Also, what Darth posted should be taken into consideration.

And yet the polls are from February, when Mass Effect 2 was brand new and we were still "lol"-ed by it. I prefer to look at things in perspective.
Yes, it is a great game. As a sequel, it's decent. But it's not better than the original, to the contrary (except on a technical level). I'd say make the polls again a couple of months before Mass Effect 3 comes so that the forums will once again be buzzing with activity and enough time will have passed since ME2's release, and you may get different results.

Those polls were made specifically because the vocal minority of haters insisted they were the majority. Back then there were even more haters. You create as many polls as you want, you'll get the same results, and arrogant users still won't admit anything.Burdokva wrote...

BTW, it wasn't till April that I got a lot of votes on the ME1 vs ME2 poll. Back then ME1 had 40%, and every month it's getting less and less

That´s not true. People change their opinions all the time. If you asked me in February if I like ME 1 or ME 2 I would say ME 2. But today I´m definitely ME 1 positive.DarthCaine wrote...

+ there are a lot of people (according to stats from Bioware even 50%!) who didnt play first ME.

I think the general consensus from blogs and forums that actually discuss the game indepth (not two-cent comments by random people writing about how they liked or disliked the game) is that Mass Effect 2's improvements were a mixed blessing. It was streamlined, but a lot of it's depth and personality was lost in translation, as well as a large part of it's immersion.
Edit: of course, it goes without saying that the combat mechanics, despite going against the writers' lore somewhat, are much better in ME2.

Sound pretty damn arrogant yourself. Just because some people prefer ME1 doesn't make all of them haters. And there is also a small fraction of those within those who preferred ME1 more that see themselves being outvoiced by the overwhelming majority of praise for ME2, and thus refuse to back down. This is often interpreted as hating, and I can see why. But not all of it is, as some just prefer the original, and offer their criticism constructively to see a positive change for ME3, versus simply "hating on ME2" because they have nothing better to do but to be snobs, as you so infer. Next time, watch the generalities, and be open to criticism if you want to dish it.
Personally, I loved ME2 for the combat fluidity and introduction of some pretty cool characters (not all, and I say "introduction to characters", as some really didn't fill a unique role or have an extended background). I disliked it for its short main story (I personally don't count the recruitment missions as story, more like filler, although some of the loyalties were interesting), linear exploration, and loss of RPG customization (armor, stats, weapons, etc. I know many didn't like the inventory, as it was pretty annoying omni-geling everything, but I still preferred the modded weapons and armor).
Anyways, OP, most people like ME2. I for one, liked ME1 better, simply because it was a better "experience." Almost transcendent, if you will.
