Oh and WALL-E was actually found in a capsule. Apparently it was a message sent from the future.

America is what 500 years old...if you go all the way back to it's discovery?
How many thousands of years old is slavery and subjugation?
Umm the United States was made a country in 1776, by my math thats less then 250 years, 233 to be exact. I'm curious as to where you got the 500 from.
Psst! Don't point that out to him. It's obvious why he thinks America is 500 years old. He's from the Future.:innocent: Let us just sit here and soak in any tidbits of knowledge that he may drop due to a slip of the mind. I've heard that time traveling does that to you.
In regards to the topic, did anyone else enjoy the real-life social parallels of the Mages in which super-powered beings are locked away from the general populace and threatened with death at the slightest mis-step? No more stones and persecution for you, would-be sorcerors and witches! In DA's Circle of the Magi, you actually have power! So when someone throws a stone at you, you can throw a fireball at them in kind. Watch out for the templar though. Those Holy Smites can smart.

Feudal England, most likely, although germany is aso possible.
Semi-isiolationist feudal society with a long standing emnity towards thier closest neighbours (in both caes, the french).
Most Feredans speak with an English accent.

*laughs* 9:21 am here! I should be sleeping yet being as lazy as I am. About lazy writers... I think they got inspired by many things. After all, when I went for the Urn of the Sacred Ashes, at the end I was humming Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade tunes... It's not about what they used to write their story, is about how they make it fit to create an amazing background for DA

Oh nothing. I should sleep. I will say one thing though. When you're on the internet and you have an opinion, it's best to go to sleep.

The situation of the Humans and City Elves could also be compared to na-zi Germany and the Jews, you know, right before they started the mass slaughtering. Although, the Humans aren't as clearly united as na-zi Germany was, and the City Elves are more united then the Jews were in the situation.
The Wood Elves can easily be compared to the French-African force, fighting in honor of France despite it already conquered. Although, the elves had their city completely destroyed and the time extent is far greater.
And the Mages can be compared to Nuclear Scientists. They were working on the most dangerous of all things and they had to do exactly as they were told. If they ever try to leave or just stop working altogether, they were at great risk to being locked up or killed, in fear of them going to the other side. Pretty similar to the Mages working with demonic magic, and they can never leave for the fear of them becoming demons, or in other words, "going to the other side."

Injustice and oppresion are realities, and they happen in Ferelden as well as in the real world. It doesn't mean that specific cases of injustice and/or oppression in Ferelden are in any way meant to draw parallels of specific cases of injustice/oppression in the real world - and really anyone who attempts to do so is drawing a very long bow. It's simply the writers attempting - and succeeding - in making the world credible. On the other hand, it would have been very sad if Ferelden had been sanitised and turned into some bland black&white good vs evil world.
The Empire in Star Wars was soooooooo a parralel to the Third Reich

It's the early fantasy worlds that´s refering to WW2 and WW1. And thous early fantasy worlds are the inspiration used in creating the new worlds (such as DA:O and LOTR, Even WOW).

Feudal England, hell they even included the anti-French attitude with Loghain and the occupation parallels the Norman conquest in some ways.

Scotland, not England. They all have Scottish names; Duncan, Alistair, Loghain and the ones mentioned in the Codex too, Cormac etc.
