KOTOR's good but.... dunno, it just doesn't have replayability for me.
DAO's good too BUT it is... heavy, slow.
ME2? Pretty much percfect. Moar DLC, and the ending could've been better.

I love ME and ME2, but they don't hold a candle to BG2. KoTOR was awesome as well...the only bioware game I didn't really care for was Jade Empire.

Mass Effect
Dragon Age: Origins
Jade Empire
Mass Effect 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
It's not a favourite. But I do like it. Very much so.

On EVERY site, the user score for ME2 is higher than for ME1Phaedon wrote...
ME2 wins? Even on these forums?
GameSpot User Scores:
ME1: 9.1 360, 8.9 PC
ME2: 9.4 360, 9.3 PC
Please try and remember that just because something is awarded a higher score or a poll of 100 or so people say one thing is better than the other doesn't mean that qualitatively and objectively that thing (in this case ME1/ME2) is better than the other.
If you factor in the inclusion of all the improvements they made for the purely shooter crowd and all the complete removals of anything and everything that made it an rpg you get really skewed results.
One thing is very clear: whether you liked 2 over 1 or vice versa, the game elements and immersion intensive experiences that ME1 gave us are completely lacking from ME2, and have only been recently approached again with recent dlc like Sahdow broker and overlord. But even there, they're baby steps considering what was in ME1 and how they should have improved those elements for ME2 instead of removing them.

Oh man was I wrong.
But it did convince me to play more of Bioware's games. Finished Jade Empire and KOTOR, and I'm going to get the Balder's Gate series next. Everyone keeps warning me about the dated graphics and mechanics, but Bioware's games are too good to pass up. Love them all so far, but the ME series is my #1.
[Though picking between the first and second game? I can't even get past Eden Prime anymore, while I can replay the Omega-4 over and over again]

I feel, regarding ME2 specifically, they took two steps forward and one step back in certain circumstances. The loss of many RP mechanics, the forced linearity of levels, the lack of substantial exploration, customization, and options, were all disappointments to me. Yet it did vastly improve many mechanics as well. I guess they like to give it a positive spin and call it "streamlining." I call it "cutting corners."
So it's a give-and-take and I love each for their own reasons. I hope ME3 will be a definitive culmination of the series bringing together the best traits of both games and bringing its own fresh perspective. If that made any sense at all.

If ME2 had the story and detail of ME1, I would have rated it much higher. I'm replaying ME1 again and there are so many wonderful little touches to that game that got lost in the sequel. It's a shame.

Baldur's Gate. All of them, the entire Saga, tied for first. There is no RPG that even compares to Baldur's Gate in the slightest.
Yeah, Baldur's Gate is pretty much epic win distilled into game form. Although I will say that for sheer depth, Planescape: Torment does give BG a run for its money, although it's not a BioWare game. PS:T breaks a lot of the rules of a traditional WRPG (fixed protagonist, fixed backstory, very low focus on combat) and works beautifully.
But in BioWare's games, for me ME2 comes after BG. It's the only BioWare game other than Baldur's Gate that I've replayed as much.
