I am probably going to get flamed, but I really did not like Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas. Fallout 3 I spent a lot of time trying to like it, but from an aesthetic pov, it was dreadfully ugly. Fallout New Vegas, last time I attempted it, was buggy and the same ugly world... not that I was expecting much difference. I can see there merits, and I know there are Oblivion haters, but modded Oblivion was an awesome experence for me personally.

I'm no fan of Fallout (not that i hate the game, just never played it), but considering that fallout is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic world, it would be quite odd if it was pretty and had beautiful scenery.  Ugly, desolate, and barren fits.

Why on Earth would you hate such a beautifully crafted game? Anyway, it's more of a Turn Based Strategy than it is an RPG - The RPG mechanics are pretty minor.

I suppose I just couldn't get into the art direction. It felt a bit too cartoonish.

same applies to the JRPGs I've tried

faves are New Vegas, Oblivion, DAO, ME2, The Witcher, FO3

You keep saying JRPG with King's Bounty. This worries me.

I'll admit it's quite cartoony, more so than King's Bounty (Which didn't let you have a pet dragon), but I think it suits the series, the gameplay and the tone well. Disliking the art direction is hardly akin to hating the game, though. If you want something darker with similar gameplay then the Disciples series should be right up your street.

Yea, thats why I have very little interest in playing it.  I am not a huge fan of open world games.  They have to wow me with the setting, scenery and lore to get me interested and make the game fun.  I am simply not interested in a 1950's post-apocalyptic world - just sounds really drab and boring to me.

I'm surprised how much I warmed to it.  I found the whole idea a complete turn-off until someone talked me into it, and I quickly got drawn in.  I think with FO3 I felt that the dead, drab landscape contrasted rather well with the humanity of a lot of the NPCs which is probably one of the reasons it worked for me personally.

That said, there's only so long I could cope with the wall-to-wall greyish brown: echoes of Morrowind's blight-infested region there, and I used the same solution for both, which was user-made mods that engreenified the whole place.  Who cares if it's not strictly lore-correct, I wanted something to lift my spirits!

From recent ones: Fable, Oblivion, Morrowind . From older ones, quest for glory V (total disgrace to an awesome series), Daggerfall.

I've tried three different FF games, and threw them all away within hours.

Oblivion was boring.

Gothic III was a disgrace, and Risen even more so.

NWN as a single-player game was poor beyond comprehension.

Tbh, i'm split love/hate on Dragon age, on the love there's the characters, great voice acting and the world in general. On the hate, im getting sick of cliche rpgs (with swords, magic ect) and the combat just bores me.

final fantasy XIII. I've never been a fan of JRPG's, but I thought I would give this one a chance, and apart from the pretty cut-scenes, there was nothing here I liked.

Star ocean: Till the end of time. What the heck was this crap? this is one of the dumbest games I have played. I liked the second one but then it turns out that the whole game is taking place inside of a game and then they escape into the real world and it's a game that everyone is aware of. This is one of the dumbest stories I have ever seen in a game. I hated this

Fable 3 - Bought it, beat it and returned it in 1 day. Short, mind numbingly watered down, and what the hell was that ending? UGH.

Final Fantasy X - Way too linear even for a JRPG and the story and battle system were rather uninteresting. Music also wasn't as good as the predecessors. TBH, the game is extremely overrated.

....and any after. TBH I was also sick of the *constant* cutscenes. I felt like I was watching a movie more than playing a game. My own personal gripe was the personality of the two main leads.

Chrono Cross - completely bastardized the plot and storyline from the first game

Demons Souls - NO story at all...

That's what was so great about it.  It let your imagination run wild.   Easily one of the best, most refreshing rpgs in a long, long time.  Absolutely brilliant multiplayer.

I loathe all jrpgs.  The Fable games are all hype and very little substance.  ME2, while being an awesome game, is hardly an rpg.  MMO rpgs seem like the biggest scam ever and that's saying a lot with all the crookedness in the video game industry.  The Gothic games are kind of fun but severly overrated.  Risen had a great first two chapters then all downhill from there....I couldn't even finish it.  Dragon Age:  Awakening was such a letdown.  I've played through DA:O multiple times but once was enough with Awakening.  The bugs...oh the horror.

I kinda miss my old school rpgs where my characters would stick to their damn roles. Like you would have one healer, one mage, one tank, one thief and etc. Now, everytime they pull out a rpg in Japan, it's always fully customizable and you end up with clones instead of unique characters. I can say that I have more fun with Wrpgs these days, like Dragon Age: Origins or whatever.

Eh? *Looks into Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series* I don't see such things, at least not easily. Have to spend hours fusing and defusing ya demons for good enough results  . But yeah, I am assuming the clone thing is a jab at Final Fantasy 13, huh? And Dragon Age Origins is not excluded. *Has a party of three arcane warriors in and a warrior in Awakening.* <_<

Dragon Age - While the world-setting was interesting, that was about the only thing going for this over-hyped game. What with the lame engine, a complete lack of interaction with the environment, snore-inducing combat, a pointless statistics system, zero challenge, a linear and predictable "storyline" (Collect-4-Pieces-of-the-McGuffin-to-unlock-Final-Boss) and characters so gimmicky they could've come out of a professional wrestling promotion... I could barely bring myself to finishing it once then never touching it again.

Mass Effect 1 - Same flaws as with Dragon Age, only in a sci-fi setting, except that I couldn't bear to play this to the finish at all.

Summoner hated this game! I hate the chain combat thing, I ended up mashing my way through it. The story was alright but the camera sucks especially if you're in a city. Some of the graphics are pretty decent for the time but then there are some that look terrible that the first level in the small town it's so ugly!

Evergrace terrible graphics never finished this one, I don't remember exactly what I didn't like about it, it's been so long I just remember getting it for really cheap playing it and hating it.

Tsugunai Atonement: This game sucked you play a knight that gets killed and starts possessing people like in Quantum Leap and trying to change lives. This game was pretty bad to never completely finished this one either. The combat though is pretty good and straight forward standard RPG stuff

Shadow Hearts 3: Way worse than the second one, the 2nd game was alright but after the first game this comedy elements started taking over the series. By Shadow Hearts 3 it was a cartoony lighthearted affair. The first game was awesome but each game was a step down. I finished this one I forced myself through it for some reason.

Suikoden V: This game sounded like it would be awesome! I loved the story and played through most of it but the strategic battles started to wear thin and became increasingly annoying. I got fed up and quit the game

Star ocean: Till the end of time. What the heck was this crap? this is one of the dumbest games I have played. I really, really, strongly disliked NWN 2's story and characters.  The gameplay was all right in my book (although the lack of polish dragged it down a few notches), but I'm into that sort of thing.

I wouldn't say I hated the game, but I found the story to be incredibly dull, every single one of the important characters and party members obnoxious to the extreme, and the writing and acting to range from tolerable to atrocious.  This was a particular disappointment for me, as I consider KOTOR 2's story and characters to be superior to the original's in some respects (though regrettably unfinished).

I also really hate the stories and characters in Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia.  I'm not a big JRPG guy, but there are a handful that I love, and I'm willing to set aside my and the genre's differences now and then and give one a try.  Based on these two, though, I don't think I can ever play another Tales game.  They basically sum up everything I hate most about JRPG storytelling.  I actually find the gameplay and battles kind of fun, if mindless, but by the end of both games I was desperately hoping for every one of the characters to die, and the damn thing to just end unceremoniously.

Divinity 2, I actually found it painfull to play this game. I was going to put down the likes of Oblivion and Fallout 3 but I dont really hate them though they are shockingly bad. Thats when I realised the only RPG off the top of my head I hated was divinity 2. Weak story, characters, soundtrack, graphics, gameplay. You name an aspect and it was done badly in that game.
