I defeated him at level 18/19 with Allistair, Sten, Morrigan, and my arcane warrior. I had the arcane warrior attack when he was in caster form with Sten and Allistair while morrigan sat back and cast spells. Between the two group heals I have and the two heal spells I had the health covered.

When he switched forms I kept Sten back and he used a crossbow. My AW would then retreat and pummel him with spells and heal. I found the lightning bolt to do a ton of damage. I wanted to hit him with more lighting spells but didn't want morrigan to get to close.

The first party I had was Lelianna, Morrigan, AW, and Alistair but I found him to attack Lelianna to much and I couldn't keep her healed vs the damage he did to her, so I swapped her out for Sten. He misses but when he connected the damage was high. None of the other spells seemed to work that great but the lightning was very effective.

*Oh ya, I used firebolts, fire bombs, and shock bombs as well.

I did not find him anywhere as hard as I was hoping. Faced him on hard difficulty with Alistair, my PC [2H warrior], Leliana and Wynne.

I do love that he's more tactical and casts a ton of spells but I daresay I ripped him down faster then the last of the Black Vial revenants.

CoC sucks if he gets it off on your whole line so I basically kept my 2H behind him, Wynne and Lel spaced apart and Alistair just held his focus. Didn't use mana clash or forcefields - just healed through it and went to town on him. Love the 2H warrior build - so much massive burst hits w/o getting knocked around xD

I even reloaded the save when he didn't drop Fade Wall and beat him again to get it and Keening. Still - not meaning to downplay his role. Very pleased there was a crazy Kangaxx tribute, I just was really expecting something much more nasty :3

The problem for a mage heavy group is, that he has really high spell resists. On the other hand i just might have had a streak of bad luck. At lvl 17 he resisted every(!) mana clash and coc. 1 level later no resists at all...

I beat him on the first try on normal at level 18. I didn't get a shield, just the Keening blade and some mage gauntlets that give 5% element damage to all types. Wynne cast Mana Clash on him for like 880 spirit damage. I don't know why it took so much. That barely dented him. Then I just hacked on him and healed as needed. Took about 10 minutes. Is the shield a random thing cause I saved it after I beat him?

I found him incredibly easy. Party with Sten, PC warrior, Oghren and Wynne. Smash smash smash with weapons "Ageless" for Oghren, His Blade for Sten and that sword that was found in pieces in the deep roads for PC. Smash smash and dead.

Mmm, I think I missed somethings in this fight. It didn't take 45 minutes, I didn't even notice any nasty special abilities (no life drain/ cone of cold) and I took him out on the first go.

Had Allistair tank, Leilanna melee dps rogue it, Morrigan as heal, myself high power mage (which is less usefull in small spaces, a horde of darkspawn on a bridge though....).

Used cone of cold rotating between Morrigan and myself. Dumped all defense and resistance lowering abilities on him (mark of death, crippeling shot, affliction hex) and got him down in about 7 minutes I think.

I found him easy for that late in game...

I was expecting soem sort of evil mastermind but he just keep swpping between arcane horror and revenatnt (on hard btw) so all i did was have me and alsitair (both sword and shiled maxed out trees and both with maxed out beserker and templar) and lelian using her char specific bow and ranged tree maxed out and wynne with arcane warrior and spirit healer maxed out...

before the fight activate one of the bard songs (i used the first one stam/mana regen) also activate shield wall for chars (it helped) and activate combat magic for wynne (so she is in the fade thingy....final passive upgrade for arcane warrior) and then just sppammed skills and attacks, ali had topsiders blade wiht +5 cold +5 fire +5lightnig i had starfang GM paralasis rune +10Darkspwn damage and wynne had DLC wintersbreath (was saving up for magister lord staff) and i beat him 3 times (reloaded a few times) because i was looking for the fade shield but in the end i just killed him and gave up looking for the shield.

the trick to any mage is get close with your warriors and bash him them to bits

its sooo easy in DA:O, because the mages use hardly any protection spells!

did this battle on my first attempt on hard by simply just having my tank and sten bash him, while morrigan healed (Lilly was shooting arrows, but they weren't doen much)

when he went all Reverant on my ass, i just CoC him

easy :)

I swear all physical attacks against him do only 1 hp damage. (Confirmation?)

Which is why I reloaded and switched out Lilienna for Shale who does elemental damage with any crystal equipped. On normal it took around 5-10 minutes and a ton of potions, mostly Wynne downing Lyrium like crazy to keep up the heals.

I am so upset that I didn't know he could drop both the shield and sword. I only got the sword. Then I saved cause it was a tough battle. No Fade Wall for me :(

Templars a great in this fight for their mana draining ability. I generally make all my warriors Templars just for that reason.

Just beat him at level 20. Didn't find him very difficult actually. The one hitch was around halfway through the combat he focused on Wynne, chased her down, and took her out. So I had to slog through the rest of the combat spamming health potions. He's damn easy to hit IMHO, it's just that he hits for a lot of damage himself.

I managed to tank him in the far corner of the house, around the wall partition, and that gave enough distance that the rest of my party wasn't in range of his life drain.

I finded Gaxkang easier than the High Dragon.

I admit that I was only level 14/15 when I killed the High Dragon while I was level 20 when I killed Gaxkang.

Basically, as every other single boss in the game, you have to bombard him with hexes and/or glyphs.

You can one-shot him with the spell "Mana Clash".

"Witness Gaxkang!"

*dies 0.5 seconds later*

But in all seriousness; the key is to stack Spell Resistance(Dweomer Runes are great for this) for this fight. Only his Arcane Horror-shape is truly dangerous, the Revenant shape isn't any more dangerous than any other Revenant. It only has more Health.

Alistair with full Templar talents and Spell Resistance gear should be able to tank him, while your other DPS engage him from behind as to not get hit with stuff like Cone of Cold and get the flanking bonus.

First off, if Gaxkang seems difficult, well, he's supposed to be! This is /highly/ optional content, and thus a good place to sneak in an extremely tough fight; after I beat Gaxkang, my character record changed "Most Powerful Enemy Killed" from High Dragon to Gaxkang. Don't let his non-enormous size trick you.

That's funny, I HAD Gaxkang as my hardest foe, until I fought the High Dragon, and then it changed to High Dragon. They must be competing for hardest foe...

Yeah Mana Clash did 883 purple spirit damage. I guess he had that much mana. Crazy that barely dented him. It was like 1/4 of his energy bar.

Used morrigan to mana clash him after vulnerability hex with 30% bonus to spirit damage from gear. Hit him for 1555 on nightmare. Still had a quarter of his life left but he went down fast. 20 second fight. mana clash ftw.

Ermm I found him to be very easy. Easier than Flemith, and the High Dragon. I have had tougher fights than this one.
