I was gifted the Mass Effect 2 digital Download by a friend, and spent the next four days in utter frustration while attempting to get it to work from Gamestop's horrid download system. I then found the Eadm through Bing and used it. The game has completely downloaded and the problem lies in the installation.

Whenever I attempt to install it, it will get to the point of 'Extracting english.exe' and then say the Installation has failed due a Data Error that has occured.

I have run both express install and custom and nothing works.

My computer is more than capable of running ME2, it's not a graphics or processing issue.

I really do not know what to do, please help me. :[

have you tried running the instalation as admin and with compatability mode?

I had the exact same problem and went thru a month of trying EVERYTHING. Finally I took a friend's advice and just bought the game again, but this time thru Steam, as they download the patched version. It seems that some hardware driver combinations will not play with ea's unpatched installer and if you look on your error logs, you will see that the problem is with extracting .rar files. Steam has the game on sale now for the holidays and you can get it very cheap. Believe me, it was worth it just to pay the ten bucks for another download. I will never go thru EADM again,  Forget the admin, compatability, manual install and all of that ****;  it wont work.

ps. There were two other guys who I worked with trying to solve the same problem and we all had new pcs.  I'm just curious if yours is new also.  All of us ended up buying the game again thru Steam and it worked for all three of us.  Good luck

pps. I had the disk version as well as the eadm download and it had the same problem so don't go there.  I took the disks to the local pc shop and it installed fine on 3 pcs, then failed on the forth.

Im having trouble with my Digital deluxe edition installation. I already installed the game yesterday but forgot to register it on the cerebus network, so i reinstalled it today and it keep getting this data error and i already tried restarted my computer and it still doesnt work, If anyone could help me get past the issuse i would appreciate it.

My system specs are

MS Windows 7 home premium 64-bit

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

6.0GB Dual Channel DDRZ ram

ATI Radeon HD 3650- 1680x1050

Radeon 3000 series? Sure? It is very close to the minimum requirements (from either side...). "This data" error is not enough though. Please google the exact error message. There should be a bunch of threads already about that problem.

It said extracting english at the top, then it says "this may take a few moments" and then says -Installation Failed- Data Error-Click Finish
