I find NG+ to have a significant impact on paragon/renegade checks. The following for me are almost always greyed out, Zaeed's loyalty for paragons if you saved workers, Thane's loyalty interrogation for renegade (I'm a spectre). Jack/Miranda paragon, Tali/Legion renegade. Tali's loyalty (paragon/renegade ranting at admirality board to find her innocent), Tela Vasir (paragon and renegade) and resisting Morinth (paragon and renegade). If any of those are important to you, as far as I can tell, you'll have to roleplay either Ghandi or Genghis Khan to pass them.

I use the retrain powers research to get the class ability with +100% paragon/renegade, (I have eezo to burn) for the missions with the high checks. I also leave Jack, Samara and Legion's missions for last since they have the highest paragon requirement. I think Jack/Miranda needs a 80% paragon total, while Samara and Tali/Legion need 100%. There aren't any other crucial paragon/renegade checks I can think of. ..

Sorry but that isn't exactly true. Probably is if you leave them till last, but if you do Miranda and Jack's loyalty missions right after Horizon you only need 50% maybe even less. Aeetos from these forums made a video to highlight it too

As for the Samara/Morinth one, well am not sure exactly how accurate the wiki page is for the ME2 morality guide and its been a while since I played the game, but if the wiki is right, the only paragon points you get is from the decision to kill Morinth. I don't think you get any extra for using the paragon lines during the conversation with her, that is purely just so you can get the choice between her and Samara.

Generally if I am wanting to resolve the Miranda/Jack fight, I do the same thing Aeetos did in this video. I make sure I got 50% either Ren or Para, by Horizon (or at least by end of Miranda's loyalty mission) then do Jack's, get the scene, para or ren them.

Also earlier in the year Kim Stolz one of the Bioware Devs explained how the whole paragon/renegade thing is done in ME2 here is a linky to a post in which Kim and Pacifien explain the whole persuasuion thing.

...here is the problem. It's compounding. If you do a mission, and you don't get the opportunity to choose a blue or red option, you miss out on potential paragon/renegade. If you miss out on paragon/renegade, and a ton of it at that in some situations, you are now behind with no way of making it up. It compounds then until you are so far behind, you need to play the game over again where you fell behind and figure out where you need to get that extra to make it passed that point you fell behind.

THis is where I am having issues with. I have chosen all the paragon choices possible, have done several side tasks and missions, and I somehow got behind somewhere, when it seems impossible, considering I NEVER missed a paragon reply to this point.

I feel for ya, OP, especially since I had similar problems.  Even though the game mechanics on this remain a little mysterious to me, I think I found how to manage it to avoid the problems.  Here's how:

1. Morality Guide - please check this out if you haven't, it gives you the sources of Paragon/Renegade points broken down by mission and is the single best resource: http://masseffect.wi...(Mass_Effect_2) .  I found there's quite a few hidden points in different conversation paths (e.g. there are some Renegade points branching from Paragon conversation paths).

2. Passive class Skill - every class lets you choose a variation when maxing the passive skill, one which adds 100% to the Paragon/Renegade score, the other only 70%.  I found to make all those persuasion checks, I generally choose the upgrade that comes with the 100% increase.  In my case, that was only an issue with the Soldier class, as there I prefer the Commando with only a 70% increase.  But as mentioned above, if you have spare Element Zero (which you will after your 1st playthrough), you can always Retrain Powers to get that bonus when you know you're coming across a tough persuasion.

3. Normandy Conversations - you can get incremental Paragon/Renegade points from the conversations with Squad Members.  My problem was that I skipped these after my 1st playthrough and left those points foregone.

4. Mission Order - The persuasion checks are a "moving target" as mentioned above.  As you level, they need more and more Paragon/Renegade points.  The most obviously affected are Zaeed's Loyalty Mission (best to do it early) and Samara's Loyalty Mission (this is the big one, as I think you noted).  Nowadays, I deliberately recruit her as soon as I get to Illium, which unlocks her Loyalty Mission earlier.  That's important as it seems at a lower difficulty level, the persuasion check to overcome Morinth's seduction was a lot easier, which is very important as it allows me to choose whether to kill Morinth or Samara, which unlocks a lot of Paragon/Renegade points (I noticed I don't get many points if I fail that check and just let Samara rescue me).

5. Importing from ME1 - transferring a character gives a lot of Paragon/Morality points.  Some generous genius hosts a mass effect saves website.  It's not really modding, you're just downloading a legitimate save transfer from someone else.

Having said all that, the Paragon/Renegade point system still surprises me from time to time.  Example - I imported a character from ME1, then focused on Renegade dialogue options to max that out.  However, when I got to the argument between Legion & Tali after doing Legion's Loyalty Mission near the endgame, I found was given the Paragon option, simply because I had kept some Paragon points from that transfer.  That was just weird.

Anyway, I found the above helpful, hope this helps you.
