Sure, I get that. But would you say that if you're dissapointed in DA2, then you're going to get TW2 because that's the way an RPG should be? That's basically my wtf moment.

My WTF moment comes when not hating on DA2 becomes "you are not a true RPG fan".

It's the no true scotsman princable of rpg gaming, and equally if not more stupid than said princable.

Wonderful to see that no matter what the topic is before it will soon become an argument thread about the "missing features" of DA2 and how the Witcher series isn't a generic horrible menu mess with a fine layer of misogyny and cliche over it. It's like a less fun version of Godwin's Law.

I've never had... Any. Not a single problem with the menu system of TW. The misogyny seperates it from many other fantasy worlds/stories. Also, the books (which the game is heavily based off) are more dramatic versions of popular mythology/fairy tales, so there will be some cliche. Not to mention they were started in 1993.

Even though The Witcher 2 looks a dozen times better than DA2, I don't get these "DA2 is not a true RPG, The Witcher 2 is" posts, seeing as how you play a predefined character with no customization and the combat is hack n slash with QTEs.

Because there are hundrets if not thousands of different opinions of what a 'true RPG' is. And of course only mine is right and counts. Posted Image

Why does it matter which ones the "true RPG"? If someone limits themselves to playing games only within a narrow little genre, I sincerely pity them.

This is probably the best post in the whole thread.

To get back to the discussion at hand:

1)DA2

2)TESV

3) ME3 (unless they don't give me my Kaidan back)

I have never played The Witcher because I don't play games where I can't be a female pc unless it is a shooter which I just play to let off steam when I have a hard day of work (engineering).

I am really quite curious how ME3 is going to do companions.  If all the companions come back for ME3, 15 companions + possible new companions seems like way too much.  That's just a lot of people to talk to

If you liked The Witcher to begin with, you're not likely to have problems with such things as voiced protagonist, twitchy combat and a fixed character.

I liked TW for what it was.  The price point is also nicer for the sequel than DA2's.  I see TW2 on sale for $45.  I haven't pre-ordered that, either, but haven't seen that price anywhere for DA2.

We're in the same boat there.

I'm mildly but not terribly excited about any of the games coming out except Skyrim, and that because we know so little about it so it's still a cipher.  We'll be spending money on a new TV and HBO subscription to see Game of Thrones, so that's probably enough nerd obsession for 2011.  :innocent:

I don't know about Skyrim. If it has that god-awful level up system from Oblivion, or the apparent total loss of exclusivity in content from Morrowind...

I'm excited about Game of Thrones, but I haven't been followng it closely since it was announced. Is it coming out next year?

March or April.  1st season is already in the can.
