Do people make a habit of dressing their friends and work colleagues?

Umm...it's called employee uniforms.  Most businesses have them, and kinda make you wear the most horrible outfits imaginable.

lol where do you work McDonalds? Every place I've worked or every business workplace I've been to, save for the military and food industry, has a proper work attire guidline. People are free to dress as the feel given that it falls with in those guidelines.

So to answer the question above, it would be appropriate to say NO I do not dress my friends and colleagues.

To go by your thinking well, bioware would be the company or "the man" and they dress their subjects save for the one that is given to you to mold how you wish.

For what?  Sounds like a goal for The Old Republic (which will need to sell a crap load to recoup the rumored development costs).

I don't want to find out what will happen if it flops.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about that too.  Bio isn't exactly known for it's ability to balance games, and they are usually pretty damn buggy, and take forever to get support or fixes.  Even assuming the game setting and playstyle are awesome and addictive enough to warrant a monthy sub, those two things will kill an MMO fast.

If you can afford a console and console games, you can have a PC that will run DAO fine -- we're talking well under $500. Don't know about DA2 yet, but it's not supposed to have a huge jump in requirements.

How'd the console makers manage to fool people into thinking that gaming needs an expensive PC?

Part of it is the "PC is magic" problem. If you know very little about computers (like I used to) upgrading or building your own machine is very intimidating. Any kind of custom order to a manufacturer tends to be very expensive.

People also tend to factor things like the monitor and so on instead of the raw CPU cost. Which is silly, since no one considers the price of a TV when buying a console.

since one of the founders of bioware has stated that their new goal is for every game they release to sell millions of units, its not a stretch.

New goal? Bio wasn't trying for bestsellers before?

Meaning 5 million+ or its a failure.

I don't think Bioware is detached enough from reality to expect that as a realistic figure.

Former primary PC player turned primary console player here, its not that PC gaming is more expensive on its own, for me it just so happened that the economic downturn occured at a time when I already had the consoles and my PC was hitting upgrade time.  I can afford to shell out cash for games from time to time, but building a new PC is out of reach currently.  Luckily work is picking up, and if it stays that way my finances will be back to normal by summer.

not sure if five million is actually the minimum, as that seems out of reach for most rpgs. but i do remember two million being mentioned as a bare minimum. two million units is quite a lot. if bioware wants a minimum of two million units sold then you better believe they will do everything in their power to appeal to the highest amount of gamers as possible. that likely means simplifying rpg elements to make them easier for non rpg players to pick up.

I could actually buy two million as a break point for Bio. But it doesn't follow that they need to do everything in their power to reach that point unless gamers themselves have turned against complex RPG elements. NWN1 sold, what, 3 million?

Edit: between 2 and 3 million, actually.

Looks like Sarah has replaced me as the target for an assemblage of bombardment.. Basically, I find these forums to be teeming with impertinent charlatans employing mob tactics to asphyxiate the erringly perceived dissenters of ratiocination.

FWIW... I think the individuality of the companions could be preserved with a hybrid system similar to the one utilized in ME1.. A complete adoption leaves little room for fans of both camps to peacefully exist (as this forum clearly promulgates) and should not be the series' terminus. Hopefully, this is pro tem and we will get a solution to conciliate both sides in DA3.

The goggles, they do nothing!

"As this forum clearly promulgates," "asphyxiate the erringly percieved dissenters," "conciliate both sides,"

I think my parser just broke.

You must be trolling. Please tell me you're trolling. Please. *breaks down sobbing*

I must not give in. I will be strong!

Back on topic:

I'd personally be very satisfied with something like the picture Maria posted. It looks attractive, while not veering into the realm of, "by the Maker, put something on before you trot into battle." I do wonder at times if they did any focus group research before implementing a lot of the design decisions they've gone with.

What? You must be a professor of psycholinguistics if you're mentioning a parsing program here... You have a problem with my syntax or just the egregiously flamboyant way I thrusted them into the sentence? I'll admit I was having some fun this time...:D

We're obviously different writers if you're bringing syntactic analysis into this, as I am definitely not a 'structure' guy. (I probably didn't need to clarify that ;P) In fact, a strict adherement to these kinds of rules don't resonate within me and are not a conern of mine in any capacity. I improperly use elipsis (as you picked out) to interject personality and I do not pore over my works to decipher 'formal grammar.' I just write. For me...(see!) it's not the structure it's the soul...

Anyways... Proceed with your cold, clinical analysis of each and every token of my prose to establish your patriarchal role in the hierarchy of literary dominance. =]

I meant that more as a matter of not nessecaraly having the funds for multiple systems.  if the X-Box has more games I want to play than the PC, then I'll buy an X-Box.  With that purchase made, I have the funds to enjoy games on that platform, but not to spend on a new pc and games.
I mean this hypothetically, I actually do have a pc that runs Origins, so I play both on it and my 360, but not everyone nessecaraly does.  Keep in mind, it's currently hard for a lot of us to find jobs.

your use of the ellipse is technically still with-in appropriate bounds. as they can also be used to lead in or signify a pause. So yeah...It confuses me as to why anyone would say it was wrong when at least as far as text conversations go your ellipse use is correct for internet/forum/blog use. Granted i'm sure if this were an intellectual english paper someone would get marked down at least half if over used but you've used them well with in their range so far.

edit:sorry didn't mean to de-rail it's just been bothering me.

I don't know, but they've done a good job of it.

My math's a bit rusty, but I'm fairly certain $500 is more than $300.

Sure -- if you don't need a PC at all in your house. Though I guess with smartphones now maybe people don't.

Also, not everybody has the inclination or the know-how to build their own computer, which makes the $500 estimate more realistic. Buying a stock gaming coming computer is more expensive than just buying a computer to run Windows and surf the internet with.
