I guess I don't have a problem with that, especially considering how my favorite DAO character is Alistair, lmao. Some people deal with grief in different ways, I don't hold it against them or think they're whining.
As for Jacob, I do dislike the tone Shepard uses when she speaks with him (especially when your character has no interest in him), but his romance is actually really nice. Sure there are a lot of cheesy lines but he's not as awful as he's made out to be.

He wasn't my favorite character,
certainly, but it seems like there weren't many people who actually
paid attention to what he was saying, more of the fact that fem!shep was
using the creepy seduction voice (that she uses in all romances...)
without them wanting to. Sure, Jacob had some one-liners that really
made you want to cringe from the second-hand embarassment, but I thought
it was an interesting character flaw.
I mean, how bad could he
be? He didn't want to have a one-night stand. He at first pushed Shepard
away as opposed to flirting back. He was shy. He actually bothered to
ask Shepard how SHE was doing, as opposed to
just talking about himself... which was the one BIG problem in the
romance that, ironically, everyone ignored--he avoided talking about anything personal.

Yeah but combine the lean with the seductive tone of voice and it does have different meaning. Compare her approach to other characters. With Garrus, she's just standing there and says "have you got a minute?" With Grunt, she's standing normally and says "just checking in." The contrast with Jacob to others was just annoying because it felt like one more way the game was forcing you into a role with him, either bestest buddy (if you were lucky and stuck to completely neutral options) or full-on seductress.
That's not crazy. I had determined long before ME2 came out that my FemShep wouldn't be romancing anyone but Kaidan - and, thus, not Jacob (regardless of how interesting he might have turned out to be). I wonder if the in-your-faceness is because there will be a future story line with Cerberus where Jacob will play a role. I thought he was a little too out there with the "I don't trust Cerberus" stuff, like he and Miranda were playing good cop- bad cop prescribed roles. If I had had more of a free hand, I would have played it that Shepard was cool towards all the Cerberus ops.
