The only "lightly armored" tank types Ive ever seen were Monks/Bruisers in EQII and Wardens (pun not intended lol) in LotrO. The heaviest armor a Warden can wear is Medium (In LotrO that means Leather types).

I actually don't want to play a tank. I want to play an effective DPS-warrior who wears light armor without dropping dead every other minute. Thanks for the reply, though.

Guess I'll just have to stack up on aggro-lowering gear, like in DAO...

This sounds like it would actually be a member of the rogue class,  not a warrior actually.

I feel ya lol...I brought up a Berserker in EQII and wondered the entire time why in the hell I was able to wear plate mail as a Berserker.  IMO, the highest tier armor a Berserker should be able to wear is leather and also IMO the only Warriors that should be able to DW effectively (Again, thats only my opinion).  Would be cool if in DA2, or any other DA game for that matter, when you take the Berserker class on as a specialty (assuming you can of course) it restricts you no higher than leather armor but as a trade off gives you the ability to DW.

It'll never happen because it would make way too many people unhappy but I'd enjoy it none the less

Hopefully that property will actually work in DA2, then.

As I wrote in the first post... no. Just no. Not the same thing. Rogues have less HP, can't wield two-handers, and get different skill and ability sets. I'm not looking to play a ninja, I'm looking to play something akin to a doppelsöldner. Most infantry soldiers didn't wear heavy plate armors.

Neither did Berserkers historically speaking Posted Image

Hehe! Exactly... might have had something to do with plate armors not having been invented yet, but... Posted Image

Too true.  Although as crazy as those bastards were I doubt they'd have opted for it were it actually invented at the time Posted Image

Probably not, judging by what I've read about the Varangian Guard.
I'm not sure whether I should be proud or ashamed by the fact that I'm descended from those wackos.

Granted, no two handers, but do the other things matter? You don't know what abilities warriors have, so I'm not sure why you'd be attached to them.

Again, leaving aside the two handed issue, if it was called "fighter", would that be ok?

No, I don't, but I know what the Warrior and Rogue ability trees contained in DAO and the Warrior tree was much closer to what I wanted.

Look, I have nothing against playing a rogue, but I want to - and will - play a lightly armored warrior.
For RP reasons more than anything else. Especially since NPCs will, on occasion, react to what class you're playing (or at least they did in DAO).

I'm not complaining. I was simply asking if there would be any benefits to wearing light armor.
... or drawbacks to wearing heavy armor (like abilities costing more Stamina or slower run speed, or whatever).

I'm just trying to understand, as it's a fairly common sentiment.

I forgot one of the most important reasons: the specializations.

The tank concept did not work that well in DAO aggro was really weird the designated tank (Alistair) could not hold aggro at all all of the abilities that were to help him manage threat were pretty useless only boss that ever really needed to be tanked was the harvester on nightmare setting.

I found alistair was always able to deal enough damage as well as being a moving fortress the problem for me mostly was him not being able to hold threat.

No.  My canon character was a tank and it worked spectaularly.

the designated tank (Alistair) . . .

I found alistair was always able . . .

Ah.  You are basing the tank concept on Alistair.  I agree he was terrible at his job until later in the game.  When I played a rogue/mage Alistair got shelved for an all damage party until much later when he could do his job.

I would agree with the thought that Alistair was a lousy tank.  At least until later.  But the "tank concept" and mechanics worked just fine, especially with the main character as tank.

Threaten, Taunt, and massive armor are really all you need. If you're still having problems, make Alistair a Reaver and get Frightening Presence.

Doesn't really make a difference the entire game is doable without a tank excluding fighting harvester.

I was able to tank most of the game on nightmare as a battlemage/arcane warrior and was able to control threat easier using cleansing aura then a sword and board spec character.

Oooooohhh.   OK.

If that's how you felt then why did you argue that the tanking mechanic was broke in the first place?

(walks away shaking head . . . again)
