new game +

My question is simple: What exactly caries over into newgame+?
One guy told me that NONE of the upgrades carry over.
Another guy told me that your armor and weapon upgrades carry over but your ship upgrades don't.
On the forum I heard that no upgrades carry over but in Bioware's FAQ they said they do.
Q: So does that mean there is no New Game + in Mass Effect 2?[*]Nope. Once you complete Mass Effect 2, you can start a new game and import your ME2 Commander Shepard, much the way you did your ME1 character and play through again. Your level, weapons, armor, upgrades, currency, and codex entries will carry over.[/list]That's what the they said.
What's going on and can some answer my questions because I have a couple more.

As far as I'm aware, you get to keep all weapons and armour, but not the weapons/ship upgrades. You also get stripped of all paragon/renegade points.
So my "Shotgun Damage Level Five" upgrade will revert to "lol, you can't kill anything" in a newgame+?
I have scan the planets to re-upgrade them?
I don't like the direction this is going in...
I have more questions if you don't mind answering them.

Why would they lie like that in faq?

As for them lying, they lied about the 'epic community event' and the fact that the M-29 designation problem isn't a bug, they just couldn't be bothered doing it properly.
They did stuff up NG+ for ME2 though. It's not too bad for PC because you can modify the bonuses, but for console I'd suggest just importing a level 60 ME1 character instead.

I'm getting it for the ps3, I can't get the ME1 bonus.Captain_Obvious_au wrote...
Well you get a certain number of resources to re-upgrade, but they're not as much as you'd get if you imported an ME1 level 60 character.

They sure as **** lied about newgame+ in faq because they plain-as-day said that upgrades carried over.
Hell, someone else said that too.
Are bonuses enough to fully upgrade at least one set of armor and two weapons?
Do you get 50,000 in elements every time you NG+? This is a bunch of poppy ****.
Thanks for the help, bro.

It hasn't come out yet but it should have all of same Achievements(trophies) the PC version has.TS2Aggie wrote...
Hmmm, I'm not familiar with the PS3 version but does the PS3 version have the same Achievements and bonuses from them that the PC does?

Well, I assume that the PS3 will have the same Achievement awards as the PC does, so when you beat ME2, you'll get 50,000 units of each component when you start a new game, whether it's a NG+ or not.

Can you answer what I asked above?

You guys are telling me they don't carry over.
Bioware's faq is telling me they do.

You get it on any new game, period: ME1 import, ME2 import (even an import of an import), or just a plain new game.

They don't. Not the ship ones, and not the weapons/armor/Shep stuff you have to buy/find/get as a mission reward.
Bioware's faq is telling me they do.
The FAQ is wrong, and should be revised. I doubt many have even noticed. I never realized it said that until just now.

I haven't ever done a NG+ for ME2 on the PC so I don't even know if the weapon upgrades carry over there.

I was this close to buying Mass Effect 2, but after hearing that, I just can't buy it.
It is one of the stupidest, unnecessary things I've ever seen done in a video game for no reason what-so-ever.
I am disapoint.

The problem is that if Bioware tells you one thing for the PS3 version that is not true of the PC/Xbox versions, who's to know what is really true until the game itself is released?
The FAQ isn't PS3 specific. That answer is just for ME2 in general. And wrong...

It's the same as on the 360. So, no. All the upgrades go away.

At least I have DS2 to forward to seeing as I won't be getting ME2.
I know they haven't changed it for the ps3 release.
I wish they did but I know they didn't.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll check back once in while for any news about changing this.
If they change it, I'll buy. Not before then.
Hopefully this will be different in ME3

Ok, before I jump any conclusions... how exactly do upgrades work in ME2?
Two ways:
The ones you buy just take effect automatically.
The ones you find/get as a reward/get from squad members have to be researched and consume minerals.

tiered effect, 1-5 pt in a something for more of whatever it is (damage/damage protection/health) and i think 3/4 give other bonuses (specializations for that skill)

If I buy the upgrades from a store do I need minerals?
Do the ones I buy carry over?
Say for example I bought a flash light/damage upgrade for my rifle would I still have that on them when I NG+

And also from import/NG+ bonuses, and you can find some on missions.

No, those are automatically applied.
Do the ones I buy carry over?
No.

My advice, though, is that the research isn't that huge of a deal really. Doesn't take long to get your equipment up to snuff.

Weapons. Those all carry over. Shepard has to wait a little bit to get access to them all, but they are there waiting for you. However, other characters in the intro missions will have them equipped if that's what they were using when you beat the game.
The one-piece armor suits. Those carry over. If Shep is wearing one when you beat the game (or was in the post-game save you imported from), then when you first get the new armor (you always wear the old ME1 stuff in the very beginning no matter what), NG+ Shep will be wearing it too.
The various armor components. Those carry over. Again, if you're wearing any of them when you beat the game (or in whatever post-game save you used), you'll be wearing them in the beginning of a new game plus.
There are various upgrades for the ship and a few for specific squadmates. These don't carry over.
There are upgrades you either buy or find for weapons, armor, and Shepard (the damage increases, extra protection, etc.). These don't carry over.
Your level, unspent squad points, and current XP carry over.
Your money and minerals don't carry over. You get the achievement bonuses (200,000 creds and 50,000 of each mineral).
Any medi-gel over 3 doesn't carry over (because that extra medi-gel is from capacity upgrades, and upgrades don't carry over). Still, you do start with 3 medi-gel , which is 3 more than a standard new game gets.
Paragon/Renegade points don't carry over.
For some reason, fuel and probes do carry over....kind of. You normally get a fill-up of both as part of the bonuses, but if you bought the upgrades and have over 1000 fuel and over 30 probes in the save you used to import, you'll have that extra fuel and those extra probes when you get access to the Normandy, even though it can't carry that much yet.
I didn't check this bit specifically, but IIRC, the extra fuel just behaves normally and can all be used. The probes, however, are different (and I'm sure about this part): once you fire a probe, the game will get wise and set your probes down to thirty, so you essentially just get one free probe. At least it does that on the PC. Not sure if these same bugs exist on the 360 or if they behave the same way if they do.
