All this Jacob hate is starting to play itself out. It gets annoying seeing how everyone claims that the reason why Jacob is hated is because he "had a bad romance" or is a boring character however, 4-6 months before the release of ME2 Jacob was probably the most joked about ME2 squad character.

Yeah, it's hard to tell if you're supporting Jacob or decrying him.

I think people resent him because he's the most emotionally & psychologically stable individual in the Mass Effect universe... that makes him boring in the eyes of most :)

There is a difference between hating someone and simply finding them uninteresting. I don't believe Jacob is hated at all; he's just not appreciated enough because there's nothing too remarkable about him.

Well my point is that I find it weird how whenever you ask a person here why they dislike Jacob or why is Jacob always the butt of many if not most squadmate jokes and the common answer is "He is a dull character" or "He has a bad romance dialog" or something around those lines. However, nobody can answer the question as the why was Jacob the bottom of many if not most of the ME2 jokes BEFORE ME2 came out.

I remember literally a few months before ME2 came out and how people were quick to point out that they aren't romancing Jacob or some other crazy stuff.

Jacob is a boring character. Normal people are not this uninteresting to be around.

Remarkable as in he isn't an Alien? Remarkable as in he doesn't have some crazy Vigilante, Mercenary, or Assassin past?

Jacob Tyler out of the whole crew was the most supportive of Shepard since the very beginning of the game, literally.

However to stay on topic, if there isn't anything remarkable about Jacob, then I guess people knew this months before ME2 came out because even then he was literally not appreciated enough for reasons that are above my head.

Again, so how did people know that he was a boring character before ME2 came out?

I was around before ME2 was released and I don't remember any Jacob jokes.
As a matter of fact due to the entire lack of exposure from Bioware nobody even really talked about him.
He's just a dull character.

I don't hate him at all, but I do find his general attitude towards anything emotionally significant annoying. Yeah, his romance dialogue is ridiculous, but I didn't feel like anything more than a piece of meat when I tried it and that's the part I had a problem with. It just wasn't what I was looking for.

Him being human is inconsequential. Apparently his backstory and personality is what makes him so unappreciated. Also, his romance subplot seemed to add fuel to the fire. He's essentially the least liked character but is in no way hated.

Jacob Tyler out of the whole crew was the most supportive of Shepard since the very beginning of the game, literally..

I have to agree with this. I definitely noticed that and it's why I personally think Jacob is not as bad as people make him out to be. I still, however, don't find him interesting per se.

I avoided the forums before ME2 came out, so I can't speak to that, but Jacob doesn't seem to be very popular here.  And I can't say I'm surprised.  I like him as a character and as a combatant on my squad.  But when you consider ME2's target audience, Jacob has the odds stacked against him.

To start with, he is what I like to call the "male Miranda" in terms of being over-sexualized.  His outfit is just as sexualized as Miranda's, only in the masculine direction and not the feminine.

Jacob is a bro, as is Garrus. I dig them both because they support Shepard wholeheartedly. It's nice to have one guy who is actually stable on the crew.

I've always liked Jacob and have always said so. Garrus is the favorite squadmate, if I remember one of BioWare's recent statements about tracking gameplay, but he's never been a favorite of mine.

In short, this whole topic is based on a generalization.

I can't really say what people were saying/thinking before ME2 came out because:

1). I am not psychic.

2). I only discovered the Mass Effect universe several months after ME2 was released.

I disagree.  If Garrus were human, he would suffer the same "whiner" stigma as Kaidan.  The human male squadmates just can't win.  If they express themselves, they're "whiners."  If they don't, they're "boring."

Hey, I personally love Jacob simply because his character spawned one of my favorite ME memes.

I just don't like being forced into flirting with him. I want to be able to talk to him and build a friendship without my femshep talking all sexy to him. The whole situation makes me feel violated.

Well, I have to admit I can't speak for everyone. Sorry if it seemed as such. I'm sure you're right in your assessment here; a lot of people clearly do look at it that way, which is pretty funny.
