I have a lot of insight into the way even very educated people with large vocabularies speak, since I normally hang out with, yes, very educated people with large vocabularies. Yeah, I'd say it's a little beyond your vocabulary. "Allocate" isn't really the best word to use there, it suggests sorting things and is a bit awkward in that context.
