So DA2 is a few months away, and I love everything I've heard and most of what I've seen, with the exception of DA2's female characters. They appear to have been designed by an artist who loves to put all the features in a small circle in the upper middle of the face, leaving the character with an enormous chin and the appearance of an exceptionally wide jaw.

Frankly, if Aveline's concept art doesn't remind you a little of Samurai Jack, then you need to take another look.

The first thing I'll be doing after I've run through the game is getting to grips with the toolset for the express purpose of fixing these faces (well, I say fixing... they're not *broken*, but they're all  turning out like this). Red hair, green eyes and fuller, prettier features for Aveline is a given, but what about Isabela? I was thinking of a proper overhaul, keeping her skin tone the same but altering everything else. Suggestions and feedback would be excellent.

I'll do a few sketches today and add them to the thread.

Why does Aveline have to be made "prettier"? Meh.

I don't really mean pageant beautiful, I just mean.. less like Samurai Jack. The likeness is pretty uncanny.

So, all girls should look the way you wan them to be to not need fixing? I would hate to be a woman living in your household...

If only the world of women came equipped with a full set of tools for quick and easy face lifting.

John: "Oh, hey there Jane!"

Lady1: "I'm not Jane. I'm Jill!"

Lady2: "Hey, Jon. I'm Jane!"

We would all look exactly alike.

I don't mind isabela really, but given the exotic nature something similar to Catherine Zeta Jones, Penelope Cruz would do I think

Then why not redesign her to look less like Samurai Jack (which I don't see) and retain her stronger features instead of wanting to make her look fuller and prettier? Not that I think a redesign is necessary in the first place, but you are free to do as you wish.

She already looks like Selma Hayek to me. I think she's fine.

Besides, all the in-game screenshots of these ladies aren't even finessed yet. We've seen the cake without the presentation. I'm a little tired of hearing people complain about how ugly they are, when the design team hasn't even finished the darn game.

Catherine Zeta Jones was what I was thinking, because the face shape isn't too far away. Obviously, not going for an exact celebrity likeness- the point here isn't even to increase attractiveness per se, but to use more of the face and avoid this enormo-chin deal.

I did say I didn't see a problem with her lol, but he did ask for suggestions also. I do think the mouth is a tad small as it looks now though

Hey look.. another thread where someone is complaining about the graphics and models again. Very original. I sure hope we get some new screenshots soon so everyone can stop griping about everything, not that that would appease everyone. Some people just aren't going to like the way some characters look. Sucks for them.

I think the screenshots of Aveline and Isabela were from an early stage. Just look at Varric and Fenris how detailed their skin is and how the colours are not *in your face*, Aveline's orange hair is bam! In your face.

So i guess they look better now.

I love how people take a harmless statement and try to turn it into something it's not, especially when they don't understand what "exotic" actually means.

exotic means - foriegn, not of this country, from abroad (does that not describe Isabela?)

I've got no problem with the art direction of DA2 in any way save for this very specific one, and I've done no griping prior to today. It's not even griping. I'm not telling Bioware "you need to change it or QQ I'm not buying it", I'm saying that I've spotted something I'm not all that happy with and provided we get the tools, I'll sort it out myself.

@ankuu

Maybe that's true.. If it is, then I probably won't touch anything, but assuming it's not and what we see is near final, I'd like to have reached some conclusions about changes prior to launch.

I like Aveline just fine.

Love the direction of Isabela but hated the mannequin-look of her model. Maybe the final version will fix that. If it doesn't well, hope you get it right proper. I'd prefer the same features and all, just make her look real and human.

This is something I could never relate to. I prefer taking characters as they come; imperfections and all. Changing them to fit one's ideal vision of beauty always felt strange. It is why I never bother with the redesigned mod for Origins. Making NPCs prettier is nice and all, but I see no reason for everyone to look like a runway model. It is not only unrealistic, but also boring.

That Aveline does not fit a typically modern conception of beauty is great in my eyes. How often do we see female characters like her as opposed to the wannabe starlet? Isabela complaints make even less sense. She looks fine in gameplay screenshots and has a stereotypically huge chest and bottom going already.

Also, much as I am 100% supportive of toolset, no toolset at release.

This is my feeling s exactly, I've tested the redisigned mod, but it didn't feel right for me afterwards, and I'm all for breaking the traditioanl sterotypes (Even thugh I'ladmit i dont mind some eyecandy, I love what we have seen from Aveline so far).

I'm afraid I'm not very good at whole models. =(

@Seagloom

I really wouldn't erase the masculine elements to that extent- speaking of Aveline here. I'd have her features use up more of her face, in order to reduce the *apparent* width of her jaw and length of her chin (without physically changing those things at all).

All the female characters are in the same boat. They've all been drawn with their features close together in the upper middle of the face. I'm not sure that really qualifies as "uniqueness".

Are you basing this on concept art, screenshots? No disrespect, I just don't really see it, myself.

And you would be entitled to. I mean, it is your game to do with as you wish. All I was trying to say is I personally disagree with the mindset aesthetic imperfections are a bad thing. Correct me if I am wrong, but your goal seems to be tweaking their faces to make them more pleasing to your eyes. I could understand disliking the artistic direction of a game, but that does not seem to be your issue or you would criticize Fenris, Varric, and Carver as well.

Again, however, it is your game to do as you will. I just wanted to express my thoughts.
