The number of users for "Ultra Wide Resolution" has grown quite a bit of the late with the introduction of ATI's Eyefinity on all of the 5800 series cards.

I myself just got a 5870 and am runing 3x24" monitors for a combined resolution of 5760x1200.

Grats to Bioware for the fast patch to 1.01 that fixed a game breaking issue where any dialog sessions would turn the screen all black.  After that fix we started to play the game as we thought it was intended.  I got all the way through the origins part of my character thinking all was well until I got outside for the first time.

Then I saw what was a really bad object pop up/vanish problem based on the angle of my camera.  I had other users on widescreengamingforum mention the problem and thought maybe it was isolated but it seems it is not.

I turned my game down to one screen and ran it 1920x1200 and O.o wow I was in a forest that whole time??!  I thought it was the great plains because thats how much of the folliage and landscape was missing while playing in surround mode.

I imagine this effects the matrox triplehead2go users as well and not just eyefinity, I would ponder it has something to do with the increased FOV and not the resolution.

To show the problem rather than talk about it is probably more effective.  I made two short video clips to display the problem so that it can be isolated and fixed as soon as possible, the difference in what you see is huge.

First Clip was originaly recorded at 1920x1200
http://rapidshare.co...s_1920x1200.mkv

Then here is a 5760x1200 extended  FOV surround recording
http://rapidshare.co...s_5760x1200.mkv

Im at war with myself now to wait for a patch, once you get into surround gaming you cant go back to just one screen, but in this current state your losing out on a lot of what the game has to offer graphicly and constantly distracted and pulled out of the game would by objects comming in and out of focus as you pan your camera or walk around.

Edit: If you prefer here are both video  files in a .rar file its easier to only have to download one time from raphidshare to avoid the wait time. - http://rapidshare.co..._Comparison.rar

I'm experiencing the same using SoftTH as well as playing in extra wide windowed mode.

I think this could be relatetd to the occlusion culling algorithm not expecting such high FOVs.

I just don't understand why you need to use 3 monitors?  It's your preference sure, but you account for what maybe 2 percent of people that play a game that way.  widescreen gaming is really best for racing or flight sims.  I can hook up 3 monitors as well, but I only use it for design, not gaming.  The break in the edges of the screen deter too much in the heat of action.  The only way to ever game in widescreen is if the screen is actually wide like this monitor...

Good luck on your search for an answer...

Sadly I had to send my card back because it broke and now I have to wait ages for a new one because of logistic issues :-(
But
I tried Eyefinity with 2 monitors for a short time and I have to say -
it does not add anything at all to FPS and RPG type games!
If anything it is distracting and, as is the case here, produces bugs.

Do yourself a favor and play these games on 1 monitor, dont wait for a patch for being able to play them in "awkward mode" :)
The screen in the picture above is amazing! Wish I had that piece! Whole different story obviously, but 3 screens with 4screen edges in the middle of the picture is the absolute atmosphere killer for me.

As long as Bioware claims to have Eyefinity support(as they clearly did with the last patch) I think it is not to much asked for to have this last bug fixed.
I really don't want to lose this kind of FOV
@mufuti7 :
Two monitor widescreen gaming is in no way compareable to triplemonitor setups. On three monitors, you've got the edges at the side and not in the midle of the picture where they distract a whole lot more ;).
@syklonis01:
Have you ever tried it?

Really guys this is not a debate on how enjoyable triple screen gaming is, it was a bug report. There is no reason at all to say its not important, no matter what your preference on FOV or number of screens are.

I have been a member of widescreengamingforum for years and I can tell you its the same tune, people think 3 monitors are distracting, people think the bezels take away from the game, and I can tell you for 2 years I was on the side of the fence where I could "think" but it was only this month that I got my setup so now I can say I "know" and it was all of 2 minutes in my first game before I said to myself "wow where are the bezels?"

You do not see them you focus on the center screen and the outside screens just become part of your peripheral vison, it really makes the game much more immersive.

Until you have experienced it for yourselves please reserve your comments on how nice it is, and once you have done so, keep the comments in the proper thread.

So any official Bioware crew that can attest the problem has been noted or was it lost in the sea of forum messages?

In defense of bioware and (I can't believe I'm gonna say this) EA, resolutions that high, and multiple monitor's, are not supported by the game I believe. I don't have the setup, but I'm not sure if you can get a resolution that high without forcing it via the card setup.

Most games are designed exlusively for one monitor.

And in rebuttal to your defense, you should look at the 1.01 Patch notes where they fixed an issue with for exact same setup I use.

fixed video issues when running on a very wide screen display, including ATI Eyefinity displays

Meaning they have intentions of supporting Eyefinity and had planned on supporting Eyefinity, they just are half way there, and need to be made aware of the other issues users like myself discover so they can completely get the game working properly.

Nothing is forced, like resolutions the game has it in the resolution selection, and almost every game I play supports it.  While RPG type games are one of the primary audiences for supporting sutch setups, so it would be a step backwards for Bioware to not support it.

World of Warcraft was one of the first games to put surround gaming on the map.

Games I own that work perfectly:

Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Painkiller
Prototype
Half Life 2
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Battlefield 2142
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty 5
Call of Duty 6
Riddick excape from Butcher Bay
Need for Speed Shift
World of Warcraft
Doom 3
Fear
Fear 2
Resident Evil 5
Borderlands (works but menu is zoomed)
Burnout Paradise
FSX
Torchlight
Farcry 2

This is not even the full list, see the pattern?  Most game support this, even older ones.  Its the changing of the times, to go against it would be like defending games being made for widescreen monitors and stating they should still be making only 4:3 square monitor resolutions.

I get pop in on any resolution, for example, in Haven when you look at the lake, depending on your camera angle, the trees disappear and reappear.

I'll try to take a picture later.

That is standard, it should not be vanishing on you so close and with only a 1 or 2 degree move from center, also look at all the foliage missing in the surround video. The lake bed for instance. Its just a plain pond in surround but in standard its full of plants and trees.

No, I'm not even using this ultra wide resolution thing, I'm talking about 1920x1200.

I know, so was I in the comparison video.

Have you even taken the time to look at them yet to see the difference?

I have the exact same problem with the o.p.

I have also 3 x 24'' monitors and I am using eyefinity for widescreen gaming.  I have no problems elsewhere but on Dragon's age things like trees and various other objects disappear constantly.

Like the o.p mentioned it's probably a bug and we hope that Bioware can fix it.  I was  very impressed by the speed they issued the first patch which fixed various bugs.

Whatever setup the majority uses is irrelevant, a bug is a bug and if it can be fixed it would be great if it doesn't it's ok it's not the end of the world.   Still I cannot understand people saying that since we don't use it no need to fix it.

The game itself recognizes the resolution (5760 * 1200) just fine. I will not try to convince anyone why eyefinity is amazing but for myself and others there is no turning to one screen gaming.

I am really enjoying the game, amazing work (as always) from Bioware, I just wish this great experience can be perfect also.

I also have this problem. It does not occur in portrait, so it must be something to do with extremely wide aspect ratios and draw distance of objects. I would like to see this fixed as soon as possible so that I can enjoy the game with Eyefinity support. Clearly Bioware intends for people with multi-monitor setups to enjoy this game as evidenced by the first patch, and they are almost there.. just one small issue that needs fixing.

Bioware? Has anybody actually acknowledged this problem yet?

Patch 1.2 didn't change anything. Thought to be honest I did not really expect an improvement in the first place.

Any news on this issue? Devs? Please? The least you can do for us is tell us what console command to use to disable occlusion culling!

Seriously? Bioware is not even going to acknowledge it? Please at least acknowledge that you know this problem exists!

Bump. 1.03 doesn't fix this issue. I was secretly hoping that it would.

I'd like to bump this one. And please look at eyefinity configurations with 5:4 screen ratios. There should be an algorithm about how to manage the cutscenes and dialog HUDs so that everythign is centered in the middle third of the screen.

I know it's too late for this reqeuset but: a HUD configuration tab that lets you set the screen arrangement of the hud elements and the cutsceene/dialog viewport would be nice, and let people specify the dimentions of the game the way they see fit.

As a workaround, I run the game in a 3000x1000 window. This appears to be the maximum resolution with no view distance issues (I have a triplehead setup with a 3840x1024 desktop) on my pc.

I just got my 5870 up and running with 3x1 24" as well and have the same issue. I'm hoping that we see a fix for this at some point, or at least someone to point at a way to adjust the FOV settings.
