Ok, what I should have said here is that the writers took on some universal subject matter, but were kinda lazy but making it so easilly correspond to modern day. A writer's job is one of creativity, not to transcribe events as we know them with different cultures and races...I just think it's lazy writing.

............or maybe your just over thinking this way to much its a simple videogame yet your overwhelming need to appear intelligent forced you to connect dots that have nothing to do with each other.

Actually I thought the dwarves were more like Americans for their politics, their accent, the style the town crier dwarves deliver news, and something you learn about golems during the storyline. But even that is far-fetched and would be much more inconspicuous without the accent. The humans in Ferelden seem to be much closer to medieval Europeans than to the US. The entire political structure of Ferelden resembles medieval and renaissance Europe, and Orlais would fit in well with the renaissance too since it seems to be your regular renaissance France "intrigue at the royal court is all that ever happens" depiction you get in Fantasy stories. The way the humans treat elves is much more consistent with the way peasants were treated in the middle ages than with anything the US did. If you play the city elf start you get to experience pretty much what stories taking place in the middle ages would make life as a peasant look like, including the famous ius primae noctis - which wasn't a real law in the real world either.

There may be social commentary in this game, but not everything is about the US just because you live there. I think this game is actually relatively weak on social commentary. If you want to play an RPG with plenty of social commentary, play any of the Fallout RPGs and compare.

Ouch!  That is quite old.  I do like the feel though.  The feel is spot on.

It was my mistake for posting this here. Unless you know of the part I'm talking about it's kinda pointless either way. What I had a problem with is way too specific for this forum. Sorry about that

More likely than not most people that have responded know what you're talking about.  They simply don't agree with your analysis and think you're reading too much into it.

Having played through the entire game (and I mean the entire game) I'd say that you could also conclude that the Draelish are Jewish/Modern Israel/theoretically collapsed Israel.

Don't freakin assume that because they're forest dwellers who worship multiple gods that it's some sort of commentary on the US and how it treats people... that's fairly narrow minded.  (And since when did American become synonymous with United States resident?  I thought there were a few more nations in North and South America than just the US... maybe I'm wrong...)

Slavery was not only about color. There was slavery before the slave trade from Africa.
Jewish, Asian, Poor it was all over in the Ancient world. The weaker became slaves, Conquered Clans, Peoples, Religions, Tribes all became slaves in some cultures. And it still goes on today, Solmalia, Afghanistan, Asia, Hookers, Gangs. Its just hidden better.

I love the fact you summed up hookers and gangs in the same list as Somalia and Afghanistan. :')

Meh, slavery is slavery whethere you do it on a mass scale and cry abut it in the media or put a 'edgy' face on it and try to pass it off as a life choice.

Have a new term for us from the U.S.?  Last I heard Canadians are happy with that, and Mexicans are happy being called Mexicans.  My German friends call me an Ami, and I am an American.  What's your point other than a geography lesson?

If a part of the world was named Kwonne, i would surely approve of DA: Origins story. :)

Great storytelling and dialogue with good use of characters to build up the story and plot. :)

Ah, Zevhran! Hmm... does he look kinda spanish? I didn't notice, but now that I think... all day thinking about partying and having sex resembles much our attitude towards life. It's just... we're not as small as elves.

Anyway... *shakes fist* "Damn Bioware! Why is Zevhran a ripoff of every spanish character ever made??" :D

No no, Leliana is the french one, Zevhran is just... weird. Btw, I'm still curious about what inspired Mr. Gaider to think about Ferelden... if Orlais is France (names and culture resembles a lot to renacentist France), and Nevarra is kind-of inspired in Spain... (we even have a province called Navarra) What inspired Ferelden? Germany, could be? :/
