Hello, my problem in short is that as soon as I launch NWN2 Platinum from steam, my desktop enters fullscreen mode for the game and it immediately locks the game up without ability to exit. My system specs are as follows:

Game Version: NWN2 Platinum via Steam
Game Language: English
Retail or Digital: Digital Steam Download
Processor Manufacturer: Intel
Processor Type: "Core 2" Quad Core
Processor Speed: 2.66 GhZ
Operating System / Service Pack: Windows 7 home 64 bit
System RAM: 4 gigs
Video Card Manufacturer: nVidia
Video Card Model: GeForce 9800 GTX
Video Card RAM: 512 megs
Video Card Driver Version: 8.17.12.5896
Sound Card Manufacturer: Microsoft
Sound Card Model: n/a (integrated)
Sound Card Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
CD/ROM Type: n/a
DVD Type: DVDRW - but n/a as is not used for this game
Hard Drive Type: SATA
Free Disk Space: 90Gigs
Power Supply:  650w

Description:
Ive downloaded the game via Steam's recent $9.99 deal for N2N2: Platinum, and have gone through Steam's "first time playing" autoconfigure routine (configuring .NET, DirectX, etc). Immediately upon Steam loading the NWN2 application, the fullscreen engages and the mouse cursor changes to "processing" (that blue whirly thing when win7 is 'thinking'). It never leaves this state.

The computer is not effectively locked up - after 10 mins my screen saver engages, as admin login pops up. I could shut the machine down from here, or log the user out, which would end the program. This is the only option as while the fullscreened game is up, Alt+Tab and Ctrl+Alt+Del do not respond. So basically, every time i launch the game, the screen locks up fullscreened to black and I have to shut the machine down to resume its use.

I cant tell whats going on as the game is locking up as soon as it loads. I have most recently updated video drivers, operating system, etc, and I have a very nice machine setup otherwise.

Please help! Thanks.

Mods can close this or keep around for reference: I solved the problem.

When loading the game from steam, the application *still* tries to look for a CD in the drive. It detected some other disk (in this case it was Rome: Total War), and got stuck in some loop of confirming which disk was in the drive.

In any event, removing the CD from the drive immediately solved the problem. For steam users, its likely best to play the game with no disks in your CD/DVD drive.
