Posted ImagePosted ImageYou don't HAVE to take the upgrades, we don't know if the upgrades will increase radius at all or on which spells (though I think it likely), and doesn't Nightmare difficult imply difficulty?

But it's also the only way to get friendly fire, which some of us demand regardless of difficulty.

I never play on Nightmare, because I don't see any point in higher difficulty just for the sake of it being more difficult, but if it's the only way to get friendly fire (and dammit, that friendly fire had better affect my enemies as well) then that's what I'll do.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI would prefer to have friendly fire on lower difficulties as well, but, you know...snowflakes....  Anyway, i was just trying to point out the silver lining.

That's marketing's job.

My job is to point out the cloud.

I'm assuming this is a cone spell with upgraded range.

And I'm aware you don't have to upgrade, but as I said before, I'd like to use the benefits of all tiers to a spell. A mage should be able to tone down the power of a spell from an upgrade in order to reduce the risk of harming allies.

I'm almost positive it's Cone of Cold; if you look at the second ice icon (hope it's not the last lol) it shows a cone of blue color topped with a snowflake.

I just hope there's more than one Cone spell - that way you can upgrade one but keep the other narrower spell for when you need a more precise tool.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI'm hoping for a cone-shaped spell called Tremor in the Earth element that sends a shockwave through the earth (again, in a cone shape) that deals low damage, and knocks down those in its path, with a chance to stun based on rank.  I really want more cool earth spells.

For myself I am looking forward to seeing all the Entropy and Spirit schools. Specifically Sleep and Debilitation for Entropy and Death and Telekenisis for Spirit. As well as Mana Drain. Besides for some healing spells those spells I tended to always take.

Posted ImagePosted ImageIf that video is accurate, the bottom left web is Spirit, and telekinetic spells are now in the Arcane school.  WIth comparing the gameplay video and the images of the spirit web, I think the spells in that tree are going to be Spirit Bolt, Death Syphon, Dispel Magic, and Walking Bomb.  That's just my interpretation, but it all fits.

Posted ImagePosted ImageMike Laidlaw said somehwere on here that there was nothing better at the start of a fight than Rock Armor, and that it's quite a bit cooler than coloring you grey nowadays.

Posted ImagePosted ImageFireball and Firestorm are awesome, but I certainly hope there's at least one more fire spell.  I loved flame blast in origins, but I suspect they're conserving their cones for Cone of Cold.  Perhaps Flame Weapons?  One thing I don't expect to see, but would love is some kind of fiery barrier that raises a wall of flame that damages those who pass through it.

as for summoning i really want blood mages to be able to summon demons.

My fireball + rage demons = one hell of a time for my foes!

A really nasty blood magic ability that be interesting to see. I dunno if it entirely fits with canon but one sort of like Walking Bomb. Where if you activate the spell on someone and kill them, they don't die but become possessed by a demon.

Thanks for the answer. :) Hard to say how I feel about that answer without context. It depends on if an upgrade is just an upgrade or a radical alteration of a spell's effects. Ah, worst case we can simply skip those upgrades I suppose.

All upgrades mentioned thus far add effects, I've seen none that detract them.

I think we can assume that the base-spell won't do less damage.

I could see not wanting to use a radius upgrade in certain circumstances when playing with friendly fire on.

hmmm there is something caladrius does thats pretty sweet. he yells out blood sacrifice and sucks health out of an ally and detonates them. probably better to apply it to a foe instead of an ally though. lol.

oh and i hope if blood wound does make a comeback that the enemies writhe about in agony. thatd make a neat animation and make u feel all maleficar like.

I am pulling for no cone of cold spell in DA2. ;) I would prefer if cones were under the purview of fire magic. Whenever I think of DA's cone of cold, I inevitably draw comparisons with the "Dungeon & Dragons" spell of the same name. Other than the obvious freezing of enemies, I would love an ice spell that launches razor sharp spikes. Another idea is an aura that boosts ice damage while lowering fire damage within its area. Neither of those are original, but the D&D parallel with cone of cold makes it feel a little bland.

As far as blood magic is concerned, I will be happy if mind affecting stuff became a bigger part of the specialization. More mind control and less blood boiling would be great. :)

What about Fireball? That might just be the most overused spell in the history of video games.

Fireball is harder to pin down. It is so generic and ubiquitous in games and fiction that I do not associate it with any singular license.

You seem to forget ''magic missile''. :)
But indeed, a fireball is far more iconic.
