good call, yes! I am infact on crack, but don't let that distract you from the matters at hand

when i say they look like indians i don't mean "red"  but more like swarthy, if you know what i mean, i think we all can agree on that most americans are swarthy

Obviously you are unaware of what "swarthy" means. Basically it means dark skinned - in terms of complexion.

If you are referring to "tanned" (which by no means is the majority of the US tanned) that is not the same as swarthy. Most people refer to people of the middle east as swarthy.

Just to clarify, I am an American living in the UK, I have just as much a mixture of genetics as a lot of other americans, including Native American, Irish, English, Spanish, French, Scottish, and Hungaraian, but I am by no stretch of the imagination swarthy.

you're saying it like you think swarthy is a bad thing, be proud of yourself instead...

Eh?

Is being swarthy a bad thing? No
Am I swarthy? No
Are there many Americans that are swarthy? Yes
Are the majority of Americans swarthy? No

And I am proud of myself... I'm just whiter than whitebread...

Why do I suspect this is a troll...

America is what 500 years old...if you go all the way back to it's discovery?

How many thousands of years old is slavery and subjugation?

Umm the United States was made a country in 1776, by my math thats less then 250 years, 233 to be exact.  I'm curious as to where you got the 500 from.

Psst! Don't point that out to him. It's obvious why he thinks America is 500 years old. He's from the Future.:innocent: Let us just sit here and soak in any tidbits of knowledge that he may drop due to a slip of the mind. I've heard that time traveling does that to you.^_^

In regards to the topic, did anyone else enjoy the real-life social parallels of the Mages in which super-powered beings are locked away from the general populace and threatened with death at the slightest mis-step? No more stones and persecution for you, would-be sorcerors and witches!  In DA's Circle of the Magi, you actually have power! So when someone throws a stone at you, you can throw a fireball at them in kind. Watch out for the templar though. Those Holy Smites can smart.:pinched:

NEWS OF THE HOUR:  "another product of the education system doesn't know the difference between discovery and founding...EPIC FAIL"

Leif Erikson actually discovered America 1000 years ago,  does that make the US a thousand year old reich?

It wasn't called America then!

I know it's been many pages since the OP's post, but I'd just have to comment that I don't think the elves are necessarily a symbol for those oppressed by the United States specifically. Oppression, exploitation and slavery of one manner or another are present in all interhuman relations to one extent or another. . . so, unless you feel a lot of guilt (which is an utterly useless emotion imho) and are American, I can't see how you would connect that to the US any more strongly than any other oppression of one group by another in human history.

It isn't called America now!

The United States (of America) is the only country in the world (I think?) without a "real" name. Yeah, I know the "of America" part is in the constitution but it isn't on our placard at the UN. So there. ;)

Also, Siberian nomads and/or Polynesian explorers and/or Atlanteans discovered the Americas way before Leif and his band of refugees.

This is monumentally stupid, but entertaining. By the way, anyone else think the Dwarves are a Samurai-Indian Hybrid?

Depends on how you look at it really. The name America comes from Amerigo Vespucci writing his name across the land mass when he was making his maps :) No one ever bothered to write down what anyone else ever called it, so they don't count!

That's why it's called America now, so in a way, that's its name. Only in a way though.

I was jesting when I said "It wasn't called America". So hard to carry through text :P

Another fun fact. The U.S. doesn't have an official language either!

So, let's see... we've got enslavement, migration to the promised land, being the target of a crusade, and racial discrimination. If this game parallels anywhere, it's the Middle East.

If you play the city elf start you get to experience pretty much what stories taking place in the middle ages would make life as a peasant look like, including the famous ius primae noctis - which wasn't a real law in the real world either.

Except there is no primae noctis in the game. There's just a human noble kidnapping and raping women.

The astounding lack of historical knowledge by adults of the Americas, Middle East, Africa, and Asia before the Renaissance and Age of Discovery is depressing. Too many falsehoods taught in grade school survive to become pseudo-facts.

Why don't you put away that gaudy flag and open up a history book, you arrogant little ******.

Slightly harsh, but I have to admit after reading the post rather deserved....
Bloke is so far up his own about  all this; "I am a writer" malarkey reminds me of Little Britain's "I am A Lady"
I like people speaking their mind but for f*rnic*ti*n's sake have a point rather than "too specific for this forum",

DA:O = USA vs World is much like
"Frodo, is an allegory to Jesus" (Ringbearer=Crossbearer)
or
The Silmarillion being in "many ways the Nibelunge Ring"
In the words of Tolkien
"Both rings were round, and there the resemblance ceases."
Let me paraphrase
"both worlds contain slavery and social/racial discrimination there the resemblance ceases"
(apart from the developer bloke walking into the Video Game shop dressed in DA Armour that is)

I found elements of the British and Roman  Empire
Native Americans the hands of the Spaniards and later the Pioneers (marginalisation, indian camps)
The Jewish Ghettos just before WWII (Alienage).
But drawing on history only makes this game touch us deeper
this can be debated left and right without a conclusion ever being reached, and on the downside we'll all be pretty blue in the face..... It's a fantasy game in a fantasy world where one species/empire has risen in military strength and done what any power would do, expand its territory, the conquered are of course be a little upset, but drawing direct parallels to the USA or Great Britain, or Spain etc is sad.
It's a story, treat it as such and enjoy it, for what it is....
So far I've not been irked by anything in the game though I admit
certain situations have brought tears to my eyes, in that, this game is
a gem, for me it even surpases BGII (my very first PC game).
Damn good story, damn good game

BTW I'm, British/Greek/Spanish, over 25 and *NOT a writer* (DJ /Producer in fact), but I do like a good tale and know it when i see it; I really appreciate a well set up tale with lots of depth and background, thats what we have here.

Allright to sum this thread up; atlanteans discovered what is now called America. Most americans are swarthy due intermingling with indians. The elves in dragon age are based upon the jews.

Let's leave it at that.

Ok if i got this right  you feel that all humans in a game represent Americans and any persecuted race represents some race that Americans persecuted?

Funny  I thought the Humans in the city elf story represent the Nobility during the Middle Ages and the elves were the peasants

Seriously, why would you just single out America when the various themes and motifs of the story are virtually universal...very odd.

In my own not so humble opinion, Dragon Age: Origins is a symbol for CONAN. In my mind, this game embodies all the face melting pwnage that IS CONAN. idk, that's just how I feel about it...

I made some social commentary in the toilet today.

It was all about politics and whatnot.

As for slavery and oppression, it's been around for quite a while and it certainly didn't start with the US.  It's safe to say that the majority of major civilizations had a system of slavery and did their fair share of oppression in their day.
