So I just bought MS1 on steam and I installed it, started it up it started going through the developers little video things, then soon as its to the point where I can click to start playing it'll blue screen and its does then every time. I updated my video drivers and steam should have the updates automaticly unless I am mistaken with that. Any one out there that can offer guidence?

I'm on a Windows xp media edition SP3

Cpu is a intel core 2

3 gigs of ram

Video card is a Nvida Geforce 8800 GTX

No one can diagnose the blue screen error if you don't post it here.

What's your sound card? I quickly Googled the error and ha20x2k.sys and found a forum where someone experienced this issue when playing Unreal Tournament III, which runs on the same engine as Mass Effect, and a possible cause is an X-fi sound card.

forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php

The best way to check if your sound card is causing the issue, is by disabling the sound card in your BIOS and seeing if the game runs.

Ahh that might be it then, I have a sound blaster X-fi, is there a workaround for it? or should I just update my drivers?

Your respondent only knew what he told you, second hand, it would seem. To me, that would appear to point toward your own next step being to search out that Googled UT3 forum he failed to give you a link for, and if you couldn't find it by yourself, ask for the link, from Fred.

Begin by turning off your sound card and see if you can run the game without sound. If the problem still exists if your sound card is turned off in your BIOS, that means my theory is wrong and you have to look for other possible causes.

This is the first time I've heard of this problem so I don't have a solution yet.

First, I won't be able to sleep tonight by your blue screen horror ;(

Second, just install newest drivers for your soundcard and the problem should dissappear.
