Installation Failed on Ultimate Edition

I've tried running in Win2000 compatibility mode, but that doesn't do anything.
I've tried running as an admin, but that doesn't do anything.
I can't get this to install, and I doubt I'll be able to get a refund on an opened/activated PC game.
Win 7 Premium 64 Bit
Intel i5 750
ATI HD 5850
4GB DDR3
Is there a solution I am missing?
The installation always fails on the second disc, but when it fails it deletes everything. Incredibly frustrating and not what I'd expect from EA/Bioware...

What happens when it fails? Do any messges pop up? Do you get an error code?

"Installation Failed
The Installation has failed"
I'll try installing it right now and take a screenshot.
There's, as far as I know, no error code. Just "Installation Failed" twice.
And it is indeed the retail version. Got it for xmas, parents got it from Best Buy (If that matters.)
It always get's stuck on "Extracting ep1_core.rar (20.7% - packages\\core_ep1\\audio\\sound
\\music_bank_strm_new.fst"

What you could try is updating all your drivers for graphics and sound make sure you have the latest frameworks installed and completely eliminate it ever being soimething to do with your computer. Then try. if no dice try installing the game on another computer to eliminate the notion that it may be a fault with the disc. Then come back and we'll have another look at it.

Somehow managed to get a full refund from bestbuy. Re-bought on steam, haven't heard any of these issues associated with the steam version, so here's hoping.
Steam version worked flawlessly.
What a shame that it took that to get it working :s

If you have a disc copy, and have another disc drive you could try it in, that might work; but honestly, I'd just return it to the store and exchange it for a new copy. If you have a download copy, you need to re-download.

Everytime the installer tries to extract "army_march_dwarveswleg.bik" from campaign_movies01.rar in disk 1, the extraction will freeze at 7%.
I've tried to manually extract the rar files, opening campaign_movies01.rar from my disk and extracting it over to my harddrive using winrar (i even updated winrar just incase).
Same thing happens, all the other files in the rar can be extracted fine, but whenever i try to extract army_march_dwarveswleg.bik winrar will freeze.
Due to the winrar's inability to extract this file, no matter how many times i try to install the game using the installer.. i will get a popup after awhile saying "Installation Failed"
here is a screenshot: http://img403.images...880/errordx.jpg
anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?
or perhaps someone will be nice enough to provide me this file, its a really small file, but causing me tremendous problems :\\\\
Edit: I've tried on two computers and three different CD/DVD drives and it doesn't make any difference.

Given that there doesn't seem to be a common place at which the installation failed, this sounds like good old-fashioned corrupted files to me.

Why is it happening to so many people for this game?
Or is this common and I'm just exceptionally lucky to have never had this happen before?

I'll grant you this is a pretty high number of people. That said, I would also imagine that there a whole lot of people, generally, who are installing DAO this season. After all, you opened this thread two days ago - I'm guessing you got it as a gift?
If you want to be certain, try testing it like Lincoln did: use something that can read RARs, like 7-Zip or WinRAR, to try and extract all the files inside the .rar that the installer is failing on. If the archive-extracting program also fails to extract the files, that's good confirmation it's a damaged archive, not some kind of software or system error.

Lincoln105, I'm not certain if I have the ready capability to send you an 18 megabyte file. I'm also not clear on how you will convince the installer to install everything else, since it gives up once it hits that spot. Nor do I see any reason to be certain that it's only that one file that's damaged. There could just as easily be other incomplete archives, used later in the install, you didn't hit. I would recommend getting it exchanged wherever you bought it.WEGGLES wrote...

Yeah, Santa Claus brought it
I ended up returning it for a full refund and re-buying it on steam. It's working fine now.
I don't understand how data could end up corrupted though. It's a DVD-ROM so once it's written it's written, is it not?

Yes, but they're not indestructible. Even the writing process is not infallible, though I'm sure any DVD-pressing facility must have it down after all the years the format has been used.
I agree it's odd that it was that way out of the box, certainly. No disc-pressing facility wants to be producing defective products, and no retailer wants to be selling them. But nothing's 100%.
