I saw Andraste as Jesus. Strongest reference so far after finishing the game is when the Maker once again turned away from mankind (probably for burning Andraste on the stake), Andraste is still interceding on our behalf by the Maker's side.

It's mostly the army thing, and the fact that she was touched by The Maker instead of being of The Maker. However, Leliana, the french girl who thinks she was told by the maker to help the main character rally the armies to defeat the invading darkspawn is much more Joan of Arc-y

Andraste is more accurately Jesus and Mohammed/Joan of Arc combined, but the Chantry is clearly a "no religions were harmed in the making of Dragon Age" version of the Catholic Church.
I thought the made up Chantry that references real-life religion was a "safe" way to talk freely about religion, seeing as it won't offend either religious people who may view anything extra as blasphemy, or free thinkers who may just view the Chantry as a totally new in-game religion, without directly referencing to real-life religion.
It is also open to interpretation, seeing as many people reference Andraste as Jesus, Mohammad, Joan of Arc, etc.

I don't see why everyone keeps thinking Andraste is Jesus. Jesus never lead a nation at all... if anything she's a lot closer to Moses than Jesus in that regard as a leader and a teacher.
The only Christian idealogy I've seen is the make up of the Chantry and the whole Maker turning from mankind.

Actually the name Morrigan is Gaelic and means "Great Queen". The Morrigan was actually a goddess who is often described as resembling the Christian Trinity in that she was in a way triune. The Morrigan is typically said to be made of three goddesses (sometimes said to be sisters), usually Badb, Macha, and Nemain, but others have been included as well. The Morrigan was a goddess of warfare and strife, but not really evil. She may have had aspects of goddesses of fertility and the hearth. Badb is the goddess of the Morrigan that had the closest affiliation with warfare and death, and is sometimes symbolized by a crow, which scavenged battlefields. Macha was associated with horses and warfare, and Nemain was associated with berserker-like frenzy.Flamin Jesus wrote...
Isn't the name Morrigan also a version of Morganna/Morgaine? That's what struck me first about her.
Edit: Which also supports, yep, we're going to get into trouble with Mordred, I mean our son, I mean child... Thing.
The Morrigan is a major character in the children's book The Hounds of the Morrigan, which is an excellent book that I'm surprised is not more widely known. If you know any kids who like stuff like Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, The Neverending Story, A Wrinkle in Time, or Tale of Time City, buy The Hounds of the Morrigan for them!

The whole connection with the Maker is sorta like Jesus.
Most of it seems similar to Jeanne d'Arc tho.

This is so blatantly obvious it doesn't even need a topic.
EDIT: And yes, there are several more religious figures that share aspects with her.

Andraste and Joan of Arc were both mortal women
They both had a vision from their god (or said they did)
They both tried to start a crusade
They both were burned at the stake.
Yes, Jesus was publicly killed and had a religion formed because of it, but the Chantry still worships the maker, they just believe that Andraste was a holy martyr.

@Darkshadow: Interesting point you brought up about Leliana, obviously she holds a different and more "radical" view of the Maker then most of her constituents. I don't think she ever truly left the Chantry itself though, she still held great respect for it and still praised it and it's teachings.

You can't expect to become a Grey Warden just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you. I mean, if I went around saying I was a Grey Warden just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me they'd put me away.Fudzie wrote...

What do you guys think of the parallels? I love the references in the game (superman! for one) and the Andraste lore being reflective of myths/tales existing in our own world seems pretty cool to me, especially considering the presence of the Chantry, TEMPLARS, the knights of a castle running off in search of the 'holy grail' (Arthurian lore! come on!), and those stories of how Andraste was betrayed in the codex =p Ahh I love this game hehe
Andraste never got the whole Resurrection option like Jesus did.
