If the Warden saves Amaranthine do the companions at the Keep always die? I'm trying to decide what ending I want. I'm going for a everyone lives happily ever after ending. (With the exception of the Warden who spends his time chasing a witch who may or may not be completely evil.) Any suggeestions on what choices I should make? Thanks.

No, they won't die if you've upgraded the Keep.

If you upgrade the keep all the way, then it can hold out on its own. But that "all the way" is where a lot of players trip up. It is not just a matter of giving a fistful of gold to the dwarven mason.

Now, all the way, does that mean I can't send troops to defend the farms and such?

Try defending them all.

***SPOILER ALERT***

I believe it also depends on which companions you leave behind. I believe if you leave Justice, Velanna, and Sigrun behind and you don't save the keep, they die. Though in the case of Justice, that's debatable. ;)

Velanna disappears, so it's possible she could pop up again.

Sigrun is the only one who dies. She faces the darkspawn horde and doesn't flee.

*SPOILERS*

I defended all and upgraded everything (blocked the cellar, got ores for armor, new stone, money, bomb ingredients, merchants, etc...). I did lose Sigrun but saved Amaranthine and everything was rebuilt quickly.

This is kind of what I want, but I'm undecided about letting Sigrun die. I know she gets a great and very emotional learn to face your fears epilogue if she dies but....

Thanks everyone I've got the playthrough I want.
