that was made obvious when you called someone who is indian a hindu

? Was that supposed to be a compliment?

No. Indian people aren't flat-out Hindu people. Two different things.. Hindu people are people who follow Hinduism. Soem people from countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia etc. are Hindu. Not all Indians are Hindus.

Oh. My mistake then. But I always thought calling people from India Hindu was more respectful? And it lessens the confusion of the word Indian being mistaken to mean Native American.

No, the problem is calling Native Americans "Indians." Calling Indians "Indians" is politcally correct.

WHY would you start a thread like this

Its just going to drawn in political correctness people and thats never fun.

The game is diverse enough without you needing to incite the lack of diversity...

Hell captain anderson is mass effects version of Alyx vance. Half asian half african

Well, I always prefer calling them Native Americans anyway. Or more specifically by their tribal name, like the Sioux, Cheyenne, Apache, Iroquois, Delaware, Lakota and others.

While we're on the subject, does anyone think Ashley Williams has some Native American ancestry? Her features were very unusual to say the least.

I never complained about the lack of diversity, I just said I'd like to see more in the next game since we are heading to the Human race's home planet.

No, it is not more respectful. I grew up with a lot of people from India: Some of them were Muslim, and I wouldn't question their "Indianness." There are many other religions in India besides the two major ones (Hindu, Muslim), and some of them you may have heard of (Christians, Jews). If this is news to you, may I suggest you go with "South Asian," unless, as alluded to earlier, you want to exclude Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nepalese and so on?<_<

As far as the original post is concerned, I'm confused about why it exists? The ME games are exceptionally diverse, and I like how the characterizations of the different aliens are subversive compared to the one trick pony they would normally be in other works. As the one poster asked, what else are you looking for?

Regarding Ashley, to me she appeared to be an AWG (average white girl, if that's not racist to say). I've been assuming Lara Flynn Boyle was the model for her face. <hanar on>Genuine curiosity: What features made her stand out as Native American to you?</hanar off>

I'm Canadian and I've never heard that. It's usually First Nations People or Aboriginals.

You got your races wrong, that would be Elcor.

On topic I always thought Ashley Williams was Latino. Eh who cares I think that ME has a great reflection of diversity and unless we're going to like South Africa and its population is entirely white people I see no reason to claim that Earth should show a lot of divesity. Even with our pretty tolerant modern world different ethnic groups/nationalities tend to group together so I wouldn't be expecting London to be the melding pot of diversity.

Wow. Did I just kill your dog or something? I already admitted to my error, so give it a rest with the geography and social lesson. I'm quite aware of Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh thank you very much. Do us all a favor and chill the hell out.

The guy who wrote her seemed to suggest she was Latina or Hispanic.

I'm pretty sure Kaidan is Canadian. I seem to remember a conversation you can have with him where he talks about his parents still living there.

I wasn't mad at you. I was just amazed at your ignorance; I never met anyone who didn't know those details before. Seriously, South Asians are ubiquitous where I live. It's as if you had said all East Asians look alike to you. Again, not mad, just amazed, do us a favor and look at a map some time. :D

I'm from the Philippines by the way. You wanna look at the map and see where that is?

I know where it is, and more to the point, I also would never have claimed that calling all Asians "Chinese" is respectful, as if there were no such thing as Filipinos or Koreans or Indians or Pakistanis. I know better, and again, I was truly shocked that someone else wouldn't. Seriously, what are your intentions with this thread? You complain that you want more diversity, yet you don't realize that you shouldn't lump groups of people together in a fashion that results in exclusivity (the Indians as Hindu remark completely denies the existence of other Indians). Do you understand now why someone would be surprised by what you wrote?

I'm pretty sure he already admitted his mistake, Elana. Now you're being slightly condescending. We should probably drop that line of argument altogether now.

Back on topic, I vaguely remember Kaidan saying something about Canada as well. I also know his mother was in Singapore when she was exposed to eezo.

And let's not forget there are a ton of humans that can't even claim Earth as their home planet. Some were born and raised in colonies so the issue of "what country are they from?" isn't really valid.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a stickler for political correctness, but it'd be nice to see more ethnically diverse humans in ME3, since we are going to Earth. To date in the first two games we've had:

Hindu
Samesh Batia

Japanese
Maeko Matsuo
Kasumi Goto
Keiji Okuda

English
Zaeed Massani
Dr. Gavin Archer
David Archer
Dr. Chakwas

Scottish
Kenneth Donnelly

Australian
Miranda Lawson

French
Lieutenant Girard
Dr. Chloe Michel

South African
Donovan Hock

Hispanic
Vido Santiago

Chinese
Emily Wong
Ethan Jeong

You forgot:

Ambassador Udina - Spaniard

TIM - Martin Sheen's real surname is Estevez.

Jacob - black dude.

Anderson - unintelligible mix of blood (read somewhere he was 1/4 Maori!)

Gianna Parasini - Italian.

the Russian scientist at Peak 15.

Major Kyle - definitely wasn't a white.

Also, Zaeed's looks and accent ware definitely British, but his name sounds Arabic, which implies that maybe he was adopted by an Arabic family in England or something.

If you add in the books: more Asian guys (Kai Leng and Jiro Toshiva).

You can make your Shepard to be of any blood (only grown up in English speaking community in North America for the lack of accent).

So yeah, it's enough diversity.

It's people like you who make me wish I was racist. As a melding pot of diversity myself (I'm Irish, German, and Italian on my Father's side and Japanese and Korean on my Mother's side) I honestly have no problem with someone assuming that a person with a last name, that originated in South China, is Chinese.

Also at OP, making a thread about ethnic diversity is just asking for trouble.

they actually explain this in the game, my friend. with the way the world is going now, the gene pool is mixing a lot. 175 years from now, races arent going to be nearly as distinctive as they are now. Hell, what race was anderson or udina suppsed to be? Also, people with naturally blond hair and blue eyes are rare by the year 2185, (its supposed to be anyways) and natural redheads are all but extinct. there wont be nearly as much diversity as you would think, because it isnt there anymore

My Shepard grew up on Mindoir.  What does that make him?  Posted Image
