Sarcastic male mage.

Seriously - this is a game that lets you have VO and sarcasm. That's groundbreaking for me. I don't really care about what the alignment is so long as I can do it with a lot of backtalk.

I find the "Qunari" gender "biases" interesting (after 365 votes) despite the even split between male and female characters:

Male Warrior - 86 - Female Warrior  - 39

Male Rogue - 36 - Female Rogue - 63
Male Mage - 61 - Female Mage - 80

Females are most likely to be mages and least likely to be warriors, while males are most likely to be warriors and least likely to be rogues.

Kind of reminds me of Santana's song "She's a black magic woman".

I wonder if male players tended to vote differently than female players?

They probably do, but trying to sort that out would just be a PITA!  The differences between classes for male and female characters is interesting but not an outcome I'm surprised by.    I'm sure there is a whole host of reason for that from simple preference, social influences, sibling survival desires etc.  I kinda wanted to play a mage my first time through but the fact that the "wrong" sibling will die were I to play a mage but the kibosh on that idea.  Plus we are still dealing with a pretty small sample size.

It would not be a PITA, it would just take another poll with 2 * 2 * 3 = 12 choices.  Of course, a partially redundant new poll would be lucky to get a rather paltry 50 vote sample size.

I'm leaning towards diplomatic/neutral male warrior.  I like to try to not ****** people off the first go 'round so that I can truly enjoy sticking it to the people I grew to hate on my second one!

I wonder to what extent the sibling choice plays into this? You can only get Carver (male warrior) if you're a mage, while rogues and warriors get Bethany (female mage).

My first playthrough was going to be a female warrior, but when I heard about the death-by-class, I figured the apostate angle was important to the plot.

Would've played mage first, but now I'm on a fence on the Beth/Carver development, unless Beth turns out to be a major b****. (ha! lol)

Neutral good female rogue just like in DAO.
Then douchebag Male Warrior.
Then powerplay mage with mods, gender TBD.

Hedonistic Playboy, probably a mage but I'm not sure now with the Beth/Carver thing. Chaotic neutral on the outside, but generally a good guy at heart, who just has... challenges dealing with his problems, and is not afraid to engage in a little vigilante justice.

So kinda HawkeMan/Bruce Wayne

 chaotic good female rogue
rogue - because I like picking locks & stuff & I like doing it myself rather than have a companion do it for me, plus I like the guerrilla tactics a rogue represents to me.
female - I'm a girl so easier to play one until I get a feel for the game in total. usually my 2nd go to 2nd playthrough character is a male mage
chaotic good - i have a hard time playing evil characters. I take my hat off to those who can though

Evil male mage arcane warrior. If they did the evil choices well in this game... they didn't in DAO.

Light-side/Paragon/Good, because I have difficulty picking anything other than the option that has been highlighted as 'Good', even if I don't agree with it.

Male, because I'm a guy and playing as a female initially just feels wrong.

Warrior, because it feels like the 'canon' class in most cases. Unless the coercion/persuade skills are rogue-exclusive. In that case, I go where the charisma is.

Neutral female mage, but when the Chantry's involved she'll go evil. So probably often.

Female. Evil. Mage.

Killing hundreds of people in a video game because they look at you funny never gets old.

it's just too bad that you pretty much can't actually attack anyone unless they're already hostile to you

I'm going to have 2 "main" characters, who is different version of the same hawke.

The warrior hawke will be drawing from my good dalish rogue playthrough, and will be a good guy who desperately tries to protect his remaining family. Has an disturbing deep care for his sister and will do anything to see her safe. Blames himself for the loss of his little brother.

The mage hawke will draw from my ruthless and cynical mage playthrough and will be a dark and brooding character. Having his mind shattered due to his sister's death, he has lost all faith in humanity and would be glad at their destruction. Got a wierd devotion to the elven race and views their Arlathan era as the pinnacle of civilization. Despises the Qunari deeply due to their world view and would even temporary ally with the hated chantry to defeat them.

Female Warrior.

Would have picked rogue but they look laughable when fighting.

Male. Probably a Force/Blood Mage (as Arcane Warrior-esque as I can make him without the actual specialization). I usually play warriors on my first playthroughs, but I really want the Staff of Parthalan (I'm a sucker for glaives).

Alignment is a bit trickier... Composed and politely matter-of-fact (if possible), honorable (in a sense), and pragmatic. Lawful Neutral/Lawful Blue (Lawful in the sense that he lives by a moral code of his own making).

Male Hawk... something. I can't really decide yet, I'll have to play the early portion of the game to kind of get a feel for the different classes before deciding what I want to continue with. I tend to play Magic wielding classes in most games, but I also really liked Warriors and Rogues in DAO.

The alignment, I've got no idea. I tend to just go into the game and make my choices on the spot. Probably lean more toward good than evil.

I usually play a good female rogue, but thinking seriously of playing a mage--I'm sure the mage/chantry conflict will be at the center of the story, and I think it will be interesting to have the conflict be directly about me rather than my sister.
