Helmets in ME2 have been a general dissapointment...

Actually, the original N7 helmet is also horrible. And the Death Mask. They are designed for the "cool locks", not for a utilitarial sci-fi style (which was dominant in ME1).

The particular issue with the N7 Breather helmet is the "badass" pointless transparent sections at its sides. And although underneath them there is some black material layer, certain Shepard's haircuts glitch through it (I mean, the textures overlap) and are visible, which makes it look silly.

This is a criticism of ME 2 that I support wholeheartedly. Of all the helms in the game I think I like maybe 4. The N7 Helmet, Umbra Visor, Recon Hood, and the arcon visor.

Found this on youtube, his work is awesome.

I'd like to see helmets work like this in ME3 at least. I can picture the the closed face helmets open like that.

He also has other neat videos.

I recently started playing DA:O(a little late to the party, i know) and during one of the early cutscenes one of the first things i noticed was my character wasn't wearing a helmet even though i equiped him with one. "WHY THE HELL CAN'T THEY DO THAT IN ME2?!" I exclaimed.

If creating a fancy helmet folding animation is too complicated then just remove it during cutscenes like DA:O. Also, if Shepard is wearing a visor or a half-helmet then give him/her a breathing mask like the human squadmates, how hard is that exactly?

P.S. I really like the Inferno armo helmet but wish the glass was a little more transparent. Only in certain lighting conditions you can see Shepard's face.

Yeah playing DAO before or after ME2 kinda leaves you with a sour taste for the whole helmet issue.

In DAO I thought it was great design strategy to make the helmets look epic, but then remove it for any cutscenes, both to see your character's face and just for common sense. (You ever tried talking to someone with a helmet on? lol)

Has to be amongst the top five worst changes from ME->ME2.

I would love to see the helmet toggle BACK in the game.

In ME you had a toggle for each individual squadmate with one glaringly obvious exception.

You could hide one teammates face and show the other two...or any mix you desired.

Thats the ideal situation for helmets. Why they insisted in showing all the helmets all the time ...

*sighs*

Personally, i would stick with the Sentry Visor if you have it. Looks good, translucent and you don't look like you're drinking through a solid helmet. Too bad its a promotional item Posted Image Bioware should have used the same translucent tactic so we get to see the eyes fopr the archon visior

Crappiest thing? I PAID for those DLCs...the kestrel armour, the collector armour, the blood dragon armour. But because of the lack of toggle that destroys my immersion for roleplaying purposes, I never use what I bought. What a damn rip off...

Kestrel armour helmet isn't welded on like the others as the armour is in pieces...

But I agree that helmet toggle should've been kept.

Yeah was abit disapointment for me in ME2 that I spent over an hour to make my shepard and then findout that If I wanted to use helmets all the work would have been useless, same thing with KOTOR games come to think of it, I never used any headgear in those either becose they looked silly

They should just make helmets collapsible in ME3 and give us a key to activate the collapse/equip sequence like with the "G" key or something.

As well as making the helmets collapse automatically in cutscenes where it is warranted, ie: collapse it for drinking or kissing, and don't if you're in a cutscene in space or something.

Extra bonus points go to Bioware if: they add a computer voice through EDI maybe if you try and collapse the helmet in a hazardous environment, like "Shepard, collapsing your helmet in this environment will kill you" or whatever

GOD YES.

That's EXACLTY what a lot of us are talking about. Collapsible helmets also make sense in the game lore, guns n stuff already do that, why shouldn't helmets be able to?

Also: Awesome movie reference is awesome :D

I really hope they do something like this for ME3. Or at least just bring back the frigin toggle. Or ANYTHING. Maybe that way we'll finally get some helmets that actually look good and work well in game. :(

Whether it becomes feasible to make collapsible helmets for every version made for ME3, the ruling is near unanimous - Toggling helmets on and off for cosmetic purposes would be greatly welcomed back. Having to lose a 5% health or damage buff because you want to see your character's face is a bit of a letdown. :-/ It's certainly not the end of the world, but at least having the option to toggle it off would make a world of difference.

Well, if you think about it, making helmets collapsible wouldn't be the end of the world in terms of dev resources. Already a bunch of the head gear is just some sort of visor.

Making the other helmets collapsible shouldnt be about extreme minute detail, but rather something functional and that looks good. In other words, no need to deconstruct every helmet panel per panel. Just do each helmet in "blocks" and then make those blocks collapse.

Of course, this is all speculation not having any information on the development requirements of process that Bioware uses, but still it is the most elegant and functional answer to this whole helmet debacle.

Also: I really hope they give us some more aggressive and "real" sci fi looking helmets instead of all the round bs theyve given us.
