It's my understanding that depending on your choices (like sparing Loghain), he becomes a drunk. But, I've seemed to have an option for him to remain king and get married. He's not in my party anymore, like I had hoped he would. His approval level is almost maxed.

I'm playing a male city elf and was curious if going this route (despite losing him) would still be a positive outcome. I like Alistair and hoped to have a more positive ending since this playthrough will be for both my awakening and the DA:2 background story.

Ziloe,

Here's the deal. The Alistair_is_a_drunk ending can only happen if you don't harden Alistair. You get this ending if you pick Anora to be queen, spare Loghain, and then get Anora to spare Alistair's life. Otherwise if Anora is picked queen, she will want to execute Alistair PDQ...unless you have a prearranged deal for them to get married.

If you already arranged for Alistair and Anora to get married (talk with Anora first and float the idea...she will agree...and then convince Alistair...and he can be persuaded to agree), then a hardened Alistair and ONLY a hardened Alistair will still agree to marry Anora even if you spare Loghain. He will leave the party, however, after reading you the riot act afterwords.

Ah, thank you very much for that. Though, you'll have to excuse me, but I'm not exactly sure what to make of that last sentence.

So, I suppose doing this will still mean the good ending all around? Or..

I'm pretty sure that Alistair can end up a drunk when hardened, too. It's just a matter of getting Anora to spare his life when you make her queen. I don't think her willingness to be convinced to let him live is dependent on whether he's hardened or not. I didn't see any indication of that in the toolset, anyway.

On a side note, gotta say I'm surprised how many people find marrying Alistair to Anora to be a good ending.

I happen to like Alistair and I also like how (hardened) Alistair ****es Anora out when she attempts to take control of everything. It just seems to suit it quite well.

Though, with recruiting Loghain, I'm at a loss. I didn't want to like him, but damn those dialogues. Considering I want this to move to DA: 2 as well, I wanted the best possible options. So, would having Loghain make the sacrifice be the best way out, because before this I thought I'd have the warden do the ritual. Plus, my warden is in a relationship with Morrigan already. =/

If you spare Loghain, hardened Alistair either becomes a great king or a bitter drunkard (unless you let him be executed). If Loghain dies killing the AD, King Alistair will grudgingly admit that things worked out for the best.
