I'm caught between two combos for Shale, one is Precise Strike+Pulverizing fists for some near critical hit attack every time goodness, or just Precise Strike plus Stone heart for a bit more balance.  Thoughts?

On what difficulty you are playing? On harder difficulties, shale isnt a good tank,so i wouldnt use the stoneheart tree.Pulverizing blows and enough dexterity to get perfect striking and as an supporter/healer with stone aura was my choice.Thats what i took on nightmare and it worked out great.

Just set tactics to use stone aura when health of an ally drops under 50 percent and otherwise puverizing blows.

I'd have to agree with the above. Avoid using her as a tank. With stone aura set in tactics appropriately, and even an additional damager/side healer such as Wynne (Morrigan usually isn't the type you want to dabble into the creation tree, but some use her), you have a strong party as long as you (as a warrior) or Oghren tank, and an additional damager. You'd think since he's a beserker he wouldn't supply much to the tanking role, but at hard difficulty he works quite well. Alistair of course is fine, but honestly it's just a matter of me getting amusement watching everything beat on the dwarf.

I use Shale most often with my rogues or DW warriors for the Rock Mastery ranged buff. Archery makes a good combination with Hurl.

I prefer to use the pulverising blows tree, although each run-through i've gotten most of the other skills as well. The pulverising blows ability gives greater damage, but i think the disruptive abilities of the others can be as effective. Slam, Killing Blow, and Quake all knock around/stun enemies, giving Shale the ability to stop their skills or spells in mid cast.

Stone Heart + Precise Strike for most play, but for solo I utilize Stone Aura most often.

Shale's area stun's are nice with a couple of Rogues with coup de grace.

I send Shale on her way after reactivating her.

The thud thud thud of Shale's walking typically leads me to leave her at camp except for quests and events that involve her specifically.

But one time I brought her along when I knew I was going to betray the Dalish. I used the Superman Punch as my first attack on Zathrian and it one shot killed him. I laughed hysterically.

Otherwise, I treat Shale like Titan Maximum. Just let her punch the crap out of things. I put Shale on Pulverizing Blows and just have the tactics bar activate Precise Striking, Slam, and Perfect Striking.

I just use him to kill everything in the room. That's it, really.

Friendly fire is possible with quake and it does a lot of damage...
I rather avoid it.
