So I played DA a couple of times, I went to try out mods because I got told the mods made the game better. I signup just to voice my disappointment.  Modders just want Dragon Age to be porn? What the hell? What is this sex mod at number 1? I can have sex with my city elf cousin? And everyone wants to have sex with me? Plus the conversations are really badly written. How the hell did this get to number 1? Plus they demand popularity to give updates?

I saw they even have a quest mod - though good thing I checked out their readme first. This comes from their readme FAQ:

softcore porn mod for playing with one-hand wrote...

Where's the sex?
Sappho's Daughters, and to a lesser extent Zevrann, has been heavy on cutscenes. It's what we are famous for – and it's why all three of our mods are on page 1 of the Social.Bioware site in terms of popularity.

What the hell? They are proud that they just make crappy sex scenes with even crappier dialogue? Is this some kinda joke?

If this is the best mod Dragon Age has then screw that. I'm never trying mods. BioWare should be ashamed to have this crap associated with their game.

PS I heard DA2 will not have a toolset like DA. I think this is good. Would not want BioWare to waste time on letting people make bad porn for their game.

The most beautiful part of the MODs system is CHOICE! Download it or not, install it or not, play it or not, it is totally up to you. It seems you deem MODs or use them judging by content. Then do so with your searches too. If you search through "most popular" ones, ofcourse you'll end up with random and ranged kinds of MODs. A sex-scene MOD getting to high position is not an unlikely thing. It is scandalous, it attracts downloaders and curious people. Since when do goody-goody people ever attract the media? Ofcourse, the creators are proud of their work. They got the attention they desired, in exchange of their hard work. It just so happens that their idea of improving scenes differ from yours.

So don't download them. Rant or rave about it, and tell the people concerned of how you feel about it. It's a healthy thing. But don't dismiss the works of others, just because you didn't like one. There are an abundance of MODs that would suit your taste. And don't bring Bioware down the pits of hell, either. They just respond to people needs (i.e., more of this and that) and at some point, counteract with their needs (i.e., money, resources, free mountain dew, better machines for all the players so that they can go full blast without getting concerned with the cheaper b******s, and ofcourse, this and that).

So go ahead! Give the other modders a chance. Try out some MODs that deserve an acclamation by your standards. There are lots of them.

Those mods are NOT representative of the mod community.  I highly recommend trying Dark Times: Act 1. There is NO SEX and its a fun mod with a great story!

Please do NOT stereotype all modders to be like the Sapphos modders.

The only reason its Number One is because it appeals to guys who get off watching girl on girl action.

There are plenty of great non-pornographic mods which I use.

Might want to check out dragon age nexus, its a site (google it) they categorise it really well and you don't even have to see the pornographic mods if you don't want it, and they highlight actual good mods.

Nah, the person was just blowing off steam, I think. He/she had the time to tinker with such mods, read about it, and might even have thought more into it while registering to post a rant. He/she will come around.

But sure, let's use the post to boost up popularity for the MODs we like. Love the screenies btw.

Thank you.

As someone who modded previously for other games,  I am a HUGE supporter of mods for Dragon Age. I made those albums as a means to show people that mods can be fun.

I definitely agree we should boost the popularity of the mods that are worth playing. :)

I'll try out those mods you linked. Thanks.

I looked at the ones on the front page cos I figured the most popular ones would be the best. But 3 are the sex mods and there is another for nudity. Getting rid off that grey underwears is good, but still that is one of top ten mods? Those sex mods will be giving mods a bad name for as long as they are there.  Just because of them being scandalous does not make them good. Popularity should be for good mods, not crappy sex mods with bad writing. Even if people like crap movie that takes lots of time to make it is still a crap movie.

I did not also know about dragon age nexus. Thanks for the link, though I am worried. It is not BioWare's site and has lots of ads. Is it safe? Could I get viruses from the mods there? I see mods with better textures and more hair and colours that look good but do not want to get hacked.

I am glad my list helped you. :)

Believe me, it boggles my mind why those mods are in the top 10. They do not add anything to the game. My guess is they are being downloaded by alot of teen boys.

Most of the modders here communicate and work together. I don't think the ones that make the sappho mods do.

As for Nexus, I have NEVER been hacked but its best to be careful because people have had their work stolen and reposted.

Always download items that have comments and endorsements.

If you are worried abouts ads, I use two gret plugins for firefox..... Adblock and Noscript. They work perfectly and block everything.

Also...when you click a mod, and its an exe don't download it.    They should be dazips and those are safe.

Ok my apologies.  I assumed that the OP was informed enough about Nexus, that's why I didn't consider linking (aside from the fact that I was using a tablet that time).  Also, Nexus is the only place I've been through with regards to MODs.  So I assumed the OP had gone through what I've been through and was just disappointed about the rankings.  Oh well, my apologies.
I haven't seen any exe file MOD yet.
Like I stated first, (Nexus has) an abundant supply of MODs.  Just a little too much of a good thing.  At first, I only read through particular categories (i.e., Companions, Animation, etc.) then filter them descending by endorsements.  Later on, I went through all of the current ones that time (about a month ago) and found out that there are some underrated MODs out there too.  Like I said, there's just too much of them.
Some of my favorite combinations:
Eye soothing MODs:Improved AtmosphereUniversal Dye KitThe Winter ForgeA Sexier Alistair ... well, I'm now learning how to use the toolsetSacred Ashes Sten ... well, I'm now learning how to use the toolsetThe Icons ProjectHelm Removal and other versions... but I like this one mostDeathblow MultiplierWhite Teeth ... and fresher breathShale Retextured ... a rock is a ROCK!  Unarmed Staff CastingSpell Shaping (used on my second run) ... the easy way out

To ease the pain:Innodil's Pocket Plane (careful, though, might get a little over-powered with this)"The Advanced series" (Advanced Tactics, Advanced Quickbar, and Advanced Party)Teleport (have mercy on your feet... no cars yet that time)Combat TweaksMadd Gift GuideCharacter Respecialization and its many forms
For future runs:Adopted ... I won't accept that Dwarves cannot learn magic... it's my fantasy dabbit!Expanded Shape Shifting (for a full-on Shape Shifter using no other skills but that)Wildkin Adept (I miss blue magic... and it's for rogues!)Ritualist and Warlock (interesting but a little too strong at the start)Death Knight ... I believe double-handed warriors should have a little something extra sometimes.Chantry Monk (Everybody loves Kung Fu fighting!)
(le pant!)And I love these extra quests:Alley of Murders (love love love)Dark Times (if I won't include this, DA community will banish me... well, I'd banish me too)Bloodworks (another love love love)Castle CouslandTemple of Vulak (uhh.... I haven't finished this one yet)

At the Nexus, one may compile favored listings by Adult or Non-Adult options. See here:

I really must say: Respect to ll the modder, they tried so much,to make the game unique for every, who wants it. I use some mods and enjoyed the results. Everybody must choose for him- or herself, to use extra nude or love mods.

People make mods for all sorts of things not just porn. I'm not sure why the OP is so upset it's not like somebody forced him to download all those crazy porn mods.

If you stop looking at boobies for one minute you'd find there are tons of mods ranging from tiny changes like fixing small bugs to whole new game characters, new weapons, robes, armor a comprehensive cosmetics list of things you can add to the character creator, mods to change the look of NPC's the list is endless and only limited to the imagination of the modders.

So stop looking at porn and start downloading some good mods.

My issues actually are compatibilities. Is there like a book or a chart or a guide or something where we could find compatible/incompatible or ways to make them compatible? MODders sometimes mention particular files to watch out when using other MODs. But with multiple MODs applied, that's a whole bunch of files to check.

... wait, is this the right thread where I should put this? Oh NVM.

Go MODs!

There are a lot of non-sex mods available to select. It is up to you to select the required mod, so don't start complaining where you have a clear choice not to use them at all.

BTW your argument regarding DA2 tool-set fails.  Your argument sounds like "There are porn sites in internet. The government should ban the internet, because then no one will be able to publish their porn sites".

You can just download the compiler which fixes problems with file clashes much of the time and combines them to one file. Some require you to have other mods installed first depending on what they used to create it.

While I'm actually in helpful mode, Purple Lady's blog lists the mods she uses with her opinions about how well they work and tips on installing them. She is a terrific resource for the beginning modder.

What, erotic contents are the first to appear and the most sought after on mod sites.

Since when this is news? Dragon Age is not to blame for that.

Well IMHO they should of been topless to begin with. The love scenes were more of a joke to me . Im saying morrrigan covers up more then she is normaly just walking around with her shirt on. And there is nothing wrong with the nude human body. And i think the scenes look better topless .And if bioware is using the same game-engine? There is no need for a new toolset the one we have should work just fine for DA2. And its best for the mods to read the whole read-me first. Usually they tell you half way down the page that you need these other files First. Just saying.
