Looks yummy. Such goodies should become more commonplace, preferably with more reasonable prices.Sigil_Beguiler123 wrote...
For myself I would like to see it done up like the Uncharted 2 art book is. That is a awesome art book (especially for a video game). Though somewhat expensive. http://www.ballistic...oks/uncharted2/

if you put it like that i have to agree with the original poster. Aveline should be re-designed to Eric Cartman dressed up like a woman with the original voicecaster.
that would make my day

It's only role reversal if you assume there are roles to begin with ;D
I bet in Man!Shepard's mind there were pre-defined roles that dis not involve Jack wearing plastic appendages

That's generally not referred to as "role reversal" but okay.
Also my manshep is totally into that.

This is something I could never relate to. I prefer taking characters as they come; imperfections and all. Changing them to fit one's ideal vision of beauty always felt strange. It is why I never bother with the redesigned mod for Origins. Making NPCs prettier is nice and all, but I see no reason for everyone to look like a runway model. It is not only unrealistic, but also boring.
That Aveline does not fit a typically modern conception of beauty is great in my eyes. How often do we see female characters like her as opposed to the wannabe starlet? Isabela complaints make even less sense. She looks fine in gameplay screenshots and has a stereotypically huge chest and bottom going already.

Gotcha. Though methinks what Shep gets up to in private doesn't make him any more or less manly anywhere else.
Now how to segue from this topic...

This actually does appear to be the case -- that is, the characters seem to share similar factial proportions across the board. Both women and men. It was discussed in more detail in the earlier threads, when the pictures of Isabela and other characters appeared for the first time. Whether these shared traits are considered a flaw, a quirk or non-issue may come down to individual preferences.Seagloom wrote...
If it was truly a question of artistic style, would not similar flaws crop up with other characters? At a minimum, should we not see the same criticism extended to Bethany, Cassandra, Flemeth, and Momma Hawke?
It's also quite natural the critique is aimed more at characters which are potential love interests than the ones who aren't likely to be such, i think.

It has absolutely nothing to do with making them look beautiful or like models. I like my characters to look unique and fit their personality. One companion with a big chin perhaps adds character to their appearance. However, that's not the case when every character (other than Fenris) has a ginormous chine and a puffy, dough-boy face. Unless they are related, there is no reason for everyone to have huge chins and the obscenely square jawline of a comic book hero.
I have redesigned most of the characters in DAO - not to make them all beautiful, but to make them more realistic and fitting to their personality and/or lore. For example, Loghain is supposed to have icy blue eyes per the books; so, I gave them to him. He is a seasoned fighter; so, I added some facial scarring which seems likely that he would have given his experience, time on the front lines and age. I also completely re-vamped all the elves based on descriptions in the books because, as shipped with the game, they merely looked like short humans.

This is absolutely the case. Any criticism I have is about character structure/proprtions and textures in general.tmp7704 wrote...

Contrary to popular belief, shields and longswords are pretty heavy to be running around with for extended periods of time, not to mention bashing and stabbing people with them.

For me a female bodybuilder looks the same as male bodybuilder. No more or less atrocious. And yeah warriors do not have telekinesis they use muscles.

Aveline looks fine to me, but I don't find Isabela's face attractive in the least. Her face just seems a bit bloated IMO. I hope that Bioware fixes that. Having an ugly face only lowers her already low appeal for me.
The word "fix" implies that something is "wrong."
Aveline is not being catered to anybody's tastes but those of the devs. How much Aveline "appeals" to you aesthetically is not their concern.

If the design process for ME2 can be any indication, how much a character appeals to the potential audience can be actually quite a bit of concern. Especially for supposed LI.Schneidend wrote...

Well said and I agree. Discovering and experiencing this person is another aspect of the game and instead of trying to modify them. But for all the opposing viewpoints, I guess that's why plastic surgeons do so well. But it does render down to 'image' and 'perception,' and that's a moving target dependent on a lot of factors.
Maybe it's one of the side affects of playing RPGs. Before the modern RPG, you either built these characters in your mind or if you were an artist or author you created them. Now there's an easier access of being able to 'build' or create characters through the medium of an RPG game. So it's far easier for more people to project their inner wishes of characters and desires to a CGI model - a virtual what if, a virtual Barbie Doll or G.I. Joe. Combine that with an immersive storyline and it maybe another way of discovering or experiencing ourselves or stepping outside of ourselves. And a partial explanation of the popularity of all these shooters, sports games and RPGs.
Just look at all the variations of the 'Rosie the Riveter' character... how they were defined and redefined, including one 'Norma Jean, covergirl' working in a munitions factory in 1944...
