How are you hoping we'll beat the Reapers? A straight forward battle or something more profound?

Personally, I'm hoping for the epic space battle in the background, maybe several covert groups of varying backgrounds coordinating viral attacks, etc., AND Shepard's team doing their own mission deep into dark space, learning a great deal about the Reapers, uncovering soul-shaking revelations, and ultimately beating them with something other than guns (I don't know how, but something interesting and not simply a big boss).  The ending in Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos is one I really like (Spoilers, if you want to read these books) - they basically, in a way, destroy the bad guys with an idea.  I don't expect a copy of what Simmons did in that - it's a very different story anyway - but I would like an ending that's not only a lot of fun, but is also thought provoking and more profound than a simple battle.

EDIT:  Furthermore (and this is the most important part) this is roughly how I'd like the last part of Shepard's mission to go (cut from a post I made earlier):

"I really hope Shepard has to do a lone and emotionally harrowing mission in the end and does something special - the kind of special that makes Jack Wall want to write a 9 minute epic like Clint Mansell's final piece in The Fountain, and leaves an entire galaxy slumped in awe, love, and perharps even sorrow of the greatest hero the galaxy has ever had in its entire history*.

Extra: I'd love it if somewhere in the middle of the game, we have a mission similar to Virmire, where one of shepard's companions chooses to stay behind to save everyone else (I could imagine Jack in this) and gets their own scene like Asuka's final fight in Evangelion (watch from 3:50 onwards).  It's a very moving scene that initially inspires pride in the human will (in a way, Asuka is one of humanity's greatest champions) - but in the end, Asuka's victory is overuled by the inevitablity of armageddon, and you're just left with the hopeless feeling that the coming events are unstoppable.  Imagine one of our strongest companions in a similar fight, symbolically representing galactic civilisation the same way Asuka represented humanity, with the same heart-breaking result - I think that could be a really effective way of bringing home the gravity of the situation on a personal level.

*including every single cycle that's ever occured."

ANYWAY, how are YOU guys hoping we'll beat the Reapers?

-A straight forward Reaper boss fight?

-Send Jeff Goldblum to kill the Reapers' mothership out in darkspace?  (Do we even want them to have a mothership?)

-A straight forward but massive space battle with all the galaxy's fleets?

-A Neo/Smith ending where Shepard sacrifices his/herself and melds with a Reaper's genetic material and destroys them from the inside out, or takes control of the entire Reaper fleet?

-Something emotionally and philosophically powerful?

-Some or all of the above?

I can't really say..... the reapers seem so invincible....

I am more more inclined to believe that we could trap them somehow because brute strength is a no no... just no no.

if I had to give a wild story, they arrive, burn their way to the citadel, and the citadel has to be sacrifice to trap them in a mass effect field... alternative... dimension lol

Hopefully is not virus independence day style, nor independence day style nuke the mothership. If the reapers even have a mothership it will completely break my view of them as perfect and equal...

There shouldn't be a Reaper mothership, because it doesn't make sense if every Reaper is a nation unto itself or whatever.

Personally, I hope its a combination of Shepard's personal prowess and an epic Space fleet battle between all the possible galaxy allies and the Reapers. I know that sounds simple, but it makes sense, because the Reapers don't have the advantage they did in previous harvesting cycles, so it should be possible to good ol fashion beat the reapers.

I want Shepard to sacrifice himself, it would prevent EA from exploiting him.

Epic space battle with the galaxies combined fleets (the final scenes of ME1 & ME2 combined x10,000)

..all the while Shepard has to make a terrible sacrifice (hopefully a massive Para/Ren cliffhanger decision) to bring about some sort of domino effect destruction to a percentage of the Reapers, at a great galactic cost (I'm not talkin credits).

Personally, I don't want to see the Reapers completely annihilated, because they truly are the most terrifying force to threaten an entire galaxy, & if they are completely destroyed it would be extremely hard for any future ME content to represent a threat greater than the Reapers.

They should just be sent packing back to dark space, where they will remain as the galaxy's biggest threat, even if they never return. The thought of them still out there just adds a sense of fragility to the ME universe.

I will be happy with this ending.

I always thought that except the first Reaper, the others aren't doing what they do by their own free will. That said, I really believe that is very possible that during the Reapers reproduction process, all of them receives some kind of "program" to accept the first Reaper wishes. I base this theory on the doubt that I have that all of the species accepted their fate after being attacked by this unknow enemy. Seriously, does anyone think that Human Reaper would attack us if it had knowledge about what the Reapers intend to do with the rest of the galaxy and that Shepard is fighting the Old Machines?

If we can bring back their free will, maybe we can fight the first Reaper, which I think is the strongest of its race?

But, I'm not totally sure, and I would hate such end. For me, losing is the only end that makes sense until now.

Shepard merges with a Reaper and then infects their network with lolcats, causing the Reapers to shutdown and eventually drift into stars where they are destroyed.

The merges with a Reaper part I'm serious about. The rest, I don't know.

@Rinpoche - I like the merge idea - makes me think of Evangelion or Matrix. I'd like them to pull that off without pissing people off!

@Grumpy-Mcfart - as vague as that sounds, I basically agree.

The only ending at this point that wouldn't include retcons and wouldn't appear like a deus ex machina would have to be the following:

1. Shepard and co. arrive on planet earth

2. They rescue as many humans as possible

3. Cause the sun to explode

4. Take advantage of the Reapers, who are probably without shields at this point

5. The rest of the game from that point on is a massive space battle against the Reapers

I'd like to beat them to death with their own shoes...

But failing that I think dark matter is somehow going to be involved. Some way of harnessing it to put us on more equal footing with the Reapers. I'd like to see an epic space battle while Shepard is up to some sort of shooty nonesense. Alot like the end of ME1 and ME2 combined but more epic.

I want shepard to go on a deep space mission into batarian territory to recover the lost ship Leviathen.

Then go on the offensive with a massive fleet of all the combined races led by shepard in the leviathen.

Of course with the destiny ascension and most of the citadel fleet destroyed a few years prior the battle might be a wee bit more difficult but still winnable.

Then shepard gets the option to have the remaining alliance fleet + leviathen fire upon the remaining fleets of the other species.

Leviathen uses battle meditation to make all the alliance crew fight better through semi indoctrination.

Shepard is going to call Mr. Fantastic, who will then create a device that harnesses the energy within a baby universe to send out a energy blast so powerful that it instantly wipes out 20% of the Reaper Fleet, scaring them into retreating into Darkspace.

Honestly though, I think it's going to involve tampering with the Relay network somehow.

I would not like that it would make the reapers a typical hive mind... I love the reapers now. Unknowable.. is not that they just harvest us for resources... they harvest a specie to reproduce. Is not the average aliens that eat us... or that just need us for fuel.

Every reaper is ever lasting, unknowable, the only time it harvests its to actually create a new reaper. Why do they force that on other species? I hope we never know.

Otherwise they fall into the "our leader commands us" enemy... which is very wide spread.
