Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - I friggin' loved the hell out of Star Ocean and Star Ocean 2. Not only was this game inferior to both previous games in regards to gameplay, but completely destroyed the stories and worlds of them as well. I have nothing but disdain for everyone involved.

Every Final Fantasy from 8 and on, with the exception of 9.

Both FF Tactics Advance games. Turned the awesome world of Ivalice from the original FFT and Vagrant Story into storybook fluffy crap.

Hell I might as well just say everything Square Enix has put out since the merger. I miss Squaresoft so damned much...

And finally, Oblivion and Fallout 3. Both are watered down versions of Morrowind, and generally lacking in anything resembling soul. New Vegas, while still using the same crappy engine, at least seems more alive and has some decent storylines.

Wow some hateful people in this thread.

Here are some I didn't like:

Final Fantasy X - Way too linear even for a JRPG and the story and battle system were rather uninteresting. Music also wasn't as good as the predecessors. TBH, the game is extremely overrated.

Mass Effect 2 - Has to be my least favorite Bioware game. Story and RPG elements are really subpar. More of a shooter than an RPG. Has to be the biggest disappointment for me in years.

Resonance of Fate - Lol this game definitely isn't for me. I don't really like the story, the gameplay is too repetitive and I'm not really a fan of its graphics.

Oblivion - Such a pointless game, Morrowind is superior in almost everything. Why play this game then?

I played

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
KOTOR
Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Mass Effect 2

So pretty much all of the top tier games I think?

The Witcher's combat is tedious to say the least but its worth plowing through for the story.

Mass Effect 1. The story was ok but the combat felt like a dumbed down shooter.

Right now I can't enjoy playing TES IV: Oblivion. I've done practically everything in the vanilla game and played the main quests of Shivering Isles and I have no interest in building up another character again. Story and plot weren't that impressive either.

Same thing with TES III: Morrowind. Way better story and plot though. I've actually completed the main quest of this game. Twice.

Hence the reason I'm not that excited about Skyrim. I'll check some reviews and go from there, but it's definitely not gonna be a first day buy for me.

Beyond the Beyond(probably the wrost RPG I have ever played)

Unlimited Saga(as boring a game as you could possibly imagine)

Wild Arms 4(terrible sequel that killed a relatively cool JRPG series)

Final Fantasy X(Turned the FInal Fantasy series into a corny melodramatic anime).

Final Fantasy XIII(Like Final Fantasy X except worse).

Deus Ex Invisible War(This game should be taught in game designing classes on how NOT to make a sequel. This game was so inferior to the original Deus Ex I could write a book listing all of it's shortcomings)

Knights of the Old Republic II(They forgot to complete the game)

Blaze and Blade(I doubt anyone has ever heard of this one but good God was it crap.)

The Legacy of Goku series for the Game Boy Advance were also all very abysmal.

I would also agree with Gothic 4, that game was trash.  I bought it thinking it was going to be a decent western RPG but man was I disapointed.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance felt like a betrayal to the fans of the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

They didn't forget, the publisher just wouldn't let them, and considering the amount of unused content that is actually on the disc but had to be cut due to the Early release is more or less proof of this.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is also another victim of a publisher forcing an early release.

I'll certainly agree with this one. It was pretty fun at the beginning, but it became pretty tedious rather quickly. I know some people love it, but it just wasn't my kind of RPG.

Older games: Divine Divinity, Fable-Lost Chapters, Fallout Tactics, Dungeon Siege, FF7, NWN1 (except for HotU).

Newer games: ME2, Fallout3, Oblivion, Some of the dlc for DragonAge, (I hated the Golems one!)

I wouldn't call it "terrible", but I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.

Maybe I just had too  high expectations after my friend kept telling me what a good game he thought it was, or maybe it was the voice acting or combat or something else that annoyed me, but I just never enjoyed it. Thus, I never finnished it.

The Witcher is like enjoying foreign/indie films. For some, it's too big a leap to take. And as for the voice acting, the Polish vo's are excellent. The English, not so good.

The voice acting (in the English version, that is) early in the game almost put me off completely: I can't say exactly why, but for some reason it really grated.  Fortunately it improved once the game proper started, but getting past that rather melodramatic starting point was a bit of a test of endurance all of its own.

Not only are the English vo's bad, there's much lost in translation. I quit my first game about 3 hrs in so that I could switch to Polish. I absolutely love the Polish vo for Geralt, and most of the vo's for the female characters as well. White Rayla, for example, is a ruthless badass mercenary, and the voice for her fits perfectly.

But then there's the matter of combat in The Witcher, which is sub-par. I can understand why people don't like the game, but its sure grown on me.

I got bored of JRPGs after the PSX era, though I still liked FF10-2's fighting system even though the story was a barfest at some points. I'm sticking to Atlus when it comes to JRPGs now and remakes or ports of old games I used to play when I was younger. Could say I don't really hate all of the JRPGs in the latest era. What I hate the most about them though are these effing bubbly girls with no personality, squeaking like they're always having orgasms. Japan is just a big man with his hands on his ****, masturbating on every weird fetishes that comes in its mind. That country isn't going anywhere and trying too much to do sexual innuendos everywhere. Even poor Vanille from FF13 suffered from the syndrom: I'm a sexual tension victim. That game has a pretty fun gameplay to me, too much plotholes, still enjoyed it and wouldn't mind a sequel. So... My current JRPGs on my avoid list are FF spinoffs, pretty much everything coming from the NISA company OR with dumbed down female characters.

Since I'm still a newbie in the WRPGs department, I can only say that I hated DA:Awakening because it felt rushed an unpolished compared to its predecessor. Also the DLCs that weren't add-ins in Dragon Age. I loved Fallout 3, but disliked Fallout: New Vegas (a real clone, duh...). I couldn't get that far in Oblivion too, but I may give it another try. EA's RPG The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age was also painful to play, even though it mimicked FF10's style of gameplay, which I liked first. Still haven't played KOTORs but interested into 'em. Not interested into MMOs, though. People keep asking me to go on WOW, I repeat them that I'd rather play solo.

Off topic though: Since I like both genres of console rpgs, I can't say we should put all of the JRPGs on the same boat. Some of them are pretty well developped if you take your time to find them. As are as they are, the Shin Megami Tensei series are interesting. My favourite series are the Tales, though it seems there won't be any new localization here for a while. I love action-rpgs and adventure games like Zelda or Okami, but Kingdom Hearts was way too awful in my opinion. I prefered the direct sequel on PS2 though, but the spin offs were too boring.

Right now, I'm trying new genres since JRPGs can offer me what I want and WRPGs are still away from my grasp (old wrpgs became rare after time). I've been interested into action games and shooters since Mass Effect. Lately I've been playing some Rockstar games, since they tend to have semi-rpg elements in 'em. Never felt this good, eh. Next games I'm planning to try are Devil May Cry series + Bayonetta.

P.S.: The more I think about it, the more I hate Japan's xenophobic behaviour and sexual fetishes... Grrr...

Hmmm there were some voices that I didn't really care about in The Witcher, but eh, for the most part I really didn't mind the English vo, and actually, I even quite liked Geralt's voice.

But then again, personally I find it impossible to like, or rather judge, voice overs in a language that I don't understand. It all just sounds like gibberish to me in Polish or Swahili or whatever.

Though with Drakensang: The River of Time there were a few times that I nearly wished I was playing the German version, as the English vo often tended to be really quite atrocious (and I do understand a few words of German at least).

As for the topic....I feel like I should mention Mass Effect 1. While I did not hate it, the setting it intoduces is way too interesting for that, the combination of the Mako and the average uncharted world left me with the urge to kill a plethora of innocent fluffy bunny rabbits. It's by *far* my least favourite Bioware game. Thank bob for Mass Effect 2.

Also, for some reasons... I really hate the remake of Final Fantasy 4 on DS. They effed up a classic with a bunch of ****, put some dream whip on that and it still tastes like ****. F... augment system. *shakes his fist*

Final Fantasy IV was the first JRPG I ever played(back when it was called Final Fantasy II on the SNES) and I've got to admit that playing the remake on the Nintendo DS made it feel really really dated.
Those giant heads looked stupid too.
I really think they should've updated the gameplay somewhat too.

Yeah, but that's like asking a nun to stop preaching the Good Lord's miracles. Square Enix seem too stubborn to change. FFXIII was a kick in the balls for the fans for many reasons, but still was a good change from all these turn-by-turn random battles. I will give a chance to Versus XIII, but I still think they should inspire themselves from WRPGs a bit more for the next installments. Then, maybe my faith for the main series will be restored.

DDO-Dungeons and Dragons Online....F

For one it was way to much like WoW, and the Dungeon master always seemd...gay..

ANother reason is everytime i tried to go play it again it had un-downloaded it self from my computer.

Fallout 3 and Oblivion---They were alright at the begging, but as you started to play more it just got boring.

Fallout 3---I couln't play it for more then a few hours then i got surpremly bored.

Oblivion---I played it for a few months---After a while i just didn't really understand what i needed to do.

World of Warcraft- Idk if this is a Rpg i think it is a MMORPG--same thing just multiple player right?? well it was to addiciting, and they were way to many missions they wanted you to do from the beggining.

Final Fantasy 9. I can't count the number of times I ran across something that is all 'oh, your party just killed me but wait, I'm going to be an **** and cast this spell before I die, which will probably kill one guy at full HP, so you can waste a phoenix down and heal spells on him before your next fight.' FF8 did this to a lesser degree with those useless bat things from the dungeons with ifrit and the minotaur brothers - if they leveled up far enough, they started casting death every time you killed one of them.

Fable 1 if you tried to play a melee-focused character: no matter what - even if you hit guys in the back - they could block perfectly without turning around at any point and counter with a combo you had no chance of breaking without a damage shield on.

Fable 3 for having an okay build-up to the revolution (the part where you and Sir Walter first encounter the Darkness was really quite decent, I enjoyed it) and then being a complete disappointment when you did take the throne. I only saw the main groups you recruit even participating in the actual revolution (which itself wasn't all that great). It didn't help that combat on the whole was made way too simple, either.

Alpha Protocol for having a rare modern setting and then ruining it with probably the most imprecise aiming reticule ever. Not for where the shots themselves are going, but for the reticule's movement, where your aim would swing past the target and you'd be correcting constantly left and right, up and down. It felt like trying to aim a gun by pulling on a rope tied to the barrel. Pity, because I found the plot interesting, but I couldn't suffer the awful shooting mechanics. The enemies were pretty inconsistent with their AI as well.
