Hi

I got a download of mass effect back in september or october. everything went just fine at first. was able to play through the game twice, had a few issues but nothing major. when i went to play a third time nothing will happen. it won't even start.

I un installed it and re installed still nothing. was getting a display error so updated video drivers, still nothing happens.

pc was in major need of reformat so did that and updated everything all drivers, now i can redownload the game and patches, install them, but it just sits there on a black screen, the bioware wont even load.

i dont get why i was able to download it after first purchasing it and play it, and now it suddenly wont even load

any suggestions on where or how to fix this i really want to play it. oh i do have mass effect 2 and it plays Great!

No help can be forthcoming if we know nothing about your system specs. Please dont say "they meet or exceed". The amount of help you get depends on the amount of information you provide.

Although there is no secret about collecting the specification information, and the OP / author may need it, attempting to double up is hijacking, which is impolite, and creating two accounts for the same person is a certain way to end up very unhappy.  I will send a PM to the first person, and if that's you, also, you'll get it that way.

If you are a hijacker, you will have to create your own personal message in which to discuss collecting the data.

Have you ever named your vendor?

I un installed it and re installed still nothing. was getting a display error so updated video drivers, still nothing happens.

Old, defective, and weak Geforces respond very, *VERY* poorly to the newer nVIDIA drivers.

Actually, once we got away from the various earlier 16-bit Windows "9X" varieties, the need to reinstall twice a year totally evaporated.

PCIe replaced AGP six and a half years ago:  http://www.pcreview....ad-1949076.php

It really should not be able to do so on such a bad and slow video graphics card.

Your graphics card is below the minimum in three ways.

1.  Memory bandwidth is only 6.4 compared to the official 32
2.  Texture Fill Rate is only 3600 compared to the official 5100
3.  Memory bus type is 64 bit, not 256

It cannot cool itself correctly because nVIDIA included a defective firmware version in it (in all of their initial 8n00 cards, but the later 8800 releases, at least, were updated in that regard).

Personally, my opinion of the 8400 GS is very poor, and I would as soon grind it into dust under my boot as look at it.

You can uninstall whatver current drivers from nVIDIA you are using, and return to the one you thought worked nicely before (I would differ with you about what that junk card will be able to do, even with the old version drivers).

Really, you ought to get something that actually was designed for game play such as this, for $60:

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814161315

I'll check to see if there are any for less than that. It was on a rebate sale for $55 for the longest time, but isn't quite the same bargain now (well, with free shipping I guess it's better now than it was).

The best I saw that still had the correct VRAM is this one, but after adding shipping, it's only $3 less, although the cooling solution is a superior one:

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx

Far too many of the AMD partners are substituting cheap DDR2 RAM.  None of the HD 4650s had the correct type any more.

I looked at those links those are for a PCI Express slot, I don't have Express I only have a PCI slot. To upgrade it I might as well buy a new computer :(

What I just don't get is why ME2 works Great but ME won't now, it did fine then just suddenly stopped, that just does not make any sense to just stop working

In order to *not" have PCIe, that computer would have to be at least six years old, which is WAY beyond the point of uselessness for game playing, that's correct.  The 8400 GS was never made for AGP, only the old (obsolete for 13 years or so) "plain" PCI, and various PCI Express slots.

Computers are obsolete long before they are worn out.  That's been a fact for 25-30 years now.  Hundreds of thousands, probably even into the millions, of computers newer than a terrible six and a half year old POS without a proper video bus have been sitting in Thrift Shops the past couple of years, priced at $75 - $150, complete with keyboard, display, and speakers. Get one.
