Well, I visit a couple of forums and on pretty much every site PS3 gamers don't seem too excited. Can't be coincidence?

Yes because a couple of forums really equates to every PS3 user in the world doesn't it?

Erm, nope it doesn't. I know a fair number of PS3 owners who are pumped and ready to command-der Shepard (see what I did there? :P ). Not every player of a system regularly visits forums. Some just, you know, play the games.

Oh and of course, I'm a PS3 gamer and getting the game when it comes out, even if I have already completed it 8 times already on PC. Got 6 more playthroughs already lined up on PS3.

It's not that PS3 Owners don't like Mass Effect 2, it's that Sony/Microsoft Fanbuys don't like ME2.

Sony Fanboys don't like it because if they acknowledged that they liked it, that would be acknowledging that Xbox 360 has good games. and Microsoft Fanbuys go on the PS3 Boards on sited like GameFAQs/Gamespot and blab about how fail the demo was, creating the illusion that PS3 Owners hate the game.

When did I say that? Oh right, never. Hence the "is it just me" part. I do not speak for everybody obviously, but it's just something I noticed.

This.

Their excitement - at least for now - is no different than your excitement for a new IP.

I don't know about you, but when a new IP looks good, I get very excited. (Mass Effect, Gears of War, Uncharted, etc etc)

I'm a PS3 gamer (and a little bit of a sony fangirl). Don't get the whole console wars since both, IMO, have something good. But this isn't about the consoles, this is about PS3 excitement.

I have to admit I'm not the most excited. I was and then I realized that all the work I did on the pc version wouldn't matter. If they had decided to bring ME1 to the playstation as well (on the psn or something?) I'd be about twenty times more excited. The fact that everything fro Me1 is going to be covered in a little comic doesn't sit right with me. Had they decided to bring ME1 (which I understand that there are reasons that they didn't) I'd be ready to buy both, replay them a dozen times, and then wait anxiously for ME3.

Sadly it just was not meant to be. DX

Yes. This is true.  I can't stand myself for this very reason.  And my PS3/Xbox-owning sides both despise my Wii-owning side.  The PC-gamer side thinks all my other sides are sub-human scum, especially the DS-owning one.  We don't talk about the PSP...ever.

It happens, but people are generally more excited for sequels rather than new IP's.

This, why would PS3 owners get exited when they already have tons of far superior PS3 exclusives to play, what you Xbox 360 fanboys consider to be awesome the PS3 owners would call them "Meh". Why play ME2 when you can play MGS4, Uncharted 2 or God of War 3?

You rarely see a PS3 user complain about missing out on Xbox 360 exclusives however you see Xbox 360 fanboys complain all the time because they want what the PS3 users have, why? Because the exclusives are superior on PS3, thats why.

Because they're all completely different styles of game and the latter three have all probably been beaten once, if not many times over, by most PS3-only gamers at this point?

Well sure, I guess once they have beaten them all they would give lesser games a try however this thread is asking why PS3 users arent getting exited about ME2, why would they be exited about a lesser game being released on their platform when they already have far superior games to anything the Xbox 360 can offer? I mean you might as well ask why people wouldnt be exited for the announcement of Big Rigs 2.

*grits teeth* I'm not going to argue that the games you list are low-quality in any way, nor am I going to argue against the PS3 in general.  Though your attitude certainly merits it, the fact is I have no real reason to do so.  I don't own a PS3 and thus have never played those games, so whatever flaws those games undoubtedly have (like all games) I wouldn't know about.

However, I will give you reasons to play ME2 even when you can play those games.  First of all, the same reason one would play any game!  Variety, the spice of life.  If you stick with just a few games and never branch out your game time will get rather dull.

Secondly, Mass Effect offers a different experience than any PS3 exclusive.  As I said, I don't know too much about those games, but I do know that the paths those games offer are very fixed.  Maybe a couple decisions can be made by the player; for the most part, though, the games "hold your hand" through the story.  Not that that's a bad thing in itself, but Mass Effect offers something different and arguably better.  You are Commander Shepard.  You make the decisions throughout the game; you choose what to say.  You get to know the characters personally, and you choose how to interact with them: who to befriend, who to oppose, and who to romance.  Mass Effect pushes the boundaries of what storytelling can be in a videogame, in ways that no PS3 exclusive does.

Thirdly -- and this mostly applies to science-fiction fans -- is the genre.  Mass Effect allows you to explore a Star Trek/Star Wars-esque galaxy.  There is no other game -- PS3 or 360 -- that offers the RPG style exploration in a science-fiction setting.

So, that's what Mass Effect offers that you can't get out of games like MGS4, God of War III, and Uncharted 2.

As a ps3 owner I was super stoked about me2, but the fact that I had to wait so many months longer slowly killed that excitement. Still glad I can finally play it though.

Well that much is obvious as you have no idea what you are talking about, storywise ME2 is pretty much like every other Bioware game available (you do know that Origins was released on PS3 dont you?) and combat wise it plays very similar but far inferior to the Uncharted games (minus the climbing and exploring of course). ME2 doesnt offer anything new, while there is no game that can offer the exact same experience as ME2 I am sure that you would be hard pressed to find a game that offers the exact same experience as Big Rigs either, that doesnt mean that the game is automaticly worth playing.

I was excited for ME1 when I heard about it because BioWare, the same guys who did one of my favorite games, Knights of the Old Republic, were doing it.

I don't think it's the game itself that's creating a lack in ps3 user excitement, but the fact that the excitement has passed. Back when we saw the trailers many of us couldn't wait to see it in action, but then we couldn't play it unless we had pc or xbox360. That was a sad day. Now with the release date for ps3 so much later, we still want to play it, but the enthusiasm is somewhat passed.

Not trying to argue that Alpha Protocol was a good game however it did offer a very similar experience (and in some ways superior experience) to ME2, what makes ME2 worth PS3 players getting exited about over Alpha Protocol?

Good job arguing a point I already admitted, while virtually ignoring the storytelling point I made.

Yes, I know that Dragon Age Origins is on the PS3.  But it's also on PC and 360, while you were talking about exclusives.  Even so, Mass Effect differs from Dragon Age in that the main character is fully voiced.  And actually, ME2 is something of a departure from BioWare's standard story structure.  The intro section before the game world "branches out" is relatively short, and while there are several "hub worlds", the story is not focused on them.  The story is split between nonlinear recruitment and loyalty missions across the galaxy, and linear missions fighting the Collectors.  Regular BioWare games, including Dragon Age, have an intro section, a non-linear arrangement of hub areas each with a quest line for the main plot, and then a final stage.

Whether or not ME2 has a the standard BioWare plot setup is beside the point, though.  The fact remains that no PS3 exclusive even tries to give the player the control over the story and interactions with NPCs.

As for ME2's combat vs. Uncharted -- again, I haven't played Uncharted, but from what I can tell it seems like a rather down-to-earth shooter with an Indiana Jones-style adventure story.  Tell me, can you cloak as Nathan Drake?  Can you hit enemies with telekinetic force?  Can you freeze them solid, or incinerate them?  Can you charge at enemies, phasing through objects to slam into them?  Can you get guns that fire mini-nukes and mini-black holes?

You move your character around, take cover, and fire basic guns the same way in Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2.  That's about where the gameplay similarities end.

LOL the fanboyism is strong in this thread.

Whatever reason for PS3 users excitement or lack of for ME2 can be attributed to a lot of different reasons.

the long wait after PC and 360 users get it can play a big part.

Some PS3 users have the PS3 for the PS3 exclusives that they really want to play (I know I did) I just bought my PS3 not 2 months ago and have been enjoying Uncharted 1 and 2 (OMG AWESOME), God of War, Infamous, MGS4, Red Dead Redemption (main reason I bought it) Smackdown Vs Raw 2011 (shut up I llke it :P) games like Heavy Rain, Uncharted 3 and other PS3 exclusives is what I got the damn system for.

I had already finished ME1 and 2 three times before I even decided on getting the PS3. When given a choice I will always pick the PC version over the console but by refusing to be PC fanboy I am enjoying some great console games as well.
