I bought Mass Effect 2 at midnight the day it came out, and played it twice through on Vista with no issues. However, recently my Vista crashed and burned so I upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit (I already had Vista 64-bit and everybody told me just to stick with that for 7). The first time I tried to run it the lag (on the videos first and then the gameplay) was so bad I couldn't play at all. I checked my drivers and everything was fine, but I reinstalled them anyway. After that the performance of the game was slightly better than it had been before, but not by much. I reinstalled the game. I can now play it, but it is still quite jumpy and is rather irksome due to the fact that it worked on Vista, and not on the better 7. Any suggestions for making it work?

there is a way to improve amounts of fps if your system doesant disable aero autimatically when you run a game

simply go to the game installation folder (in this case ME2 installation folder)

mass effect 2>binaries> rightclick masseffect2.exe and click on properties then compability section placed in upper tab. You will see system compability mode, dont touch it. Click on Disable Desktop Composition and OK, this way you will manually enable auto-aero disabling for ME2 which will result in additional FPS.

While this operation improves your overall game performance, your computer is too weak to run ME2 with max graphic settings.

Recommended CPU is Intel Core 2 Duo 2,8GHz or better. If you want, you can overclock your CPU, make sure you buy decent CPU cooler to achieve 2,8GHz or higher. The same goes for your graphic card except overclocking. Unless you're playing on a notebook (which is laptop to me;p), then I wouldnt advise overclocking. I'm more than sure of this operation with Disabling Desktop Composition should help you with few additional FPS. Try it out.

I should note that this person is using a laptop and overclocking a laptop is not advised as they do not have adequate cooling. For gods sake do not overclock anything or it'll dramatically shorten the lifespan of your laptop XD.

Some people do read the word "overclock" and don;'t see the warnings then go off on a tangent/. I felt they needed an extra warning just to be sure ;)
