ME1 established the universe and I've replayed far more than ME2. The Mass Effect universe was new and exciting in the first game. The follow-up was good, but it is more like a bridge between the first and third game and was less dramatic for me IMHO.

I haven't played many BioWare games. Of the ones I played Mass Effect 2 is my favourite. I still have to play the Baldur's Gate series and Jade Empire.

On the contrary, ME2 is my least favorite Bioware game (having replaced Jade Empire). In fact I would go so far as to say that it is one of the worst gaming experiences I have ever had as far as expectations were concerned.

My favorites:

1) BG2
2) ME1/DAO
4) SoU
5) KotoR
6) HotU
7) BG1
8) NWN OC

On EVERY site, the user score for ME2 is higher than for ME1

I wonder how many voters from these polls actualy played first ME and how many are just shooter fans so they prefer ME2 and skip all dialogues. You know there are lot of people that didn´t play first ME.

It's not just that, it seems that most ME2 fans are just lurkers, since there aren't many support posts. Could have been just me I guess.

Considering that ME2 really sell many more copies than ME1, I suspect that most ME2 players were also ME1 fans. Also, considering that there are a ton of awesome shooters out there, I doubt any would pick up ME2 unless they somewhat enjoyed RPGs.



I don't usually play shooters but preferred ME2. I agree with many of the suggestions for improvement, of course, but ME1 was even more flawed in my books. Of course, thats comparing these games to some fantasy ideal. I still enjoyed both very much.
