I want to know why this type of mage wasn't introduced in Origins. It seems unlikely that mages would just start using force magic out of nowhere.
I hope Bioware explains this.

Could be a couple of things, it's not a kind of magic taught in the Circle of Magi in Ferelden or It's not very common  so the Warden didn't have a chance to learn  it from anybody.

And yet we have nothing to go on that would lead to the above assumption. Force does not mean Jedi. The comparison became tiresome in the Arcane Warrior thread.

Could anybody (devs maybe) shed some light on this cool sounding mage specialization?

These are specialization trees, right?  The Entorpy, Primal, Arcane, etc. lines are still there.

My guess:

Blood Mage =  Damage Dealer
Spirit Healer = Healer
Force Mage = Crowd Control

It's probably an expansion on the new lower arcane brach in Awakening, with spells like force field, crushing prison, repulsion field, maybe something that pulls enemies into one spot, biotic throw, shockwave, lift, wait a minute...

i tried to get an answer too in the thread DG posted in. I really hope its not like the adept in mass effect UNLESS the force mage is related to the spirit school of magic. Then i can accept telekinetic spells. Lol.

Force Mage: Telekinesis --- or Protection/Defender Spells.

That's my guess based on the name.

Just sounds like someone who uses magic based on physical impact. Like long distance melee perhaps.

Ahh that makes sense. I wonder who would teach it to us? Obviously not Bethany, maybe the other mage in the party?

They'll just recycle some of the old Force Power trees from KOTOR and call it a Specialization...

Which means we get Force Crush again!

Yet, in another post (that I am too lazy to look for right now) one of the devs said that there was no Force Mage. It was a joke.

You've never heard of Force Mage. It does nothing like increasing the force of your spells.

I saw a couple people post it. But Force Mage gives you some very similar abilities to the Biotic powers from Mass Effect!
