I bought it yesterday from steam for the 9.99 deal, but now I'm having an issue using multiplayer =( Whenever I click it from the game menu, the game becomes unresponsive... the music keeps playing but the game freezes with the multiplayer button hi-lighted and does not progress to the multiplayer login ='( I currently also have Nwn 1 on my computer (Windows 7) and the multiplayer on it works fine... whats going on? =(

Any chance you could list system specs and/or an error message?

Does anyone happen to know how Steam localization works? I want to buy a copy of NWN2 for a friend in another country but they prefer English to the localized version and I want to see if there is a way to make sure I get them a non-localized copy.

I don't know, but you can use an English dialog.tlk file to put the game in English, if that's the problem.

That is the problem as I understand it. Is replacing the tlk file a simple thing? I don't want what is intended as a nice gesture on my part to turn into frustration on their end.

replacing the Dialog.tlk is fairly simple. just toss whatever Language .Tlk into MyDocs->NWN2 (not the override, but its parent directory above). To use it in the toolset, back up ProgFiles->NWN2\\Dialog.tlk, then copy whatever Language .Tlk there also.

nb. the paths for the Steam install are different, but i imagine the idea is the same.

The drawback to this is that there seem to be local strings inherent in the Toolset engine (at least, not sure about the game engine) that still show up as local; suggest, best put in the extra footwork and get someone at Steam interested ..

Thanks. I have a customer support request in with Steam. I just figured a second opinion couldn't hurt.

Apologies for the slight derail. This started out as a Steam sale question.

I've remembered there's a problem. All text will be in English, but the voice acting for the OC and expansions will be in the original language. There must be a way to change this too, but I don't know how, changing some other files I guess.

But yes, an English-localized version would be much easier, if you can find it.

I'm betting you'd have to get all the vo files from an english version and copy them over.

If anyone sees this deal pop up again, would like to hear about it.
I've already spent enough on this franchise that even the current 20 clams is hard to justify.

I heard steam limits the use of certain mods with games. What's the deal with steam's version NWN 2 ?

Should i look to get the disks instead. I don't want to be limited in any way.

Was thinking of picking up a couple copies for my kids. Is there some sort of limitation as mentioned above that anyone is aware of?

I haven't added mods to NWN2 but I have with DA:O and never had a problem.

$6.79 (USDollars) on steam for next 20 hours or so. Can't beat that unless you're a game pirate.

NWN2 Patinum which includes NWN2(Main game) + Mask of the betrayer(Expansion) + Storm of Zehir (Expansion)

It was a great deal but I still failed to pick it up. It was in my cart till deal switched over, I was basically reading up and the complaints on Metacritic and the Steam forums about its bugginess put me off (and I'd bought Fallout 3 the day before, and DA:O UE to get awakenings before that)

Hopefully I'll be done with them when NWN 2 next goes on sale (assuming it does)

I bet it will be on sale at Christmas. Steam does those two sales every year. I did an initial NWN2 test and ran into some random crash bugs with my video card (despite having the newest drivers). I installed the Client Extender and it seemed to fix them though. I haven't had much time to play the game since then, so it's possible there are still bugs. It definitely seemed to run better with that little addon though.

Yea but damn I already have the OC and MOtB. I just want SOZ on it's own. Can't win huh?

Getting the Platinum pack for a low price, even if just shooting to get SoZ is still a damn fine deal, you gotta admit. The Steam version is updated to the latest updates and also is able to be run on Win 7 with less issues (or so I have so far heard.) I have the Steam version as a digital backup and bought it for 9.99 on the first sale drive. I am not necessarily a fan of steam or digital online only versions (I have the entire set on DVD as well) and I figured this was a really good price to have backups online in the event of a fire or something in the far flung future.

just a thought

11.3 gigs for nwn2 installed (same as a disk install). Plus whatever is needed for Steam if you don't already have it. My steam folder is 11.7 total, I don't have anything else installed in steam.
