the stats, but I've never looked into all that much so I can't say for certain. Sorry.

Swaping what you put into herbal and putting it into coerce instead, would require the 'respec mod' I'm not sure where it is though because I've never needed it. However, I don't understand why you couldn't just add enough points to put into coerce like you're wanting. Also, I don't think there's anything you can do about the level thing. Sorry I can't be more help.

Ok can you help me out here then. I just installed the toolset, after I installed I started up my game and created a new save. Exited the game, restarted my pc, opened up tool set, went to bioware-dragon age-characters-slot 47, and there are two files there 1- anvil of the void.das and 2-anvil of the void.das.met. The first one will not open up the toolset says OUT OF MEMORY! The second one opens up but my character stuff isn't there.

Found my answer already and for those that don't know I'll post here what I read:

I wanted to post this link for those who where getting the "out of memory" error when trying to open a save file greater than X number of hours (around the time the save file becomes a little less than 1MB). Should be noted that this is for people with 64-bit systems and with AT LEAST 3.5 gigs of ram (yeah that's right, you need 3.5 gigs of ram to open a 1MB save file).

That temp fix didn't help me with the toolset giving me an out of memory message. I tried to open a saved game from the start. The das file was there on my first save and I got the same message. I have 4 gigs of ram too. I noticed at the bottom of my screen when the toolset is open it says it is using anywhere between 594MB and 3.4 GB

Thanks for your wonderful tutorials Raven. I can make custom faces to replace Bioware's premade character faces now, thanks to you.

I have a question tho' (Like you never guessed that one is coming ;))

Is there a way to get face morph from already made character. I made a tasty looking human male and want to take his face (I really forgot how I made his face and can't seems to re-crate it via face morph again) and change Alistair's head with it. I know changing Alistair (or other NPC heads) with morphs I made in Toolset. So what I need to know is, if I can snatch that yummy face of mine from one of the save games.

Thanks for everything again.

Have fun:)

The only thing I can think of to go back in lvl would be to use the console to reset yourself as a lvl 2 Warrior/Mage/Rogue using the console then re-level back up to where you want to be. Console information is here:

http://www.gamefaqs....ode/920668.html

So if you were a lvl 23 mage for example you'd "runscript wizard" to reset yourself as a lvl 2 mage then "runscript addxp" or use other means (like the Beguiler below) to get yourself to lvl 19.

As for save-game editing IMO the The Mutator's Beguiler is easier and safer to use. It also works obviously if the save your trying to edit is too large for the Toolset. It can be found here:

Resistances are scripts. Even if you could edit them in the save files(I haven't looked either) they'd just recalculate when you changed armor/weapons, changed areas, or saved/loaded anyways.

If your looking to add resistances you could make a custom ring or amulet or something. There are several item making tutorials that you can follow step-by-step no real scripting knowledge necessary. :wizard:

Was this 'yummy' (i can't help but chuckle) face of yours made in the toolset? Well dang, I suppose it was since you typed "(I really forgot how I made his face and can't seems to re-crate it via face morph again)". Well, I suppose the first question would be, do you still have the file from the toolset? As in the .mor or whatever?

You can ignore following babbling as Vae already answered my question.

Hmm, let me try to answer you to my best ability. (English ain't my native language and not really very familiar with toolset/real terms used to describe things, so I can be dump on ocasion Posted Image)

I created that face in Character Creator and just finished the game with him.  So all my saves and character creator file still exist.  Just need to import his face in Toolset somehow and export again as hm_...alistair.mop (can't remember exact name of the file but I hope you get itPosted Image)

social.bioware.com/playerprofile.php

If above link works you can also see that yummy face Posted Image

Honest answer: *Shrug* Dunno.
