When I added my module to a campaign (to allow levels above 20), the player journals stopped working.  I figured out how to get it working again, but in that scenario the player XP is limited to 253000.  Does anyone have BOTH working on a PW?

I did that when I converted, and as mentioned above they do work sometimes. It seems the journal and allowing XP above 253000 are mutually exclusive.
